Happening at 1-Altitude, one of Singapore’s premier bars, Summertime Madness is one beach party that will have you partying till dawn. The fourth edition of this annual affair, Summertime Madness will happen in June over 1 epic weekend.

1-Altitude will be pulling out all the stops at this mini beach-fest. Not only will there be a sand pit with beach toy floats, party-goers will also get the chance to catch roving acts such as LED twirlers.

The theme this year is White Beach, so come decked in white! Bring your flower crowns, sunnies, flip flops, and take your favourite bikini out for a spin!

What’s a party without drinks? The bartenders at 1-Altitude have crafted a cocktail just for this event! Called ‘Summer Splash’, this heavenly concoction is crafted using yuzu, peach puree, fresh lemon juice and Jim Beam citrus–a refreshing cocktail that truly captures the spirit of a beach party!

This Local Instagram Account Is Turning Dabao-ed Hawker Food Into Works Of Art

We Singaporeans love food.

We love eating it, admiring it, taking pictures of it–we love anything and everything to do with food.

If you’ve ever dined at a fancy restaurant, or in fact, tried replicating a famous chef’s recipe at home, you’ll know the world of difference presentation can make.

A simple salad can be transformed into a work of art, depending on how you plate it.

One local Instagram account is reinventing the way we see our humble kopitiam food by re-plating it fine dining style. We have to say, the results are impressive. They also make us very, very hungry.

Dabaogram 

Dabaogram (@dabaogram) is the brainchild of Daren, Josh and Brian, and one mystery chef, who goes by the alias ‘Vanesse’.

At first glance, Dabaogram looks like the carefully curated Instagram account of a fine dining restaurant.

Doesn’t seem too unusual or unique, does it? That is, until you realise these exquisite dishes aren’t from fancy restaurants but from somewhere you would never expect: our neighbourhood kopitiams.

As its name suggests, all the images lovingly (and expertly) curated on Dabaogram were dabao-ed from various local coffee shops and hawker centers. The team then reassembles the dish, before photographing them for the world to admire.

Crafted by hand, with minimal effects and garnishes, Dabaogram manages to transform your run-of-the-mill roasted duck noodle and prawn mee soup into breathtaking works of art.

While the account now has about 34 posts and 150 followers, we’re expecting their follower count to jump to the thousands once Singaporeans catch wind of Dabaogram.

Now, if only we could get the team behind Dabaogram to plate our daily duck rice and char kway teow every time we head out for lunch.

Ultra Singapore Unveils Phase 2 Line-Up: Rich Chigga, GTA & More!

After a long, agonising wait, Ultra Singapore’s Phase 2 line-up has finally been announced, and we have to say, we’re impressed.

While the Phase 1 line-up featured heavy hitters in the EDM scene, including Pendulum, Steve Aoki, and Hardwell, the Phase 2 line-up includes some up-and-comers.

Acclaimed Indonesian rapper Rich Chigga, electronic act GTA, Singapore born and raised MYRNE, and local singer-songwriter Sam Rui will be joining the ranks of the big names slated to perform at this year’s Ultra.

Tickets to Ultra Singapore are priced at $115 USD for 1 Day Tickets and $178 USD  for 2 Day Tickets.

Apple Celebrates Opening Of First Apple Store By Bringing Together Local Creatives To Share Their Skills

Apple fans, the wait is finally over. A date has been set for the opening of Singapore’s first Apple retail outlet–27 May.

It takes some serious skills to capture breathtaking images with just an iPhone.

Local photographer Aik Beng Chia (known in some circles as ABC), will be imparting some of his skills and techniques on how to capture beautiful street photography with nothing but an iPhone. Soon, you’ll be taking epic images that are sure to up your ‘Gram game.

Tech isn’t just for the grown ups. Apple Orchard Road will be holding a Kids Hour, a one-hour workshop of sorts that will see parents and kids shooting their very own movie.

With the help of basic camera techniques, an iPad Pro, iMovie and a whole lot of creativity, kids will get a chance to play actor, producer and director!

A picture is worth a thousand words. While just about anyone can take a picture using an iPhone, Apple wants to help you bring out the best in your photos. Drop in for a 90-minute session as Creatives at Apple share pro tips on getting the most out of your camera app.

Hararu Izakaya Gives Muslims A Taste Of Izakaya Culture For The First Time In S’pore

Hararu Izakaya offers up different seating arrangements, depending on the size of your party and personal preference. Grab a seat at the regular table-and-chair seating, the counter, or our personal favourite, the tatami area.

What’s Cooking?

While the à la carte menu at Hararu Izakya is only available during dinnertime, Hararu Izakaya offers up affordable donburi sets for the hungry lunch crowd. All priced under $15, dig into bowls of Salmon Teriyaki or Tori Karaage that will delight your taste buds!

If you’re looking to indulge in all the dishes Hararu Izakaya has to offer, head down for dinner. The specialties at this halal Japanese spot are the Charcoal Grill and Kushiyaki Skewers.

Pick from a selection of grilled meats like the Unagi Kabyaki and the Hotate Turkey. The sticks are priced from $3.50 to $14.00 and they come in a set of 2–perfect for sharing!

If you’re looking for something a tad more filling, opt for the Beef Nabemono, a Japanese hotpot filled to the brim with beef and vegetables.

With Over 1,000 Stalls, This Year’s Geylang Bazaar Will Keep You Coming Back For More

The month of Ramadhan is a few weeks away and while it holds plenty of cultural and religious significance for Muslims all over the world, that doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t join in on the festivities.

Two cultural events worth checking out every Ramadhan are the annual Hari Raya Light-Up and the Geylang Serai Baazar. This year’s light-up is centred around the cultural and historical aspects of Malay culture.

Hari Raya Light-Up 

This year’s Hari Raya Light-Up will feature a 4.4-metre-tall wau (a kite originating from the Malaysian state of Kelantan), a stage area formed by a 12-metre-wide sampan and decorated arches standing at 13-meters and 9-metres tall.

This year’s light-up stretches over 2.25km, spanning Sims Avenue and Changi Road, and comprises 900,000 LED lights!

This year’s Hari Raya Light-Up will see the addition of a new, temporary exhibition. Housed in a structure modelled after the weaves of a ketupat, the exhibition serves to educate the public about the history of Hari Raya and of the Geylang Serai area.

Geylang Serai Bazaar

The Geylang Serai Bazaar is returning with more than 1,000 makeshift stalls selling both traditional and fusion snacks. Happening from 25 May to 24 June, look out for “poke bowls”, candy floss burritos and “rainbow planet” ice-cream buns.

The annual bazaar spans Geylang Serai market, Joo Chiat Complex and Haig Road. Cultural performances are set to take place every weekend near Kampong Kembangan Community Club. For cultural buffs, catch free screenings of P Ramlee’s films on the big screen.

If you’re a Singaporean (or foreigner) who is keen on getting their hands on some delicious eats, head on down to the Hari Raya Light-Up. Our advice? Bring that portable fan and lots of cash!

13 Reasons Why’s Ross Butler’s Has A Very Surprising Link To Singapore

Unless you’ve been living in a hole for the past few months, you would have noticed plenty of online chatter about two TV shows in particular, 13 Reasons Why and Riverdale.

These two popular dramas have a few things in common: They’re both Netflix Original series, they’re both adapted from popular pieces of fiction (Archie comics FTW) and perhaps most importantly, they feature Ross Butler.

Born 17 May 1990, Ross Butler was born in Singapore to an American father and Chinese-Malaysian mother.

Raised in Virginia, Butler dropped out of Ohio State University and took the leap to move to Los Angeles to begin acting. Butler is no novice when it comes to the acting game. He has had roles in a range of films and TV shows like Disney Channel’s K.C Undercover and popular TV series Teen Wolf.

13 Reasons Why: Zach Dempsey 

Unfortunately for Riverdale fanatics, Ross Butler will not be back for its second season. Fret not, you haven’t seen the last of him just yet! Online chatter has got us hopeful that Butler’s absence from Riverdale’s sophomore season could be due to the possibility of a larger role in 13 Reasons Why.

If you have yet to catch 13 Reasons Why, here’s the lowdown. The popular Netflix Original series starts off with the suicide of Hannah Baker, who leaves behind 13 tapes detailing the 13 reasons why she decided to end her life.

Based on a fiction book by author Jay Asher, the series delves deep into taboo issues faced by teenagers. Themes of sex, drugs, bullying, and the effect we have on the people around us form the backbone of the story.

With a stellar cast and captivating storyline, it’s no surprise that the popular series now has a huge fanbase with a multitude of fan theories coming out of the woodwork.

Ross Butler plays jock Zach Dempsey, who is a good guy at heart with a penchant for hanging out with the wrong crowd. We won’t spoil the rest of the show if you haven’t yet caught the binge-worthy series.

For those of you who have already finished watching the series and are experiencing some serious 13 Reasons Why withdrawals, a second season has been announced! There is no set date or details on season 2 as of yet, so we’re in for a quite a wait before we find out what happens to the students of Liberty High.
