PSA: Salted Egg Indomie Is Finally Available In Singapore At All Fairprice Finest Outlets For Just $1 A Packet

Indomie is a physical manifestation of instant deliciousness. I’m pretty sure it has to be made with something terrible for your body because it’s like crack. One packet is never enough.

Indomie is not just any instant ramen, it’s a religious experience.

If you eat Indomie on a regular basis, then you’ll know that they launched a Salted Egg Flavour back in August. It went instantly viral and Singaporeans being Singaporeans, we went absolutely nuts because it was only available in Indonesia.

This Is Premium Indomie

Now, I’m sure half of us are sick and tired of anything Salted Egg but you can’t say no to Indomie.

On its packaging, the product is described as a ‘Curly Fried Noodle’. A gold foil label earnestly proclaims: “Mi keriting dengan rasa lebih mantap lengkap dengan bumbu pasta dan daun kari” (that’s Bahasa Indonesia for curly noodles with stronger flavour, complete with pasta spices and curry leaves).

After months of waiting (and crying), you can finally get your hands on these amazing noodles right here in our supermarkets!

Take note that they are only available at all Fairprice Finest outlets, and not in normal NTUC Fairprice or Fairprice Xtra outlets.

The only possible way to get your hands on the Salted Egg Indomie then was to ship it in, but even then, you had to buy it in sets of 10 packets. Now, you can get 1 packet for just $1 or 5 packets for $4.50!

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. If you’re looking for a speedy, fuss-free meal tonight, you know where to go.

Pro-tip: Always add a good sunny side up to your noodles.

[REVIEW] We Spent $5.90 On LiHo’s New Salted Egg Bubble Tea So You Don’t Have To

Will the salted egg yolk trend ever die out?

The short answer is: No, it won’t.

Just when we thought we’ve had enough of the Salted Egg trend, LiHo decided to surprise us with their latest creation during the CMYK Flea Market.

Introducing their latest bubble tea – Salted Egg Lava Brown Sugar Pearl Fresh Milk ($4.90/$5.90)

We have salted egg crab, salted egg potato chips and heck even salted egg lava cake. Do we REALLY need salted egg in our bubble tea as well?

So the team headed out on this fine sunny afternoon to see if this drink was worth a try.

Let It Flow, Let It Flow

If you were there at the CMYK Flea Market over the past weekend, you might’ve seen long snaking queues in front of LiHo for their latest Salted Egg Bubble Tea.

It was initially advertised as a one-time thing at the CMYK Flea Market. However, we’re guessing the response on the day changed their mind as the drink is now available in three of their outlets: Bugis+, Vivo City and Suntec City.

First Thoughts

Upon reaching their outlet at Bugis+, I noticed that there was a queue forming at LiHo at 3pm on a Thursday.

As I watched them prepare my drink, I was impressed by the generous amount of salted egg that they poured into the drink. And in that moment, I knew this drink was going to be a complete sugar overload.

When the lady behind the counter handed over my drink, I couldn’t help but notice the slight judgement in her face as though she was secretly telling me, “You’re going to regret this.”

Of course, she smiled at me wearily and told me to “Enjoy!” – whatever that means.

First Sip

Now I was expecting a velvety, smooth drink but I was wrong.

Oh boy, I was so wrong.

Firstly, it was completely tough to drink it because the salted egg was thick, the pearls were clumped together and I could barely taste the milk. Instead of it all mixing together nicely, I was tasting three different elements instead.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t terrible. The taste of the salted egg was great – reminds me of a freshly steamed liu sha bao. However the texture of the drink threw me off.

After getting the entire office to try this drink, no one liked it.

In fact, everyone was completely confused by the taste and texture. Some preferred if the drink was thicker and creamier whereas some just felt that Salted Egg and Bubble Tea should never be combined.

The drink was pretty jelak for us after 3 sips because it was just too sweet for our liking.

Honestly, if this drink came in a dessert form, we would’ve been all for it. Pour the salted egg sauce all over a pudding and we’ll gladly eat it.

If you were to ask us if we’d ever buy it again, sadly, it’s a no from us.

We love you salted egg, but perhaps you should just stay out of our bubble teas from now onwards.

KFC Brings The Salted Egg Trend Back With Their New GoldSpice Chicken

This July and August, KFC will be launching new items on its menus.

Inspired by Singaporeans’ love for salted egg, curry, chilli and fried chicken, KFC has come up with a limited time menu item specially to commemorate our national pride.

Starting from 4 July 2018, KFC will be launching their new KFC Goldspice Chicken.

Gold-Standard Salted Egg Fried Chicken

For those of you who haven’t gotten it by now, the KFC Goldspice Chicken is salted egg-flavoured spicy fried chicken.

Fresh chicken meat is marinated in the signature KFC Hot and Crispy marinade before being breaded and fried, and coated with salted egg seasoning, chilli, curry leaves and basil powder.

What you taste in the first bite, is a strong hit of salted egg seasoning. However, as you progress, the spice slowly kicks in. So it’s a slow burn.

But if you’re a fan of salted egg-flavoured anything, then you’ll love this, because it tastes authentic.

A 2-piece Goldspice Meal costs $8.55 while the 5-piece Goldspice Meal is $19.55.

You can also get the Goldspice Box at $10.55, which comes with 2 pieces of Goldspice chicken and Hot & Crispy Tenders, 1 regular whipped potato and fries, and Sjora.

But if you’re feeding a family, then go for the Goldspice Feast ($38.95), which comes with 9 pieces of Goldspice chicken, 12 nuggets, 2 medium whipped potato and coleslaw, and 4 Sjoras.

Egg Tarts Meet Nutella

The Goldspice Chicken isn’t the only thing they’re launching. KFC is also launching a Chocolate Hazelnut Egg Tart.

They probably can’t officially claim that it’s Nutella but I know Nutella when I taste it.

While it seemed like a weird combination, I’m no stranger to egg tarts in various flavours, so this didn’t really come as a surprise.

The flavour combinations actually work quite well. The egg custard in the tart is already sweet, but the addition of the Chocolate Hazelnut filling didn’t make it saccharine. My only gripe with it is that it flakes too easily.

It’s brittle and fragile, which makes it a struggle to eat.

Dessert Fries

The last item they’re launching came as a surprise. It’s so simple, yet so good? I’m genuinely surprised at how good it is.

It’s Chocolate Hazelnut Fries!

Now before you revolt in horror, I do know that there are people who eat their fries with ice cream. So chocolate fries should not come as a surprise. It’s the lesser of two evils.

The Chocolate Hazelnut Fries will be sold at $4.20 ala carte or $2.90 for add-on.

However, the Chocolate Fries will only be available in 10 KFC outlets islandwide – Jurong Point, Lot 1 Shoppers Mall, Causeway Point, Sun Plaza 2, Compass One, Waterway Point, Tampines CPF Building, Kallang Stadium, and Tampines Hub.

Together with the launch of the new menu items, KFC has also partnered with Sjora and Mediacorp to present the Everyday Wins Contest!

Every purchase of a Goldspice Meal will entitle you to a chance to win the grand prize of an Audi Q2, daily cash prize of $488, as well as KFC Instant Rewards like free Sjora, Milo, Whipped Potato and 1 piece Goldspice Chicken!

These new items will be available until 9 August 2018.
