Remember how dry and hot it was around this time last year? This year round, studies have indicated that hotter and drier conditions are expected. Instead of depending on the a/c, keep calm and brace yourself for extreme weather with these 5 thirst quenchers to make at home.
1. Lemon infused water
Lemon is a super fruit. They don’t only add flavours but also boost a ton of health benefits. They’re rich in antioxidants, will soothe a sore throat, promotes weight loss and even prevents kidney stones. So when life gives you heat wave, make lemon water!
Lemon infused water is the easiest and most refreshing infused water to make in a large beverage dispenser/ bottle to drink it throughout the day. Top it with some ice cubes and you’ll have an au naturel lemonade!
To make this cup of hydrating booster, you’ll need:
- 2 lemons, thinly siliced
- 2 litres of water
Steps:
- Placed the thinly sliced lemon into a pitcher/jug/bottle
- Add the water into the container
- Refrigerate it for 2-4 hours to allow the lemons to infuse
- Stir well and strain, discarding the lemons. The infused water can be kept in the refrigerator up to two days.

2. Pina Colada Smoothie
Nothing spells tropical than a pineapple coconut smoothie. Not only is it rich in enzymes, but also high in Vitamin C, anti inflammatory, and also super yummy.
To make this sunshine in a glass, you’ll need:
- 300g pineapples, peeled and chopped
- 200 ml full fat coconut milk
- 1 ripped medium avocado peeled
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp groud tumeric
- 150ml water or coconut water
Steps:
- Blend everything until smooth. Add water if necessary
- Consume immediately or store it in a glass jar and keep it refrigerated. (Can be kept up to 48 hours)

3. Raspberry Mojito
Having a few friends over? Here’s something refreshing and citrus-ey that you can serve them.
To make this Caribbean thirst quencher, you’ll need:
- 1/2 lime, cut into wedges
- 5 -6 raspberries
- 1 spoonful of sugar
- a good bunch of mint leaves (10-12)
- 2 ounce white rum
- club soda
Steps:
- Throw the lime wedges, raspberries, mint, and sugar into a glass.
- Using a spoon, press down on the ingredients to mush them all together and get all of the juice out of the lime wedges.
- Add ice and pour in rum.
- Top the glass off with club soda
Mojito hack: To make a mocktail version, omit the rum and club soda, and use 7-up or lemon cordial instead. You might want to cut down on the sugar (if you’re using 7up) and use shaved ice for a super cool mojito. Also, if raspberries are a little out of your budget, substitute it with strawberries or any other summer berries.
4. Watermelon Slushie
Ahh…just imagine sipping on icy cold slushie on a hot nasty day. Throw watermelon into the equation and that sure sounds like paradise.
To make this refreshing summery drink, you’ll need:
- 1 watermelon
- 2- 3 Limes
Steps:
- Cut watermelon into cubes
- Freeze watermelon cubes completely (about 3 hours)
- Add about 2 cups of water melon ice cubes into the blender
- Add two table spoons of freshly squeezed lime juice
- Blend the content and garnish the glass with a slice of lime before serving
Slushie hack: Basil tastes surprisingly fresh when paired with watermelon. Throw in about 1/4 cup of basil along with the watermelon and blend it all together.
5. Goji Berry Tea
Are you hearing more throat clearings and people coughing on the MRT lately? If you too are feeling under the weather, how bout adding some Goji Berry into your cup of tea.
Goji Berries are know to boost the immune system and protect the eyes. They are loaded with beta-carotene which promotes healthy skin and loaded with fibre.
To make this deeply nourishing and refreshing tea, you’ll need:
- 1 table spoon of Goji Berries for every 2 cups of water
- Water (whatever amount you like)
- Raw honey (optional)- to taste
Steps:
- Put Goji Berries in a pitcher/jug/bottle
- Pour in cold or warm water on the berries
- Let it steep until the water turns into a reddish colour and te Gojis are plump. (Warm/hot water will take a shorter time)
- Refrigerate if you want to serve it chilled
