Ikeda Spa is home to Singapore’s first hinoki onsen – that is, an onsen made from Japan’s most prized cypress wood once reserved strictly for royalty, and used for building palaces, temples and shrines. This precious wood releases mineral oils with soothing scents and anti-bacterial properties to calm and uplift.

They offer single baths (from $80+ for 30 minutes) for those who prefer a bit more privacy. You can also choose from 5 different bath salt choices for different aromatherapy and other health benefits for your needs.

Got Balls? Fight The IKEA Crowd And Grab A Plate Of Meatballs For Just $0.75 This Weekend

IKEA 75

There’s an unofficial rule in life that if you go to IKEA, you buy their meatballs.

They might not be of the highest quality (there are other places for that), but at the affordable price of $6 for a plate of 8, they are hands-down the easiest to satisfy your meatball cravings.

And if you have been craving the nostalgia-inducing dish lately, this weekend might be the time to scratch that itch, because the Swedish furniture company will be selling their meatballs for less than a dollar.

Wait, How Much?!

[caption id="attachment_37684" align="alignnone" width="1308"]IKEA 75 Image Credit: IKEA Singapore[/caption]

Yup, you heard us right — in celebration of their 75th anniversary, IKEA will be selling a plate of 8 meatballs for 75 cents on the 6th and 7th of October.

If the calculator on our phones are working correctly, that’s an unbelievable 9(.375) cents per meatball, which means that your meal will probably be cheaper than the transport costs to get there.

There are a few things to take note of though: this promotion will only be happening at IKEA Tampines (sorry, north/south/west siders), and you have to be IKEA FAMILY member to be eligible as well.

Only 750 plates will be sold at this price (limited to one plate per member, thankfully), and judging by how Kiasu Singaporeans can be you’ll most likely have to wake up reaaal early to take advantage of this offer.

More Than Just Meatballs

If you can’t be bothered with going up against what is sure to be a chaotic crowd, IKEA is having pretty massive discounts on their furniture as well (because they’re…y’know, a furniture company).

To save you a trip to the their website, Here’s a list what’s on offer:

Take A Walk In The Visually Impaired’s Shoes At Dialogue In The Dark – Free Admission On Oct 6

There’s a lot of things that we take for granted in life, and our eyesight might be the biggest offender in that respect.

Think about it — we stare at a computer the entire day at school/work, squint at the tiny text on our phones on the commute back home, and then kick back by watching YouTube on yet another screen with little regard to what it’s doing to our eyes in the long run.

What we don’t realise (or try not to think about, at least) is that some people don’t have access to this seemingly basic privilege, and Dialogue In The Dark is giving you the chance to take a literal walk in their shoes.

See Less, Learn More

For the uninitiated, Dialogue In The Dark is a social initiative that allows you to experience the life of a visually impaired person.

[caption id="attachment_37518" align="alignnone" width="2048"]Dialogue In The Dark Image Credit – Dialogue In The Dark – Singapore[/caption]

Led by guides who are visually impaired themselves, you’ll be taken through specially designed rooms that are shrouded in darkness, and learn how they perform everyday tasks walking in the park and visiting a cafe.

It’s a sobering experience, to say the least, and one that is sure to make you appreciate life a little more.

Now, we’re fully aware that Dialogue In The Dark isn’t exactly a new concept (the Singapore branch has been opened since 2009), but we’re writing this because now could the best time to try it.

[caption id="attachment_37519" align="alignnone" width="920"]Dialogue In The Dark Image Credit: Tedx Pickering Street[/caption]

Tickets for this experience usually cost $15 and $25 for students and adults respectively, but as part of the Tedx Pickering Street Adventures series of events, you can attend a session on the 6th of October completely free (you’ll need to pay $2 deposit, but it’ll be refunded at the door).

We’re pretty sure that there’s limited slots and they’ll be snatched up quick on account of being…y’know, free, so head over to Peatix now to secure a place.

Calling All Roald Dahl Fans: Matilda The Musical Is Coming To Singapore In Feb 2019

If you remember begging your parents to buy you the entire Roald Dahl series when you were younger, then you’re in for a real treat.

Matilda The Musical – a stage adaptation of the novel Matilda is coming to Singapore. Not to mention, for the first time ever in Asia.

[caption id="attachment_37325" align="aligncenter" width="938"]matilda musical Image Credit: Matilda The Musical Singapore Facebook[/caption]

Matilda Comes To Singapore

If you’ve never read the book or watched the movie, here’s a breakdown of the plot.

The musical follows Matilda, a precocious 5-year-old girl who loves reading and learning but is suppressed by her TV-obsessed parents who pay her little attention and bullied by her formidable school headmistress Miss Trunchbull for being too smart.

[caption id="attachment_37328" align="aligncenter" width="1013"]matilda the musical Image Credit: Matilda The Musical Facebook[/caption]

As she grows up, she begins to resist the challenges and obstacles presented to her, learning that sometimes you have to be a “little bit naughty” in order to get through life – a tale that’ll resonate with audiences young and old alike.

This Flea Market Is Painting S’pore CMYK From 20-23 Sep, With Over 500 International Stalls

When it comes to flea markets, no one does it better than the Thais — from Chatuchak to Pratunam to Rot Fai, these chaotic, yet rewarding shopping hubs provide a one-of-a-kind experience that you can’t find anywhere else.
One major problem with these Thai markets, however, is that they’re…well, located in Thailand, which means that we’re only able to visit them a few days out of every year at most.

If you’re already experiencing withdrawal symptoms since your last Bangkok trip, you’ll be glad to know that another Thai-inspired flea market called CMYK: The Shade Of Young Enterprise is making their way to our shores this week.

More Stalls Than Ever

Short for “Creative Millennials Youth Karnival” (points for creativity, we guess), the market aims to “give visitors fresh new experiences for connecting, communicating, showcasing, and purchasing”.
Sounds like a worthy cause, but the key takeaway here is that there’ll be more than 500 stalls selling food, clothes, handicrafts and more.

So who exactly will be running these stalls? Well, the usual hipster suspects like Cereal Citizen and The Bulb Station will be making expected appearances, and with vendors from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand (duh), Hong Kong and Australia setting up shop as well, you’re bound to find something worth spending your money on.

In true Thai market fashion, shopping isn’t the only thing you can do there — there’ll be a host of live music performances to keep you sane as you trudge through the crowds, as well as “motivational talks by international leading entrepreneurs” to keep in line with the young business motif that they’ve cultivated for themselves.

Admission is also free, which may or may not be a good thing depending on how much you hate people. At least you’re getting the real Thai market experience this way?
