Don’t worry, the event is open to public with free admission. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, on to the vendors!

The Bites

Dine from 10 different food stalls at bites & vibes.

Taste the best of Greek food from ALATI, dumplings from Dumpling Darlings, delightful sandwiches and burgers from Park Bench Deli and Burger Joint, empanadas and more from BoCHINche, asian fusion dishes from Ding Dong and cool down with Ben & Jerry’s!

Vatos Urban Tacos will also have a booth at bites & vibes, serving up their signature Korean-Mexican fusion dishes! Don’t miss out on their Galbi Short Rib Taco! (It’s REALLY good.)

Of course with all this food, you need some drinks to wash it all down and the mixologists from Proof & Co. have got you covered with their refreshing cocktails. PengWine will also be there serving glass after glass of wine and sangria and hosting wine tastings.

If that’s a little too fancy, how about just getting a nice cold mug of beer from Tiger?

The event will also be plastic-free – all packaging will be made from biodegradable sugar cane pulp.

The Vibes

No block party is complete without the activities! Though there’s no retail market here, there are a few activities that you can take part in!

Take part in a workout session by F45 Training or WeBarre, or relax and stretch in a yoga session with Pure Yoga. Ohmmmm….

That’s not all, you can expect performances by local artists such as Sam Rui, Sobs, Maricelle, and DJ Sivanesh Pillai!

Garden Rhapsody: Singapore Edition

If you’re looking for a place to just sit back and relax, head on over to the Supertrees at Gardens By The Bay, where there’ll be a special National Day edition of the Garden Rhapsody light and sound show.

The light show’s hypnotic visuals should be reason enough to head down, but the real attraction is the star-studded group of Benjamin Kheng, Nathan Hartono, Rani Singam and iNCH, who will be performing a collection of local tunes to keep you in the National Day mood.

Films At The Fort

Okay, this one isn’t exactly National Day themed, but paying a little too much for a hipster experience has become so commonplace in Singapore that it could be considered a national pastime.

At $30 a ticket, Films At The Fort isn’t exactly the cheapest date idea, but you’ll be hard pressed to find another event that allows you to watch a classic movie in an open-air setting under the stars. It’s a unique concept for sure, and one you should experience at least once in your life.

Romance Classic The Notebook and sex comedy Blockers will be screening on Saturday and Sunday respectively, so there’s something for everyone. The organisers are also expecting “a strong demand for tickets”, so be sure to get yours quick.

Abseiling In The Heartlands

Abseiling off a block of HDB flats is a real thing in Singapore. Gone were those days where bungee jumping and bar top dancing weren’t allowed in Singapore as authorities, who for years have kept a tight rein on fun, show gradual signs of loosening up.

Not for the faint hearted, this newfangled activity is organised by the abseiling interest group at West Coast CC Youth Club.

They folks at West Coast CC Youth Club are bringing abseiling to the residents instead of you coming to them. The abseiling activities are held every second Sunday of the month. Best part, you get to abseil off a different HDB block every month.

If you’re thinking, “Siao ah?!”

This activity is completely safe and fun for all ages. If you’re deathly afraid of heights, rest assured that you’ll be in the safe hands of professionals.

If you’re looking forward to some butt-clenching excitement, all you have to do is sign up and all equipments will be provided by the West Coast CC Youth Club themselves.

Singapore Night Festival Returns On Aug 17 With Luminous Horses, Lightning Duels And More

August is almost upon us. Other than National Day and a whole bunch of Durian, Nasi Lemak, and locally-inspired food to try, there’s also the annual Singapore Night Festival!

Happening from 17 to 25 August 2018, the Singapore Night Festival returns for its 11th edition, once again taking over the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct.

Over a span of 9 days, the area transforms into a midsummer celebration, with dance performances and art installations for festival-goers.

This year, the festival kicks off with Night Lights, which will feature 16 light installations by both local and international artists peppered around the Arts and Heritage district.

Festival-goers can also revel in the showcase of 27 performances across various different art disciplines from 23 to 25 August 2018. As with the previous years, there will also be food and beverage options and artisan crafts on sale.

This year’s festival will also feature unique collaborations such as the performance by Hope Technik and local jazz dance troupe EV Dance.

The performance, named Let there be ____ will see the dancers donning and performing with the ‘Audra Exoskeleton’ – an exo-suit created by Hope Technik to assist workers in heavy lifting.

The Leap of Faith by Teng Ka Wei is a honeycomb-inspired installation that lights up with words of encouragement when visitors interact with it.

The World of WearableArt is an internationally-renowned New Zealand-based design competition, and this year it’s partnering with the Singapore Night Festival for the first time. They will be displaying 8 of the competition’s past intriguing creations.

That’s not all, this year, if you explore around the festival grounds, you’ll find numerous unexpected surprise performances, such as the FierS à Cheval (Proud Horses), a roving act featuring large luminous horses dancing and strutting around the precinct, by French theatre troupe, Company Quidams!.

If you liked the Tesla Coil show at the Science Centre when you were a kid, you’ll love this next performance.

In a stunning combination of physics and art, UK troupe Lords of Lightning’s performance, The Duel, will see nearly four million volts of electricity hurled into the air as thunderbolts. Pikachu got nothing on them.

The back alleys of Armenian Street will also be transformed thanks to the Graffiti Alive installation which uses lights and motion sensors to bring street art to life!

From 17 to 25 August 2018 at the Bras Basah.Bugis precinct, the Singapore Night Festival 2018 promises to be the hottest event in town.

1. Tekka Market Mural

Little India has always been a vibrant, upbeat neighbourhood with plenty of things to see and do. Did we mention that there’s plenty of murals scattered around Little india?

If the weather is too hot or you’d rather stay in a shaded area, there’s a colourful mural right at Tekka Market itself! Best part, Tekka Market is a 3 minute walk from Little India MRT so you don’t have to lug your bags and heavy cameras in this crazy heat.

If you do plan on going on an early weekend morning, do take note that Tekka Market can get pretty crowded and crazy. Just be patient and get your cameras ready for the perfect shot.

2. Stalls Along Little India

Who would’ve thought that fruit stalls would make a good backdrop for your couple shots? You can find plenty of stalls selling fresh produce all around Little India. The stall owners are really friendly as well so don’t be afraid to approach them for a picture!

Just remember to be respectful and TRY not to drop the fruits on the floor.

3. Little India Alleyways

One of our favourite things about Little India would definitely be their alleyways. Sure, they’re not the most romantic or cleanest place to shoot at but it makes for an amazing street photo.

Besides, there’s barely any crowd at these alleyways. So go ahead and act crazy and take your wildest shots!

If you’re lucky, you might just find an abandoned Mustafa Centre Trolley which will be an extremely useful prop for your pictures.

4. Mustafa Centre

There are 1001 reasons why Mustafa Centre is the greatest place to have ever existed in Singapore. Every week, tens of thousands of people shuffle their way through Mustafa’s narrow aisles in search for a ‘fun’ way to pass their day.

The interior of Mustafa Centre is confusing enough to put The Maze Runner to shame. This also means that there are plenty of hidden photo opportunity spots so keep your eyes peeled for them!

Sike. We found a row of flowers on the 3rd floor of Mustafa Centre and decided that it’d be the perfect backdrop to fool all your friends with. Tag Gardens By The Bay on your picture and your friends probably can’t even tell the difference.

If you’re into all things retro and you believe that John Lennon is the next closest thing to God, then you’ll be pleased to know that Mustafa Centre has an aisle dedicated to old school vinyl records. You’ll find everything from Frank Sinatra to Coldplay here.

Do take note that the aisles are pretty narrow so be smart and try not to block others from viewing the vinyls!

5. Rubbish Dumps along 632 & 634 Veerasamy Road

Yes, you read that right.

This amazing wall is in fact a rubbish dump. Go right around the corner and you’ll find a long wall with this quirky mural. Get creative with your poses and you might just get that perfect shot. No one can tell that you took this shot at a rubbish dump.

The smell? Trust us, it wasn’t that bad.

6. Selegie House

Now that National Day is just around the corner, here’s where you can go to show your love for Singapore. This is the perfect place to get that very Singaporean shot for your Instagram.

7. Bhai Sarbat Stall

If you’re a Bugis crawler, then you know that this is the BEST place to get your teh tarik fix after a long day. Previously known as the “No Name Teh Sarabat Stall”, they have finally gone digital and created their very own Instagram account AND fixed a shop signboard to help wondering Singaporeans and clueless tourists to find their stall!

Whether you love teh or not, buy a cup (or two) and strike a pose.

8. Queen Street Bus Terminal

This terminal serves buses and taxis which take passengers to and from Malaysia.

Before the taxi terminal was built in 1984, taxis plying between Singapore and Johor Bahru parked at Rochor Road. The bus terminal started in 1985, bringing Malaysia-bound buses – which previously picked up passengers from bus stops at Queen Street and Waterloo Street, all under one roof!

If you’re looking for that old school vibe, this bus stop will give you that P.Ramlee and Saloma or Yuen Wah and Yuen Qiu feels.

The best time to check out this place would be in the evening so you can catch that golden hour glow!

8 Best Places In Singapore To Stargaze And Catch The Lunar Eclipse

If you didn’t already know, something big is happening this Saturday, 28 July 2018.

There’s going to be another LUNAR ECLIPSE happening! And not just any typical lunar eclipse.

Set to last 1 hour and 43 minutes from 3.30am to 5.13am Singapore time, this will be the longest lunar eclipse of the century and will be visible from Asia, Australia, Africa and Europe.

However, with Singapore being a well-developed city, our light pollution is intense, so it might be hard to find a good spot to get a good look and photo.

So here are some places that might be dark enough to enjoy the lunar eclipse (a.k.a blood moon) in all its scarlet glory.

1. Seletar Rocket Tower

Located in Upper Seletar Reservoir, the Seletar Rocket Tower makes for a great spot to catch the lunar eclipse.

The place is mostly secluded and it has 3 carparks a short walk away so it’s still accessible by car. Other than the lunar eclipse, it’s also a great place to catch amazing sunsets and stargaze too.

2. Changi Boardwalk

Changi Boardwalk is one of the more popular spots for stargazing and other astronomy-related pursuits.

Stargazing parties are still being organised and held at Changi Beach.

It’ll be best to bring a party of people if you intend to go there for lunar eclipse because Changi Beach is infamous for being “dirty”, if you know what I mean.

4. Lim Chu Kang Cemetery

Another spot with great views of the moon and stars and a spook factor.

However, Labrador Nature Reserve comes with its own spooky tales so tread cautiously.

6. Lorong Halus Bridge

The Lorong Halus bridge stretches over the Punggol Waterway and offers amazing views of the sunrise. It’s also great for stargazing and moon-viewing.

If you’re in the far north-east, this is your best spot for all your astronomy pursuits.

7. Singapore Botanic Gardens

The Singapore Botanic Gardens is one of the least light-polluted places in Singapore, along with the Labrador Park Nature Reserve.

Open fields for stargazing and moon-viewing are aplenty here. These include the spaces near the Eco Lake, Symphony Lake, Swan Lake, and the Bandstand.

It’s as simple as that.

We’ve been waiting for Wi-Fi on buses for those long bus rides and while SBS and SMRT doesn’t seem to be implementing these as permanent features anytime soon, this is the closest we can get to that dream.

I guess it’s time to start taking the bus home.

Cycle Up A 7-Storey Carpark In This Race – Don’t Say You’re ‘Two-Tyred’ For It

If you’ve participated in the OCBC Cycle, then you might want to test yourself with this upcoming cycling event, the Downtown Race 2018.

Happening on 19 August 2018, the Downtown Race will take place in a carpark! That’s right, it’s uphill all the way, sweetie.

Do You Have What It Takes?

There are a total of 9 race categories to choose from – Juniors M&F, Men’s Open Elite, Men’s Masters, Men’s Supermasters, Men’s Sport/Weekend Warrior, Women’s Open, Women’s Sport/Weekend Warrior, MTB Open, and Fixed Gear Open.

The race will pit Singapore’s best cyclists from road, mountain and fixed gear biking against each other for the Men and Women’s Open category, where the top 10 cyclists will battle it out for the title of King or Queen of the Downtown Race!

You begin in Basement 2 of the carpark, and cycle as quickly as possible to the top of the carpark.

Winners of each category will receive a medal and a limited edition jersey specially designed for Downtown Race 2018!

Registration for Downtown Race 2018 is $50, and it comes with a sign up pack with $50 worth of Downtown Gallery Cash vouchers and other gifts.

Of course, the kids won’t be left out.

There will be fun family activities like kid’s races and watt bike races. For those of you looking to improve your timing, there will also be talks on how to improve your performance.
