You’ve done the time and served the maximum years. No, we’re not talking about prison – though most university students would say it’s no different. If you were in a relationship during your university days, look back at these 7 experiences only university couples will know about!
1. Studying Together
Because study dates > real dates.
Balancing your studies and your relationship at the same time was never easy but study dates always provided that in-between that you needed.
Holding hands while reading through lecture materials, discussing thesis statements at Starbucks or just plain writing notes together in the school café, study dates always killed two birds with one stone.
2. Surviving Long Distance Relationship
Oh woe, the time to serve National Service is here and only one of you will be attending university.
The bunch of us who’ve been with our sweethearts since Junior College or Polytechnic will know about this heartbreak.
3. Surviving the real Long Distance Relationship
You were busy studying your ass off in the United States while he did the same in Singapore.
Nothing is harder than a long distance relationship (LDR) and we all know that. Skype becomes your best friend and seeing each other more than twice a month becomes a luxury.
4. Cheap dates
Because this was your last chance to enjoy student deals.
Looking for cheap food was never a chore for the resourceful university couple.
From shamelessly showing your student card just to get that extra discount to having your fair share of cup noodles, these kind of dates might not be what you experience now but it’s nice to look back at how it was like to date as a university couple!
5. Skyping till late into the night
The messaging app was a god sent during days when you can’t meet each other.
Between tutorials, lectures and projects, it would have been impossible to meet your loved one for a date even if you wanted to.
Be it a call from Singapore to Australia or from Boon Lay to Seng Kang, Skype was always there to save the day and provide you and your love a platform to see each other and just chat about anything.
Remember to thank Skype when you get married. We kid.
6. Cheating
Not on each other obviously!
‘Poteng-ing’ school wasn’t limited to just our secondary school days. We have all at least skipped a lecture just to study or, just to take a break.
You would be a little guilty, but going on a study date made you feel better again.
7. Being with each other till the end

Graduation day is always a huge sigh of relief and moment of pride for every student. It’s even sweeter when you know you went through all that with your significant other.
Let’s all admit it. No matter how much we said “University was hell”, we never really meant it.
It gave us some of the best times of our lives and also, the skills we needed. The experiences we faced together as a couple are unforgettable.
