Escape Reality At These 5 VR Gaming Places In S’pore – Prices From As Low As $12/Hour

vr gaming

The gaming scene is ever-changing, with new gimmicks and gadgets trying their best to immerse us in the game as much as possible.

Today, we even have virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) gaming. For reference, Pokemon Go uses AR technology so it looks like you’re catching that Pidgey in your living room.

While augmented reality gaming is popular, virtual reality is by far the more exciting of the 2.

[caption id="attachment_35854" align="aligncenter" width="4011"]vr gaming Image Credit: Unsplash[/caption]

I personally enjoy virtual reality gaming much more than augmented reality. So here’s a list of the places in Singapore that you and your friends can try virtual reality gaming.

1. V-Room Singapore VR Arcade

V-Room Singapore has the widest range of games I’ve seen so far, for a virtual reality gaming arcade.

[caption id="attachment_35855" align="aligncenter" width="892"]vr gaming Image Credit: VRoom[/caption]

Most VR game centres only have 1 or 2 games but V-Room has an entire library, with various genres to choose from.

From puzzle games, to horror games and shooter games, V-Room has it all.

Every newcomer will have to sign up as a member. It’s mandatory, and there’s a $5 fee to register. But the good news is, the membership is lifetime and the $5 is a one-time charge.

It’s $12 per person per hour on weekdays, and $15 per person per hour on weekends. You can also book a private room though it has to have a minimum of 2 people.

It’s by far the cheapest VR game centre in Singapore, and for a maximum of $15, you have a whole library of games to choose from.

V-Room Singapore VR Arcade
Address: 2 Jurong East Central 1, JCube #02-11, Singapore 609731
Opening Hours: Daily: 11am – 10pm
Contact no.: 6904 4045

2. Clique Gaming

While Clique Gaming is primarily a LAN gaming shop, it also provides many other gaming facilities.

[caption id="attachment_35856" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]vr gaming Image Credit: Clique Gaming[/caption]

And Virtual Reality gaming is one of them. At Clique Gaming, you can book the VR Room that accommodates a maximum of 4 people from $20 per person per hour.

They use the PS4 for VR gaming, so you might even be familiar with some of the games if you own a PS4 console at home.

If you’re playing alone, it’ll be $25 per person per hour on weekdays.

The best part about this is, Clique Gaming operates 24 hours a day, meaning it NEVER CLOSES.

Clique Gaming

35 Selegie Road, ParkLane Shopping Mall #B1-16, Singapore 188307

3. Sandbox VR

Located at level 5 of Orchard Central, Sandbox VR is a great place to go if you’re wandering Orchard/Somerset without a plan.

It uses movie quality, real-time motion capture rigs, which means, every movement of your limbs will be captured in-game.

https://www.facebook.com/discover.sg.official/videos/2547647328794287/

There are 2 games for you to choose from – Deadwood Mansion and Curse Of Davy Jones.

[caption id="attachment_35857" align="aligncenter" width="563"]vr gaming Image Credit: Sandbox VR[/caption]

If you like your zombie first-person shooters, Deadwood Mansion is the one for you, with increasingly overwhelming hordes of zombies.

Each session is about 30 to 45 minutes and will set you back $29 per person off peak, or $40 per person during peak.

4. Virtual Room

Unlike the previous VR gaming spots, Virtual Room is more like a VR escape room, in the sense that it’s team-based rather than solo play.

https://www.facebook.com/singapore.virtualroom/videos/501994736827925/

You and 3 other players will join forces to save the world by travelling back in time to solve puzzles and challenges.

However, the twist here is, each player will be in a different room. So it will take all your skills to cooperate and complete your mission.

The Virtual Room can accommodate up to 22 players at one time.

It’ll cost $44 per person during off peak timings (Mon – Thu until 5pm), if you book online. It will be $49 per person for walk-ins, email, and phone bookings.

Peak hour prices will be $49 for online bookings, and $54 for walk-ins, email, and phone bookings.

9 Fun And Educational Places To Bring Your Kids To That Are Wallet-Friendly

Being a parent is tough. Teaching a child is tough. Looking after a child is tough.

But what if it doesn’t have to be? Don’t worry I’m not trying to sell you anything (fight me, insurance agents).

I’ve compiled a list of places to take your kids that’s both educational and inexpensive. Because honestly, we’re quite done with the zoo, and the rooftop play area at VivoCity.

So parents, aunties, uncles, guardians, LISTEN UP.

Farms

Mainland Tropical Fish Farm

Personally, I love fishes and marine life in general. So I spent a good amount of time visiting fish farms as a child. If you live in the East, then you might want to pay a visit to Mainland Tropical Fish Farm instead.

[caption id="attachment_35325" align="aligncenter" width="960"]Mainland Tropical Fish Farm Image Credit: Little Tree House[/caption]

While the place primarily sells aquarium fishes and supplies, there are activities available for the kids too. Spend a dollar or 3, on packets of food pellets and feed the fishes in the outdoor pond.

For $4, equip your child with a fishing net and a bucket for them to try their hand at catching their very own “longkang” fish! Just make sure they don’t fall in.

Mainland Tropical Fish Farm
Address: 1 Pasir Ris Farmway 1, Singapore 519352
Opening Hours: Daily: 8.30am – 7pm

The Animal Resort Image Credit: @emilymhx[/caption]

You can buy the animal feed from the pet store. No outside food should be brought in.

This App Will Be Your Cheatsheet When Bae Asks You, “Where Should We Go Ah?”

Date Out

Dating is tough these days.

If it’s not a movie date, it’s a dinner and shopping. While there’s nothing wrong with that, sometimes having variety isn’t a bad thing.

After all, variety IS the spice of life. But if you’re fickle or indecisive and cannot seem to make up your mind on what to do, there’s an app to help you with that.

Date Out

While I’m sure that binge-watching seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Netflix is entertaining (it really is. It’s a great series), your partner might not think so.

*cue infomercial music* Getting bored of staying home? Finding it hard to go on interesting dates? Introducing Date Out! This brand new application curates a selection of date activities, unique experiences, and even gift ideas for couples! *cut music*

[caption id="attachment_35192" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Okay, you get the point. So, despite my singlehood, I downloaded the app to check it out, FOR JOURNALISM!

The app has 5 different categories of experiences – Workshops, Sports & Adventure, Personalised Gifts, Intimate Gifts, and Flowers.

[caption id="attachment_35193" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_35194" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

At the moment, only 3 of the categories are populated with experiences. I mean, the app is very new, so give them some time.

Workshops

You can choose from Unicorn Cake workshops for 2, Terrarium workshops, Leather Crafting, and even Friday Night Themed Cooking workshops for 2!

[caption id="attachment_35195" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_35197" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Sports & Adventure

The Sports & Adventure category currently has Go-Karting activities, Segway guided tours, escape rooms, combat saber experience, and many more!

[caption id="attachment_35198" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_35199" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Personalised Gifts

The Personalised Gifts category offers customised stamps, candles, personalised jewellery and even customised wood watches for couples!

[caption id="attachment_35200" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_35201" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

I guess we’ll have to wait for them to find more vendors and update the remaining categories, Intimate Gifts and Flowers.

For those of you wondering what “Intimate Gifts” is going to include, I can only say this, the app asked if I was above the age of 18.

If you purchased a gift or flowers via the app, you will be able to track your orders and see your order history within the app.

The app even tracks your current location and every workshop listed in the app currently, is displayed on the map as a gift box, so you know where to go.

They Didn’t Forget The Singles

Also, while the app is primarily targeted at couples, it can also cater to friends who are looking for unique activities to do in Singapore.

Date Out offers a comprehensive reward system, where regular users can accumulate points and redeem them for tickets or curated events.

Every “experience” you book or gift you buy via the app, will entitle you to 5 Date Out points.

The rewards that are redeemable with Date Out points at the moment include Starbucks vouchers, a pair of Golden Village movie tickets, and Capital Land vouchers.

[caption id="attachment_35202" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Date Out Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Catch The LoL Grand Finals At ASEAN’s 1st E-Sports & Music Festival This Weekend

As a millennial, there aren’t many things that surprise me or even catch my attention. But leave it to MTV to be able to find the perfect combination of activities to turn heads and grasp our attention.

From 4 to 5 August, the Singapore Indoor Stadium will host the very first ASEAN E-Sports and Music Festival, Hyperplay.

[caption id="attachment_35044" align="aligncenter" width="1900"] Image Credit: Hyperplay[/caption]

Organised by MTV and presented by the Ministry of Culture, Community, Youth (MCCY) and National Youth Council, this insane 2-day event will see youths from all 10 countries compete in a strive for glory in the first ASEAN League Of Legends competition.

That’s not all, there will also be a music festival as well as cosplay events happening!

League Of Legends Tournament

One of the biggest components that make Hyperplay is the League Of Legends tournament which sees the best teams in the region pit their skills against each other in a chaotic battle of strategic supremacy and combat skills.

Whether it’s national, regional or international, League Of Legends E-Sports is easily the highest level of competitive play with some of the most active and competitive players and tournaments held in some of the largest stadiums around the world.

The winners of the League Of Legends tournament will receive 6 Razer Blades!

Are you ready?

MTV Spotlight

If E-Sports isn’t really your cup of tea, then how about a music festival with a lineup curated by MTV themselves?

The full lineup of artists have not been announced but here’s who we know will be performing at Hyperplay.

Headliners

CL

If you’re any KPOP fan worth your salt, then you’d have heard of the iconic 2NE1, one of the most popular and successful girl groups in South Korea. And the leader of said group is none other than CL.

Since the disbandment of 2NE1, CL has moved on to become a versatile rapper, vocalist, dancer and songwriter and has also managed to break into the US market thanks to her various collaborations with artists such as Skrillex and Diplo, to name a few.

You might have seen her perform at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics closing ceremony. If you missed it, watch it again below.

Afgan

The first time I saw Afgan in person was back in 2015 at Youtube FanFest Singapore.

If you don’t know who he is, the stylish singer is Indonesia’s crooning heartthrob who has won awards across the region, solidifying him as a crowd favourite in Asia.

Slot Machine

Slot Machine is the undisputed king of Thai rock music with nearly 2 decades of experience in the music industry.

The four-man rock band is known for their stirring rock anthems and poignant narratives. They released their first English album back in 2016, further expanding their audience and fanbase.

The Sam Willows

Singapore’s very own pop sensations, The Sam Willows, will be representing the nation at Hyperplay!

Since the formation of the group back in 2012, they have racked up over 20.2 million streams on Spotify and more than 6 million views on their Youtube channel.

The homegrown band has churned hit after hit, from “Take Heart” to “Keep Me Jealous” and “Robot”. They’ve even opened for Little Mix on their world tour stops in Manila and Singapore.

Nick Jonas

If you know the lyrics to “Burnin’ Up” and “Lovebug”, then you’ll be pleased to know that Nick Jonas will be performing on the MTV Spotlight stage at Hyperplay on Sunday, 5th August 2018.

The American singer-songwriter and actor, also known as one-third of the Jonas Brothers, has sold over 17 million albums worldwide and was nominated for the ‘Best New Artist’ at the Grammys in 2008.

Nick Jonas released his self-titled debut album in November 2014, featuring the triple-platinum and #1 U.S. radio hit, “Jealous” and the sultry chart-climbing radio single, “Chains”.
