Step Aside Pastamania, This Resto Chain Serves Legit Italian Fare For Under $30
Running overtime tonight? That’s not a problem.
At Singapore After Nine, we bring you the scoop on tried-and-tested, late night gems for you to rest your work-weary self.
This time, we’re featuring Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]
Alternatively, enjoy the breeze at the alfresco dining area:
[caption id="attachment_23921" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Here is where you’ll find genuinely good Italian food that doesn’t call for a pound of flesh. They’re generous with their portions, do not scrimp on their cheese (cheese lovers take note) and use fresh, quality ingredients. Read on to see what’s good.
Starters
1. Caesar Salad from the Cheese Wheel Menu ($19++)
[caption id="attachment_23902" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Prepared in a uniquely traditional Italian method right by our table, the salad was tossed in the middle of a 20kg Grana Padano cheese wheel.
[caption id="attachment_23919" align="alignnone" width="871"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]While the salad was being mixed, the server scraped off fluffy cheese from the wheel to add a creamy, sweet-salty zing to the salad. Smoked chicken and light, crispy croutons were the cherry on top. It was such a refreshing accompaniment to our meal, and also doubled as an effective palate cleanser.
2. Wagyu beef carpaccio ($18++)
[caption id="attachment_23904" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish consisted of finely sliced wagyu, topped with fresh rocket leaves and mushrooms, and drizzled with truffle oil. Amidst the bed of rocket leaves lay delicately-shaved pieces of 24-months old Parmesan cheese. All in all, it was a tasty, clean and refreshing dish. There were no hints of fishiness from the beef, which was sweet and tender. The rocket leaves were fresh, and tasted great with the dressing.
3. Oven Baked Eggplant Alla Parmigiana Style ($16++)
[caption id="attachment_23910" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish of eggplant gratin proved to be a delicious, well-executed twist on the popular potato gratin. Baked to a pleasing softness without being overly mushy, the eggplant pieces were doused in a tomato-herb based sauce that had more flavour and depth than regular pasta sauce.
While potatoes might have weighed the dish down, the eggplant added a lighter touch that was delightfully refreshing. We bet you’ll love the chewy golden Parmesan crust atop the eggplant base. It was generously thick and stringy, and crispy at the edges.
Pizza
4. District 10 Pizza ($19++)
[caption id="attachment_23905" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish was the highlight of the night. The pizza arrived warm and toasty, brimming with the aroma of a good ol’ stone oven. The crust was fluffy and so chock full of ingredients that it bent under their weight when we tried to pick up the pizza slices. The Pancetta ham was smoky and savoury, its fatty juices adding a flavour burst in every bite. Refreshing zucchini pieces were thoughtfully added to counter the richness of the ingredients, which included a sunny side up egg and mushrooms.
Pasta
5. Spaghetti Carbonara with Black Truffle ($24++)
[caption id="attachment_23908" align="alignnone" width="871"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish was another one of our favourites. Al dente pasta coated with creamy carbonara sauce and infused with truffle – what’s not to like? The dish arrived with a sprinkling of finely-shaved black truffle, and a perfectly poached egg that oozed golden yolk.
6. Homemade Angel Hair with Live Lobster, Chilli, Basil and Fresh Tomatoes ($34++)
[caption id="attachment_23909" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Looking ever so tempting, this dish no doubt lived up to its appearance. The tomato-based sauce was tangy and appetizing, which made us lose track of how much pasta we were eating. The zesty hit of tomato also went very well with the half-shell lobster, which could have been a tad bit more springy.
7. Warm Lava Chocolate Cake and Vanilla Ice Cream ($14++)
[caption id="attachment_23912" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]All it took was a gentle cut and the chocolate lava flowed like an endless river. Safe to say, this tops our list of chocolate lava cakes. The chocolate flavour was intense and the consistency of the lava was great. It wasn’t too runny, nor was it too thick. The cake itself was moist and fluffy, which was a major plus point.
8. Traditional Italian Tiramisu ($14++)
[caption id="attachment_23996" align="alignnone" width="6000"] Image Credit: Victoinette[/caption]Likewise, the tiramisu was another crowd pleaser. Topped with cocoa powder and garnished with a berry and holly leaves, it looked like Christmas came early. The light cream sat atop a fluffy cake base flavoured richly with coffee, and was not as bitter as some other tiramisus out there.
While District 10 is known for serving up great-tasting Italian fare, its latest outlet at Suntec City specialises in something rather more unique, but equally delicious. There, choose from an ample variety of flavoursome, dry-aged meats that are beautifully marbled and paired off with premium red wine.
Last but not least, what better way to round off the night than with these sweet deals?

Durian Fiesta Is Back With 14 Types Of Durian Dessert You’ll Definitely Want To Try
Durian lovers, durian season comes early this year at the annual Durian Fiesta at Goodwood Park Hotel!
Back for its 34th run, the event celebrates all things durian, giving the King of Fruit the honour it rightly deserves.
This year’s festivities stretches from 10 March to 31 July, boasting a total of 14 premium confections featuring the creamy, pungent fruit as their hero ingredient–specifically those of the Mao Shan Wang and D24 varieties.
While old favourites like the D24 mousse cake, puffs and crepes will be present, 6 brand new creations have also been added to the list.
[caption id="attachment_23735" align="aligncenter" width="800"] D24 puffs ($9/two), available at The Deli[/caption] [caption id="attachment_23734" align="aligncenter" width="800"] D24 Mousse Cake ($11/slice, $65/1kg cake), available at The Deli[/caption]These new creations are made with inventive ingredients like charcoal, sunflower seeds, matcha and even salted caramel–not flavours you typically see mixed with durian!
The result are desserts that are not only easy on the eyes, they’re also exciting and pleasing to the palate.
Look forward to the D24 ‘Starry Starry Night’ Ice Cream Cake, where a charcoal sponge surrounds a dense core of homemade durian ice cream.

The Deli/Min Jiang If you haven’t tried an acai (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) bowl yet, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. And if you have, then you’ll be delighted to know that the newest acai specialty shop on the block has just opened. Get ready for An Acai Affair! Tucked in the heart of Katong (right opposite 112 Katong), An Acai Affair is the two-month-old brainchild of two of Discover SG’s very own ambassadors, Anna and Isabel. They’re on a mission to raise greater awareness about acai and its countless health benefits, by making acai bowls more accessible and affordable to everyone. Acai is truly a crazily healthy treat, perfect for you health nuts out there. This Brazilian superfood lowers cholesterol, boosts immunity, is energy boosting and rich in antioxidants. It’s a tiny berry that packs a big punch, and we wonder why it’s still so underrated in Singapore. At An Acai Affair, the purple acai berries are blended into an ice-cream like texture–essentially ice-cream minus the guilt. It forms the crucial base of all its acai bowl and smoothies. Their acai is also personally sourced, fresh from a Brazilian friend and supplier. The Tropical Coconut bowl has to be the most photogenic acai bowl out there–and that’s saying a lot! It’s their signature too, so be sure to try it. It’s chock full of superfoods: kiwis, pineapples, dragonfruit, strawberries, blueberries, granola, chia seeds, raw cacao nibs, goji berries and coconut shavings galore. The toppings sit atop the chilled acai base, and that makes it super refreshing on a hot day. You can even scrape and eat the coconut flesh at the end. Double win! An Acai Affair’s acai base is unbelievably smooth–you won’t find any graininess at all. Cut daily, the fresh fruits offer a burst of sweetness and texture with every bite. The Acai Chia Parfait is similar to the Tropical Coconut Bowl, ingredient-wise, but with a generous layer of chia seed pudding to boot. The chia seeds balance out the sweetness of the frozen acai, and are loaded with nutrients themselves. Did we mention that An Acai Affair’s acai base isn’t diluted with anything at all? That means it’s a hundred percent smooth and flavourful, without being the least bit icy or watery. While their handcrafted combinations are a sure bet, you can also make sure all your favourite ingredients are in, by ordering from the pick and and mix menu. The thirstier of you can also go for the wide selection of smoothies! If you walk all the way into the shop, you’ll also discover a secret outdoor garden, with cushions, pillows and mats aplenty. Tuck into your yummy acai bowl in this cosy outdoor garden. It’s perfect for chill nights and hearty conversations, and of course as the prettiest backdrop for your photos. You can even come in the evening to catch movie screenings here on some weekends! You’ve probably noticed the abundance of gyms and yoga studios around Katong. But what’s exercise without healthy food alternatives? That’s what An Acai Affair is here for. They’ve partnered with surrounding gyms – flashing your gym pass gets you discounts! Living a healthier lifestyle has never been so easy. The interior of the shop was also lovingly designed by the owners themselves, as are the acai bowl combinations. Chow down your acai by the hand-painted wall for personal, cosy vibes all around. Ready to have an affair with acai? Gorging on one of these light and refreshing acai bowls from An Acai Affair will leave you feeling satisfied and good inside, without the bloatedness and guilt. If you think that something good for you definitely won’t taste good, then eating your own words has never been more delicious.
