This New Halal Fried Chicken Joint Serves 3 Levels Of Heat, Cooked With The World’s Spiciest Peppers

Taufik Batisah has grown to become a household name for most Singaporeans. Asides from being the winner of the first season of Singapore Idol, he was every girl’s crush growing up (well, for me at least).

There have been plenty of rumours surrounding the opening of this eatery and the wait is finally over. You can now enjoy Nashville style fried chicken from Chix Hot Chicken.

Can Sing, Can Dance, Can Sell Chicken

Inspired by South America’s love for fried chicken, Chix Hot Chicken specialises in Nashville Style Hot Chicken served with the world’s spiciest peppers. The chicken is served atop a slice of white bread and pickle chips.

The options come in Quarter ($9.90) with a choice of thigh and leg or breast and wing; Half ($18.90) or 3 Whole Wings ($10.90).

You can also choose your spice level – Mild Hotness, Extra Hotness or Insane Hotness.

Now here’s the fun part. If you think you can handle your spice well, try out the “Extra Hotness” level first. The chicken skin is typically rubbed with ground cayenne peppers, however, in this case – ghost peppers.

The Ghost Pepper exploded in popularity on YouTube and other social sites where pepperheads eat whole Ghost Peppers as part of a challenge. The ghost pepper is rated at more than 1 million Scoville Heat Units (SHUs), enough to make a grown man cry.

If you’re someone who knows no fear and thinks, “Aiya, ghost pepper no kick. Give me something crazier.”

Then you’ll love the “Insane Hotness”. The chicken skin is seasoned with Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper, which typically rates at 2 million SHUs.

If you plan on trying this out, then we highly recommend taking an MC from work because God knows what’s that going to do to your intestines. If you’re feeling bored with life and you need something to spice things up, then we dare you to take up the Insane Hotness challenge.

If you’re more of a “no thanks, I’m good without spice” kind of person, you can get the The Original ($9.90, $10.90, $18.90) – buttermilk fried chicken made from a mixture of spices inspired from New Orleans. Your stomach will definitely thank you for this.

You can also enjoy their chicken in a burger form. Their Soul Sliders ($12) comes with a juicy boneless chicken served with slaw, pickles and pink mayo sandwiched between two buttered buns.

Also, if you’re looking for a Sunday brunch date, Chix Hot Chicken serves Chicken and Waffles ($14.90) as well! Do take note that they’re only available on Sundays.

If you’re looking for an eatery to hit up this weekend, then this is the best place to enjoy hearty and delicious fried chicken with your friends.

Who knows, you might even bump into Taufik Batisah while you’re enjoying your fried chicken!

Do note that they’re still in their soft launch phase. They have limited supply every day so you better head down early if you want to get your hands on them. If you’re running out of luck, don’t fret. Chix Hot Chicken will officially open on 19 June which means there’ll be more fried chicken for us to enjoy.

One thing I miss the most about being a kid, is the school holidays.

They’ve at least 3 months of just, NOTHING. 3 months in a year of waking up late, and watching cartoons and playing. Why did I ever want to grow up?

1. Cartoon Network Animate Your Life

Cartoon Network is bringing “Animate Your Life” to Singapore, featuring characters from hit shows –The Powerpuff Girls, We Bare Bears, Adventure Time and Ben 10!

It features an interactive bounce house and oversized plush sculptures that come together to create a multi-sensory experience, transporting participants to a world filled with colour, magic and happy characters.

From 30 May to 19 June, the installation will move across 3 different malls in the East.

Happy Rainbow starts at Tampines Mall from 30 May to 5 June, before moving to SingPost Centre from 6 to 12 June, and finally Bedok Mall, from 13 to 19 June.

To redeem an entry to the Happy Rainbow installation, simply spend a minimum of $30 in a single receipt at the particular mall. The installation is open daily from 11am to 9pm daily.

4. Tinkercademy’s June Holiday Classes

If your kids love robotics and coding and all things tech, then it’s time to take him or her to Tinkercademy.

They conduct classes in coding and digital making in a wide variety of fields such as micro:bit, iOS, Python, Arduino, Node, cyber-security, Unity, and more.

They’re opening holiday classes this June, where beginners can learn the basics of coding and digital making using Bloxels and LittleBits.

There are also robotics classes where you will learn mechanical construction and programming. You can even learn to build your own Minecraft World with Python!

5. Garfield Carnival And Run

7 Free Playgrounds In Shopping Malls To Bring Your Kids To Over The Weekends

Don’t know where to bring your kids to over the weekends? Don’t want to burn a hole in your pocket?

You no longer have to worry as we have a list of FREE playgrounds in shopping malls so you can get your shopping done while the kids can go ham at the playgrounds!

1. Westgate

Westgate Wonderland is what we’d describe as Disneyland for kids. Gear your kid up for this playground as it is touted to be the largest rooftop mall playground in Singapore!

This fantasy garden themed outdoor playground is divided into three playing areas suitable for toddlers and the older kids.

The tallest structure in this playground is a 10 metre tree house that kids can ascend via the criss cross nets inside the tree trunk.

There’s also a small rock climbing wall at the side of this tree house.

The water play area however is the highlight of this playground. You’ll see little water jets sprouting from the ground and even buckets of water that will tip over your kids!

There’s a drying station which is free to use so your kids can dry off easily. Just remember to pack some towels and a change of clothes for your kids!

Trust me, your kids will thank you and call you supermom/superdad for bringing them here!

2. IMM 

This playground at IMM wins hands down for being sheltered. So yay to no sweaty (sort of) kids!

Just like your usual neighbourhood playgrounds, it consists of activity boards, rock climbing walls, slides and balancing beams.

If your kids need to cool off from the heat, this playground has a water play area as well.

This water play area beats any other playground as it boasts a pretty cool water slide and water guns for kids to shoot water at each other with.

So if you’re looking for an alternative playground in the west asides from Westgate, IMM is the perfect choice.

4. VivoCity

VivoCity’s playground boasts play features, water fountains and even trampolines! This playground is popular and often packed with kids over the weekends.

This playground is divided into two playing areas for children of various age groups. There are shorter slides catered for the younger kids whereas the older kids can enjoy climbing ropes and sliding poles.

There is also a wet playing area that will light up in a colourful pattern everyday after 7pm.

Don’t worry parents, there are plenty of shaded sitting area around the playground and eateries when everyone gets hungry from playing.

5. Waterway Point

With so many BTO flats surrounding the Punggol-Sengkang Area, it’s no surprise that the number 1 place for most young parents to bring their kids to is Waterway Point.

Waterway Point has 2 playing areas – Wonderland (indoor playing area) and Happy Park (outdoor playing area).

Adopting an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme, the indoor playing area is catered for the younger ones and best part, it’s air conditioned so mum and dads don’t have to stand in the heat.

The Happy Park is divided into a wet and dry playing area. The tunnel slides are a central feature of the dry area and there are shorter slides catered for the younger ones as well.

The wet area features a small lake with flowing water – perfect for keeping cool in the outdoor heat. There’s also a small section for parents to towel dry their kids and change their clothes after all the playing.

6. Kallang Wave (Singapore Sports Hub)

Bring your kids and beat the heat at the Splash N Surf water park and playground. There’s even a lifeguard on duty so you know your kids will be in good hands as they run wild here!

This water playground features water sprinklers, slides (with different options for children of varying options), fountains, a merry-go-round and pretty much everything else you can imagine.

There’s also a kids pool which is a mini pool with a depth of 0.5m so your little ones won’t be left out!

If you’re willing to pay a small sum to play with your kids, there’s a lazy river where you and your child can float along leisurely. Tickets costs $2 and can be purchased at the Splash N Surf Information Counter.

7. Paragon Shopping Mall

Who would’ve thought there would be a kids playground right smack in Orchard Road. If your kid is getting cranky and you’re busy picking out your Jimmy Choo, let them run around at the playground located on the 5th floor of the mall.

The playground has all the basic playing stations such as slides, tunnels and ride-on horses. It’s not the fanciest playground but it sure is a good pit stop for your kid after all the shopping!
