TaoKaeNoi’s First S’pore Outlet Lets Us Get Our Seaweed Fix Without Flying To Thailand!
Back in primary school, seaweed snacks were by far the most popular tidbits to munch on. Not only was it small and easy to snack on it was also the cheapest thing you could buy (it was 10 cents back then!). Fast forward more than a decade and seaweed still remains one of most popular snacks we Singaporeans love to binge on.
TaoKaeNoi is now reknown for its Crispy Seaweed snack. Found in most supermarkets, it’s pretty addictive and they come in several flavours like Hot & Spicy and my own personal favourite Tempura!
TaoKaeNoi is so popular here in Singapore, they’ve decided to open their very first international TaeKaeNoil Land in Suntec City.
[caption id="attachment_19790" align="alignnone" width="750"] TaoKaeNoi’s Crispy Seaweed[/caption]Stepping into the store, we were pleasantly surprised to see a wide range of flavours of TaoKaeNoi’s Crispy Seaweed. From the Wasabi (which can be found at your local supermarkets) to the super unique Peking Duck, the store was filled of floor to ceiling shelving chock full of TaoKaeNoi’s Crispy Seaweed.
[caption id="attachment_19788" align="alignnone" width="750"] TaoKaeNoi’s Crispy Seaweed[/caption]To celebrate the opening of its first outlet outside Thailand, TaeKaeNoi Land has an ongoing promotion. You can get your hands on any 4 of TaoKaeNoi’s Crispy Seaweed at only $10!
[caption id="attachment_19792" align="alignnone" width="750"] iPlus Seaweed[/caption]If flavoured seaweed isn’t your cup of tea, TaoKaeNoi has brought their other products over to our shores. Look out for the iPlus seaweed, which consists of generous offerings of dried shrimp amongst thin strips of seaweed. Just slightly salty, the combination of the crunchy seaweed and dried shrimp actually brings out the salty-sea flavour of the seaweed.
[caption id="attachment_19796" align="alignnone" width="750"] Durian Flavoured Big Bang Grilled Seaweed[/caption]While making our way round the outlet, we spotted Cheese flavoured Crispy Seaweed and even Durian! We had to try it out the Durian Big Bang Grilled Seaweed for ourselves, and we were surprised at the light taste. With just a hint of durian, it’s a ‘So Singaporean’ snack worth having a go!
[caption id="attachment_19803" align="alignnone" width="1000"] TaoKaeNoi Ramen[/caption]Craving for something quick and filling? TaoKaeNoi is offering up their very own ramen, with flavours like Tom Yum, these ramen packs have TaoKaeNoi seaweed bits right in the broth!
Thai Treats
[caption id="attachment_19795" align="alignnone" width="750"] Thai Biscuit Sticks[/caption]While the majority of the products in the store are TaoKaeNoi’s, TaoKaeNoi Land also carries other Thai treats. Coconut and banana flavoured coated biscuits are the perfect treat if you’re craving something slightly sweeter.
[caption id="attachment_19799" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Wholesome Nut Bars[/caption]Not much of a sweet tooth? TaoKaeNoi also carries a range of healthier products. Nut bars are up for grabs if you need a quick pick me up but want a healthier option!
[caption id="attachment_19800" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Flavoured Lemongrass Teas[/caption]And to wash all these sweet Thai treats down? Get your hands on the range of lemongrass teas. Infused with Pandan or Ginger, your afternoons are now set with these flavoured cups of tea.
[caption id="attachment_19802" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Flavoured Toffees[/caption]Decadence takes a new meaning with the flavoured toffees that TaoKaeNoi Land carries. A unique twist that brings East and West together, these flavoured toffees come in Durian and Mangosteen. Wrapped in individual packaging, you’ll never fear the toffee losing its authentic taste!
TaoKaeNoi’s Online Facebook Game
[caption id="attachment_19804" align="alignnone" width="1000"] TaoKaeNoi App[/caption]TaoKaeNoi is celebrating this festive season by rolling out their very own app. Available on iOS and Android mobile platforms, TaoKaeNoi’s app can only be accessed if you can get your hands on game cards. Each game card holds a unique password which entitles you to one turn at the game. And from 10 Dec to 28 Feb, the top scorer of each day will get their hands on $128!

There’s Nothing Like A Real Christmas Tree: Here’s Where To Buy Them & Care Tips!
Christmas isn’t really Christmas without your very own pine scented tree. If you’ve always wanted to have a real Christmas tree in your house, look no further!
[caption id="attachment_19357" align="aligncenter" width="930"] Credit: Far East Flora[/caption]Prepare all your presents because this year, they’ll have a new cosy home.
1. Far East Flora
You’re bound to find your dream tree at this extremely popular nursery.
Two types of real Christmas trees are sold at Far East Flora, the Noble Fir and the Norman Fir. We heard from the folks at Far East Flora that Noble Fir is the species that exude that earthly, pine-smelling fragrance. You know which to get now!
[caption id="attachment_18814" align="alignnone" width="780"] Image Credit: The Straits Times[/caption]Noble Fir’s strong and stiff branches enable it to hold heavier ornaments – a trait not shared by other species.
Trees are available for pre-order as early as November and be sure to do so early because most are snagged by December! They do bring in trees regularly, so call ahead to find out if there has been a new batch!

2. Bedok Garden and Landscape
For people in the East who want a share in the Christmas spirit.
[caption id="attachment_18829" align="alignnone" width="960"] Image Credit: Bedok Garden & Landscape Pte Ltd[/caption]Here’s another nursery that offers the Noble Firs. The blue-green trees are extremely popular and are sold out super fast. Easties, do take note to book early if you don’t want to be disappointed.

3. Prince’s Landscape and Construction
If you not only want a real Christmas tree, but also a decorated one, try this nursery.
[caption id="attachment_19359" align="aligncenter" width="370"] Credit: Prince’s[/caption]Find it a hassle to set up a Christmas tree, but you still want one? Prince’s has just the package for you.
Prices range from $189 – $450 depending on how tall your tree is. The price includes setting up, dismantling and a loaned tree stand. If you would still like to hang the ornaments on the tree yourself, self-decoration packages are also available.
Prince’s Landscape & Construction Pte Ltd You don’t need to have a green thumb to take care of your live Christmas tree if you follow these simple steps. Ensure that your tree has adequate water. A stand that also includes a reservoir to hold water would be the best. It is important to note that your Christmas tree should be placed on its stand and watered within 6-8 hours of you bringing it home. You can mist it everyday, that will bring out the fragrance of the tree even more! You see a very pretty stand but it doesn’t really fit your tree; it’s too small. Whittling the trunk to fit it sounds nice a good idea, yes? WRONG. Never ever buy a stand that does not fit your tree’s trunk. The outer layers of the trunk are the most efficient in taking in water and are hence important to your Christmas tree’s livelihood. Do not place your tree near any heat source or directly under the sun as it can cause the tree to dry up. If you plan to decorate your tree with lights, use those that produce LED lights, or those that produce low heat. Ensure that the ornaments you hang up are not too heavy. Some species may not have the stable branches of the Noble Firs and may cause the ornaments to fall and break. If you have pets, make sure that your tree is protected should your tree ‘faint’.

What If We Told You, You’ve Been Choosing Your Christmas Gifts Wrong All Along?
Let’s be honest, while we Singaporeans love Christmas (the lights, the food, the endless parties and get-togethers!), picking out the perfect gifts for family and friends can be pretty tough.
We can readily admit that pinning down that unique, extra special and thoughtful gift for a loved one is no easy feat.
Chances are, after hours of searching and walking up and down Orchard Road, you would have settled for the typical gift sets, hampers and bags of sweet treats to give out to family, friends and colleagues (don’t even try to deny it)!

5. Balvenie
[caption id="attachment_19202" align="alignnone" width="768"] Balvenie[/caption]The world’s most handcrafted single malt, Balvenie is renowned around the globe for their award winning malt whiskies.
Earlier this month, Balvenie teamed up with acclaimed photographer James Stroud to showcase the history and the culture behind Balvenie. The showcase’s art pieces highlighted the Balvenie distillery in Dufftown, Scotland.
Our ambassador, Janelle, dropped by the National Museum of Singapore to catch a glimpse of the Balvenie x James Stroud exhibition and experiencing the craft of making whiskey!

Located at Esplanade, Alter Ego offers up both “clean eating” Poke Bowls that Poke Theory is known for as well as a more decadent selection of eats. Bar snacks like Loaded Taters and a mouth watering Chilli Cheese Dog make up the bulk of the menu at Alter Ego.
Our ambassador Nicole dropped by Alter Ego to indulge in some of the delicious (and seriously sinful) fare that Alter Ego is known for!
Best part about Alter Ego? It stays open pretty late and they offer a pretty wide selection of ciders, ales and draft beers!

Not IKEA: 4 Places To Buy Good & Cheap Furniture So You Don’t Have To DIY
When it comes to sprucing up your new home, IKEA is typically the first place that pops into mind. There’s no doubt that it offers cheap furniture at decent quality.
However, this option is sometimes not ideal, because you’ve got to put the furniture together yourself. Also, when friends and family start spotting the same furniture as you, it gets a little too predictable.
In order to differentiate your home interior from your family and friends, here are four places to go furniture shopping at without burning a hole in your pocket!
1. Second Charm
Going for a vintage or retro-style for your living space? Look no further with Second Charm!
Carrying vintage-retro furniture including antiques and collectibles, this is the perfect place to source for one-of-a-kind pieces that is bound to induce envy amongst your home visitors. Additionally, Second Charm also carries customised furniture and has even ventured into Scandinavian and Danish-inspired furniture.
Most of their furniture pieces are made of teak, so they ensure high quality while keeping the price tag low.

These chairs will certainly create a tinge of nostalgia and homely feel to your living space – which is exactly how a home should be!
[caption id="attachment_18961" align="aligncenter" width="580"] Credit: Credit: Second Charm Facebook[/caption]Do note that you will have to drop Second Charm an email on the specific measurements for your furniture in order to receive a quotation from them. Though it might seem troublesome, perhaps the thought of knowing that most of your furniture pieces are exclusively customised for YOUR home might make you think otherwise!
