Apple iPhone 7 Launch Has Descended Upon Us – Avoid These Places Until The Hype Dies Down

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few months, you must have heard about the iPhone 7. Rumours of the newest Apple iPhone being headphone jack-less and a duel camera proved to be true when Tim Cook (Apple’s CEO) introduced our newest obsession (we want it, we need it, we gotta have it!) at Apple’s inaugural September Keynote.

While you can get your pre-orders for Apple’s newest brainchild tomorrow (Sept 9) on the Apple website. If you would rather have the experience of seeing and touching the phone in person before dropping a mean thousand dollars, the phone is available in stores next Friday (Sept 16). While the new iPhone 7 is great news for any big tech fan out there for the rest of us it means seeing hordes of people queuing up at your local telcos.

We gathered a list of places to AVOID if you’re not keen on a) getting your hands on the iPhone 7  b) struggling to make your way through a very excited and impatient crowd.

Here’s A Look At Funan’s New Revamped Look – And It Is Cool AF!

If you’re really into technology or if you’ve gotten replacements for your electronic gadgets over the years you would have stepped into Funan DigitaLife Mall at least once. The mall which has been closed since June, is known for selling electronic gadgets and computers. The former IT mall will continue to be closed until 2019, where it will reopen its doors as a mixed-used complex. But lucky for us, we got a sneak peak at what the new Funan will look and IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND.

The New Funan

Funan artist's impression 3_Bird's eye view (1)

At 887, 000 sq ft the new and improved Funan will house offices, serviced apartments and 6 floors chock full of retail stores.
For comparison, the nearby Raffles City stands at only 421,720 sq ft! If you think Funan is losing its roots as the one stop shop for IT you are sorely mistaken! Funan is implementing a tech experience to its customers. Targeting mobile customers, you can now pick up your purchases at the Funan concierge or even get it delivered!

According to Mr Lim Ming Yan President and Group CEO of CapitaLand Limited,

“With community, connectivity and convenience at its core, Funan will cater to the new breed of consumers who favour a collaborative environment and authentic experiences that reflect their passions and tastes.”

Inside

To support healthy living and an increasingly car-less society, Funan is gearing towards providing services for bicyclists! Bike shops and shower facilities are in the works, cyclists can now rejoice! YES to keeping fit AND smelling fresh on the go!

If you’re not a cyclist, do not fret! Golden Village is offering a multi-sensory experience in its new Funan home. (Does this mean 4D cinema experience?!) Kopitiam, another major tenant will be featuring robotic vacuum cleaners and self-ordering kiosks! And if that isn’t getting you excited, a 50-lane rock climbing wall that will span 4 floors is being erected by Climb Central!

5 Hipster Hang Out Spots In Singapore That You Should Visit With Your Best Friends

All of us would remember fondly of a hangout spot where we spent many hours with childhood friends, pretending to be pirates and big bad wolves. As we grow older, this communal playground slowly disappears. But that does not mean that the fun has to end now that we’ve all grown up.

In Singapore, we’re lucky to have so many different hangout spots offering a game-and-food experience. We can bond with all our best buddies over different games; from pool to electronic darts to a sinister board game to Guitar Hero. The best part? All at a reasonable price.

Here are five superb hangout spots you can check out. Whether you want to kill some time, have some fun, or create new memories with friends, you’d find something you like.

Cue Guru

[caption id="attachment_11766" align="alignnone" width="700"]Image Credit: @shaneinfinite / Instagram Image Credit: @shaneinfinite / Instagram[/caption]

Cue Guru is my first choice when it comes to killing an hour between plans, especially if there is some time between finishing dinner and a movie. Averaging about $10 to $20 per hour, depending on the time of day, it is a great way to have some fun without breaking the bank. You can easily split the game cost between a few friends.

For food, try the $28 combo available at Cue Guru. It comes with a jug of Tiger Beer and a plate of crunchy popcorn chicken. The $25 weekday value combo, which is only valid from Monday to Thursday 11 AM – 3 PM, comes with two hours of pool games, a choice of two mocktails or juices, and a snack. If you’re a little thirsty, order from the bar. It is usually well stocked with designer beers, wine and cocktails.

Cue Guru is currently available in two locations: Bugis+ and Kovan.

One of our favourite titles at Settlers Cafe is Pandemic. It’s a 2-4 people strategy game that requires the players to stop and treat a virus that will soon conquer the whole world! If you’re looking for more of a party game choice, go for Taboo, a game that will guarantee a good laugh, no matter what.

Not Just Dino! Grab These 7 Other Pouches & Bags To Show Your Support!

Recently, Ho Ching, the wife of our PM, PM Lee Hsien Loong, made headlines with a very particular fashion item. She was spotted carrying a blue Dino Pouch while attending an official ceremony at the White House with Michelle Obama.

[caption id="attachment_11982" align="alignnone" width="560"]Image source: Reuters Image source: Reuters[/caption]

Blue Dino Pouch

Turns out that the Dino Pouch is not any avant-garde brand typically associated with people of her league. Instead, she chose to use one with a humble price tag of $14.80 designed by a student with special needs. Hours after the photos surfaced online, the Dino Pouch sold like hot cakes.

Screen Shot 2016-08-04 at 11.23.57 PM

The Dino Pouch is designed by 19-year old See Toh Sheng Jie, a student with autism, who has been on Pathlight School’s Artist Development Programme (ADP) since its inception in 2011. Under this program, students with autism have the opportunity to work with professional artists to nurture their talents.

The Dino Pouch is currently sold out and is available for pre-order only, with an estimated 2 months wait time. You can place your order here.

Alternatively, check out the following 7 bags and pouches to support students with special needs, just like what Ho Ching did!

2. Multi-purpose Case by Jun-Yi

3. Denim Pouch Secret Garden by Jolie

692-Secret_Garden_Demin_Pouch_by_Jolie

This super cute coin pouch is available in pink (photo above) and in cream, and is priced at $28.90. A travel pouch option is also available here and is priced at $48.00.

6. Leather Travel Pouch Feather by Selena

732-Leather_Travel_Pouch,_Feather_Motif_by_Selena_(Cream)Selena has a way of portraying birds in her artwork – it usually exudes a sense of serenity and calmness. If you’re wondering how she achieved drawing the feathery details, the answer lies in very well-sharpened colour pencils. The leather pouch is priced at $48.00 and is available in Cream and Beige. If you’re looking for a coin pouch of the same motif, it’s priced at $28.90, and is available in Cream and Beige as well.

7. Chinese Flower Sling Bag by Nicole

1

Nicole may only be 16 years of age but she is extremely expressive through Chinese calligraphy and watercolour landscapes. Just look at the colour choice of her doodle! It’s so vibrant, and energetic with a hint of strength.  The sling bag’s flap is interchangeable with 4 designs: Chinese Flower (flap, bag), Animal Congregation (flap, bag), Dolphin Waves (flap, bag) and Soccer OK (flap, bag). The changeable flap is retailed at $24.30 while the bag is sold at $48.00 each.

These students may have special needs but WOW! they’ve got so much talent! What better way to raise awareness and support students with special needs. If you’re in awe, like we and Ho Ching are, click on the links and purchase a little something to show your support!
