Tengah: The Newest Greenest Singapore Estate

Just yesterday (8 Sept), the Minister for National Development, Lawrence Wong unveiled plans for Singapore’s 24th HDB town, Tengah (Bet you can’t name all the 24 HDB towns in under 2 minutes!). The new estate is part of Government efforts to transform the West to be Singapore’s next CBD. It’s no coincidence that the West is also where the future Singapore- Kuala Lumpur rail terminal will be.

Tengah estate is expected to lie between Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Batok and Jurong West. Bounded by the Kranji Expressway and the Pan-Island Expressway, this 700ha area (around the size of Bishan) is the first HDB town to be developed since Punggol.

So what’s so special about Tengah? First and foremost, the key concept behind Tengah is the creation of a”Forest Town”, with homes surrounded by lush greenery and nature. Tengah will also include a 100m wide and 5km long forest corridor, perfect for hiking and taking long walks! Another major attraction in Tengah is the Central Park, 20ha in size  (about the size of Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West), the park will largely attract locals looking for a bit of quiet in a bustling Singapore.

Another unique aspect about Tengah is that it will also have the first car-free Town Centre! The Town Centre akin to the residential buildings have been designed amidst the lush greenery and nature. Great news for cyclist and pedestrians in the West, all roads in this new estate will come with dedicated walking and cycling paths!

Tengah’s first batch of HDB flats are expected to be launched from 2018. Tengah is expected to have 42,000 homes! Great news for those looking out for new flats or BTOs, the price of Tengah flats are comparable to other new towns such as Punggol.

So if you’re looking out for a new flat to purchase in a lush and tranquil area and you happen to love riding your bicycle and taking long walks, Tengah might just be the perfect place for you!
