” Too much of a good thing will make you sick”.

For Chun Cui He milk tea this could actually be true. The popular milk tea which has been flying off the shelves has just been recalled by the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority (AVA) due to the L-theanine, a food additive that is not on the list of permitted food additive under the Food Regulation of Singapore.

While L-theanine does not pose any health risks (it’s approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration), 7-Eleven stores have been told to stop the sale of the popular beverage.

Chun Cui He milk tea is not the first Taiwanese food product that has been pulled off the shelves. In 2013, the AVA recalled Ting Long tapioca pearls (bubble tea with no pearls? It’s just not right!) due to the it being tested positive for maleic acid, another unapproved food additive.

Unfortunately there has been no word on when and if the products will be be returned to shelves. If you’re a big fan of the brand do not fret! Chun Cui He’s latte flavoured drinks are still being sold at your nearest 7-Eleven!
