Hands up if you’ve travelled abroad, gone into an Asian restaurant and seen ‘Singapore Fried Rice’ or ‘Singapore Fried Noodles’ on the menu. I’ve seen it EVERY SINGLE TIME I’ve stepped into an Asian eatery while on holiday. I feel bemused when I see this in the menu, and then I feel disappointed when I can’t seem to find anything that’s ‘Singaporean enough’ on the menu.

Good news for Singaporeans living and travelling to Manilla, you can say goodbye to seeing dishes like ‘Singapore Style Fried Rice’. K.F Seetoh the food connoisseur behind Makansutra, together with established chefs JJ Yulo and Him Uy De Baron (both hailing from Phillipines) are opening up Makansutra Hawkers at SM Megamall, located conveniently in the business district of Manilla.

Serving up some of Singapore’s local favourites, this Singaporean style hawker center covers 14,000 square feet. Makansutra Hawkers houses 12 stalls dishing up your favourite local food! Sitting up to 500 diners this eatery is perfect for a casual meal amongst friends and family.

Serving up local eats like Teochew Kway Chap, Satay and Geylang Lorang 33’s Claypot Rice. If you think you’re going to get unauthentic local food at steep prices, you’re deeply mistaken. K.F Seetoh and partners were keen on keeping the recipes as authentic as possible. Dishes are also pretty affordable, one-meal dishes like Mee Goreng and Chicken Rice are priced between P190 and P200, about S$6.

So if you’re a little homesick and craving for some Kaya Toast or Milo Dinosaur, you know exactly where to head to!
