These Lava Toasts From The Bakery Chef Will Surely Make You Drool

We’ve tried Salted Egg Yolk Xiao Long Bao, Salted Egg Yolk Croissants, and Salted Egg Yolk Lava Cheese Tarts (Prima Deli)… and now introducing Lava Toasts (Charcoal and Matcha) that ooze out salted egg yolk when you cut it open. If you don’t go ‘oooh’, we don’t know what does.

Served at The Bakery Chef at Bukit Merah, this honey-glazed Charcoal toast rose to international fame when publishing site INSIDER food featured a video of the toast. To date, there are over 16,000 shares and close to 5,000 comments on the video. We can see why so many people are sharing it. Just look at the sticky and creamy salted egg yoke lava… it sure looks delish!

On top of salted egg yolk lava, the signature charcoal toast is also available with Nutella filling! Just imagine a generous portion of the rich and warm hazelnut chocolate oozing from the brioche toast…heavenly.

For those who like a little Japanese touch to their toast, you are also in for a treat. Also on the menu of The Bakery Chef is the Matcha Honey Lava Toast – salted egg yolk Matcha lava paired with a scoop of green tea ice cream. Initially, we thought it was a little odd to combine Matcha and salted egg yolk as together, they can be a little too powering in terms of flavours. Surprisingly they go amazingly well together like a match made in the kitchen.

If you’d like to give this a try, the Lava Toast is available daily from 12pm onwards till 2 hours before closing. However, due to the overwhelming response, their signature toasts are usually sold out WAYYY earlier, even before 3pm! They do not do take aways for this dish and to be fair to everyone, The Bakery Chef does not accept reservations for the toast. Be sure to be there at the right time to avoid disappointment.

Join The Dark Side – 15 Weird Black Dishes In Singapore That Are Actually Edible

Gone are the days when a food turns out black, it means it is chaota (burnt) and inedible.

We daresay that black is the new sexy of food. Yes, it’s oddly attractive, satisfying and somehow even appealing.

The popularity of black coloured food probably began with Squid Ink pasta and maybe Risotto. Now, Squid Ink is widely used for everything edible, even desserts! If you are looking to add some colour (yes black is a colour, and pun unintended) to your palate, why not try some of these lesser known, out-of-this-world black creations?

1. Dolcetto By Basilico

Squid Ink Panini with King Crab and Prawns

We never knew black sandwiches could look so appealing. This Squid Ink Panini with King Crab and Prawns is stuffed with generous servings of crab meat and prawns fillings which complement the warm, slightly crispy bread on the outside.

Squid Ink sandwiches should definitely be a thing!

2. Black Squid Ink Macaron with Mascarpone Cheese and Smoked Salmon

Also, another creative and novel creation is the Black Squid Ink Macaron with Mascarpone Cheese and Smoked Salmon – MUST TRY!

Who says macarons can’t be savoury?

Sounds #craycray but this Squid Ink pasta inspired macaron is weirdly unique yet surprisingly delicious! 😛

3. Black Curry – Image credit: Calvin Timo[/caption]

Your first reaction towards this would probably be a disgusted “Ewww what is this? Engine oil ah?” but let us reassure you. It is food. The Japanese Black Curry tastes rather similar to normal Japanese curry and is perhaps a bit tastier and slightly saltier. Give it a try and soon you will start pouring it generously all over your rice, noodles, chicken, sushi…and probably everything served at Kiseki Japanese buffet. Yumz.

Okay let’s be honest, we would all agree that this just looks like some badly chaota (burnt) fish and looks slightly unappetising. But let’s not judge a fish by its batter. We’re giving The Pipe District credit for its creativity and effort! 🙂

6. Charcoal Battered Onion Rings

If you are trying the Fish & Chips, why not go all black and order their Charcoal Battered Onion Rings as well?
