One of my favorite places to go for dinner with my friends, New Station Snack Bar, is best known for its Salted Egg Yolk Pork Ribs. This hole-in-the-wall shop is usually crowded so be prepared to squeeze with others. It’s worth it though, the Salted Egg Yolk Pork Ribs Rice ($6.00) had me licking my plate. The sauce was amazing and the chili padi adds a pleasant spicy zest. New Station Snack Bar A foodcourt-esque experience, Tangs Market is unique because you can order your food, find a table, and wait for your number to flash on the display. No more waiting in line, ugh! Dig in to the famous 85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles at ($4.00) a bowl, which comes with 5 huge signature fishballs. Also, sink your teeth into the popular Penang Char Kway Teow ($5.00) which is simply yums! Tangs Market The specialty Beer-Battered Fish & Chips ($7.90) offered here really gives other places a run for their money. For that insanely reasonable price, you’d get 2 juicy and aromatic fish fillets served with a side of crispy chips! If seafood is your thing, try the Seafood Combo ($9.90), which comes with 1 Fish Fillet, 2 pieces of Shrimp and 3 pieces of Calamari. Happy fishing! Fisherios Although there are many outlets, the original is located right here in the heart of Orchard! At ($7.40), the signature Ayam Penyet set comes with an enormous succulent deep-fried chicken, rice, some vegetables, and my personal favorite, the sambal chili sauce. The highlight of this meal is really the chili sauce, which is fiery spicy yet addictive. Did I mention it was free flow? Ayam Penyet Ria Astons never fails to deliver. With generous servings at an affordable price, this franchise store is one of my go-tos for casual Western fare. For $9.90, savor their range of grillworks chicken ranging from many mouthwatering flavors such Chargrill, Black Pepper, Hickory BBQ to Lemon Lime. It also comes with a choice of 2 sides! Aston Specialties This place is very popular among students for its low-cost student meals ($6.40), which comes with a choice of pasta or baked rice from the menu, ice lemon tea, and an ice cream. I had the pleasure of meeting local celebrity-chef and owner Benny Seetoh, who is quite a personality. His signature dish, the Heart Attack Fried Rice ($8.90), is to die for.
