This Tom Yam Hot Pot Lets You Dine Like Royalty With Its Premium Seafood
Love the rich, unique flavours of Thai cuisine? Considering how much Singaporeans love their Thai food, there aren’t many places you can go for some good, authentic Thai fare.
So, imagine our excitement when we found out about Soi Thai Soi Nice! After hearing about their Tom Yam hot pot, we knew we had to have a taste.
[caption id="attachment_25178" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Entrance of Soi Thai Soi Nice[/caption]As its name suggests, Soi Thai Soi Nice is a restaurant serving Thai food.
Located at Alexandra Central Mall, the inside of the restaurant is a sight to behold with plush, red velvet dining chairs, gorgeous artwork on the walls, and a huge chandelier in the middle of the room!
With soft Thai pop music playing in the background, it’s not hard to imagine that you’re actually in Bangkok!
[caption id="attachment_25179" align="alignnone" width="1024"] The team having a grand time chatting up a storm while waiting for the food to arrive.[/caption]It was even harder to believe we were still in Singapore when the food started arriving at our tables!
First up was the Royal Thai Hot Pot ($68.80, for up to 4 pax), the signature dish at this restaurant, and boy did it make us feel like royalty.
[caption id="attachment_25184" align="alignnone" width="1024"] You can’t resist a smile, looking at the Royal Thai Hot Pot.[/caption]This hot pot was an entire culinary experience in and of itself.
Filled to the brim with premium ingredients like crayfish, prawns, mussels, pork belly, enoki mushrooms, sausages, and hard boiled eggs, it came atop a bed of springy noodles, and in a home-made Tom Yam Soup base.
[caption id="attachment_25186" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Royal Thai Hot Pot ($68.80, for up to 4 pax)[/caption]A fun fact we found out was that all the spices and ingredients used at this restaurant are directly imported from Bangkok to ensure authenticity. Also, we heard that their Head Chef, Worawong Phairat (Olay), also waited to have his personal kitchen utensils, woks and knives imported from Bangkok. Talk about attention to detail!
Next up was the Yum Khai Dao (Fried Egg Salad) ($6.80), the Kai Jiao Cha Om (Fried Omelette with Thai herb Cha Om) ($7.80) and the Kho Moo Yang (Grilled Pork Neck) ($9.80) that all came at once – not that we’re complaining.
[caption id="attachment_25187" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Yum Khai Dao (Fried Egg Salad) ($6.80)[/caption]Apparently, Cha Om is a very common Thai herb that can be found pretty much anywhere in Thailand. Our first bite left us speechless. No really, the flavours of the Kai Jiao Cha Om were hard to describe. All we could do was nod enthusiastically when asked if we enjoyed it, and hold ourselves back from licking the plate clean.
[caption id="attachment_25194" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Kai Jiao Cha Om (Fried Omelette with Thai herb Cha Om) ($7.80)[/caption]Next, we tried the Moo Sam Chan Tord (Deep Fried Pork Belly) ($9.80)…
[caption id="attachment_25198" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Moo Sam Chan Tord (Deep Fried Pork Belly) ($9.80)[/caption]…as well as the Chuchee Pla Kra Pong (Curry Seabass Fillet) ($13.80) and the Kung Chuchee (Curry Prawns) ($15.80).
To be honest, by this time, we were so overwhelmed by how delicious everything was, we forgot to take proper pictures of each dish.
Both the Curry Seabass Fillet and the Curry Prawns were super creamy, and were only mildly spicy.
Soi Thai Soi Nice provides dipping sauces with 4 different levels of spiciness: Mild, Spicy, Very Spicy and Extra Spicy. Considering how spicy Thai food can get, we love the fact that you can tailor the spiciness to your own tolerance levels!
The final dish was their Hor Mok Ma Praw Talay (Coconut Seafood Otah) ($12.80).
[caption id="attachment_25202" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Hor Mok Ma Praw Talay (Coconut Seafood Otah) ($12.80)[/caption]For this dish, prawns, squid and otah came served in a coconut husk, alongside bits of soft, sweet coconut flesh. The gentle crunch of the coconut served as a pleasant surprise, in contrast to the other more tender components of the dish. Overall, this dish is definitely one for the coconut lovers.
[caption id="attachment_25205" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Stuffed.[/caption]And finally, dessert! By this time, we were all stuffed, but our second stomachs (yes, we have a second stomach for dessert) were ready the moment dessert arrived.
No Thai meal is complete without Kao Niao Ma Muang (Mango Sticky Rice) ($5.80), but we were certainly surprised to see the ever famous Coconut Ice Cream presented in the same manner in the Kao Niao I-Team (Sticky Rice with Coconut Ice Cream) ($5.80).
[caption id="attachment_25203" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Kao Niao Ma Muang (Mango Sticky Rice) ($5.80)[/caption] [caption id="attachment_25204" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Kao Niao I-Team (Sticky Rice with Coconut Ice Cream) ($5.80)[/caption]
With dessert comes heavy hearts–for it means dinner is coming to an end.
In all, the food here not only looked great but tasted fantastic as well. Coming in perfect sharing portions and boasting a huge array of Thai flavours, it’s definitely a great place to take your friends or the whole family!

Hey there, Singapore After Nine is back with a new find!
Situated just off Clarke Quay, this new gem is located at the peaceful 11 Keng Cheow Road. For those in the know, Stickies Bar has come to be synonymous with 3 things: food, fun and affordability.
It’s a game cafe, diner and bar, all rolled into one – the Holy Grail for lovers of games, food and booze.
While the merry-making usually begins after dark at most bars, Stickies Bar keeps its fires burning round the clock.
[caption id="attachment_24751" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credits: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This means you’ve got a good option for lunch, and a place to chill after the sun goes down. Stickies Bar offers great promotions and dishes up some tasty food, so you don’t go hungry in between shots.
We at DiscoverSG popped in to take a look and lo and behold, it was indeed all fun and games at Stickies Bar.
They’ve got game…
It has a pool table that’s open at all hours, which you can play to no end.
[caption id="attachment_24753" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]There’s also a PlayStation 4, with a huge range of games including Mortal Kombat and FIFA 17. The best thing? Stickies Bar doesn’t charge any user fees!
If darts are more up your alley, dart boards are also on the ready.
What’s a game place without some good ol’ party games? Stickies Bar has a shelf packed full of them including Exploding Kittens, Uno-Jenga, Saboteur, and more! If you’re a sucker for the classics, they’ve even got chess!
[caption id="attachment_24754" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]And finally, how can we do without party favourite, Beer Pong?
[caption id="attachment_24755" align="alignnone" width="1920"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Games aside, we loved how customers could plug their music devices to the speaker system and play their own songs! Blast your favourite tunes and feel right at home with your own jams playing in the background!
Next, we got a taste of what the kitchen had to offer.
What’s for dinner?
1. Appetizer Party Platter (NA)
To start things off, we were served a very special party platter—special because it’s nowhere on the menu. We got to try a mix of cheesy curly fries ($11), popcorn chicken ($11), chicken karaage ($12) and sesame wings ($14).
[caption id="attachment_24756" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]These bites stayed crisp long after they were served and we loved that they didn’t come dripping with oil!
2. Soup of the Day ($4)
The soup of the day when we were there was tomato soup, a rich, tangy soup topped with crisp squares of garlic bread. The tomato flavour was strong, but it was a little too sour for my liking. Then again, if you like your soup with a little more zestiness, this would be it.
[caption id="attachment_24758" align="alignnone" width="2016"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]The soup of the day here is changed up regularly. Some days, they serve the classic mushroom soup, and on other days, they serve a cheesy broccoli soup. As for the others…. We’ll leave you to discover them for yourself!
3. 10-inch 4 Cheese Pizza ($13)
Think you know what a pizza looks like? This thin-crusted wonder will surprise you!
[caption id="attachment_24759" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Topped with a decadent mix of 4 cheeses–mozzarella, parmesan, cheddar, and nacho cheese–this pizza is a serious game changer. The crust was crisp, and there was (surprisingly!) enough crust to balance out all that cheesy goodness. The cheesy flavours were complemented by the additional top-up of turkey ham, and the pizza came lightly seared.
4. Beef Lasagna ($14)
[caption id="attachment_24761" align="alignnone" width="2016"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Beef layered between sheets of pasta, bathed in flavourful bolognese sauce… If that sounds good, it tasted even better. As we sliced our forks through the layers of meat and pasta, they came away with stringy strands of cheese. The pasta could have done with a little more resistance, but hey, we all have our preferences. The dish was served with a salad on the side, drizzled with a yummy homemade sesame dressing.
5. Flamélicious Spicy Chicken Quesadilla ($18)
This Flamélicious Spicy Chicken Quesadilla was the highlight of our night!
[caption id="attachment_24762" align="alignnone" width="2016"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Spicier than Stickies Bar’s waitresses, this dish had us gulping down cups of water in between mouthfuls. Sandwiched within a crispy, toasted quesadilla shell was a generous helping of gooey, stringy cheese and fiery chicken pieces, tender and marinated with 3 secret spices.
Thankfully, the shell managed to stay intact despite the substantial fillings inside it, making it a much less messy affair than it could have been.
Food & Drink Promotions at Stickies Bar
Besides the array of games and facilities, Stickies Bar has some sweet deals you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Considering the quality of the grub here, these promos are the real deal.
If you love your drinks, Stickies Bar has got your back…
[caption id="attachment_24773" align="alignnone" width="665"] Image Credit: Image Credit: Image Credit: Image Credit: Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]With that, Stickies Bar definitely makes it to our list of go-to places after hours, both on weekends and on weekdays.
Westies, you won’t have to travel all the way to town for your Stickies fix soon enough! The bar will be opening its second outlet at Sunset Way in May. For more updates, be sure to follow them on Instagram!
To many more happy hours,

In Need Of A Happy Hour? This ‘Atas’ Food Hall In The CBD Has A Bar That Offers Drinks For Just $5
As they say, old is gold.
This time, Singapore After Nine is casting the spotlight on an oldie but a goodie: Five Square (FIV五 Square) in the busy CBD.
It’ll have you covered from lunch through to dinner and drinks, and with live performances, no less!
[caption id="attachment_25082" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Outside Five Square[/caption]Just like its name, food and drinks here go at the unbeatable rate of $5 each, every hour of everyday.
[caption id="attachment_25107" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Inside Five Square[/caption]Take your pick between dining indoors or out at the alfresco area.
The Bar
Chill out with your pals over sake, wine or beer at just $5 a glass.
To liven up the party, have a go at Five Square’s pool table or dart booths. Sports fans will feel right at home here too, as Five Square often screens games on their large-screen televisions.
Their drink menu features an extensive selection of premium whiskies, a hundred or so different brands of wines, and various labels of icy cold beer.
[caption id="attachment_25085" align="aligncenter" width="2775"] L-R: Kronenbourg 1664 Lager ½ Pint Beer ($5), Mint and Margo Margarita ($15), Lychee Martini ($15), Mojito ($12)[/caption]The Bazaar
Next to the bar is a large, open food hall that can hold a total of 300 diners. Home to 5 gourmet food stalls with extensive menus, take your pick from international cuisine ranging from Japanese to Spanish!
[caption id="attachment_25086" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Five Square adopts an open food hall concept[/caption]The dishes are reasonably priced, making them a popular choice for those working in the CBD, and attracting crowds from farther away.
It’s no wonder, as the dishes beat what regular food courts can offer in terms of taste and quality, yet are not as pricey as those in upscale restaurants.
Cinqo Tapas
A take on the popular Five Tapas Bar at Cuppage Terrace, Cinqo Tapas brings on a whole host of palate pleasers.
[caption id="attachment_25105" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Cinqo Tapas[/caption]1. Carbonara Fettucine ($9.90)
This plate of pasta was worth every dollar–and every calorie! We swear we’re not exaggerating when we say we could literally smell the aroma of the smoky prosciutto ham and rich cream while it was on its way out from the kitchen!
[caption id="attachment_25088" align="aligncenter" width="3024"] Carbonara Fettucine[/caption]The fettucine was topped with thinly shaved parmesan slices and a glistening orb of an egg. The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the rich creaminess of the sauce was complemented by the smoky ham, which was chewy and crisp.
[caption id="attachment_25089" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] In loving memory of the Carbonara Fettucine we devoured[/caption]2. Angus Beef Cubes ($12)
[caption id="attachment_25090" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Angus Beef Cubes[/caption]Fried beef topped with a generous smattering of golden sautéed garlic–yum! The beef cubes were well-marinated and packed a punch of flavour. Texture-wise, however, it was a tad too chewy for my preference. Nevertheless, we enjoyed it, and the fresh rocket leaves at the side were a refreshing accompaniment to the meat.
3. Bacon Mushroom ($6)
Springy, juicy mushrooms wrapped in bacon is what this dish is all about.
[caption id="attachment_25091" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Bacon Mushroom[/caption]It was a pity the juices from the mushrooms softened the otherwise crispy bacon. Still, it was a winning combination, as the sweet taste of mushroom offset the savoury flavour of the bacon.
Just Pho Fun
Don’t let that name fool you–this place takes its food seriously.
4. Fresh Summer Roll (2 pcs, $5)
[caption id="attachment_25092" align="aligncenter" width="2816"] Fresh Summer Roll[/caption]Stuffed with vermicelli, fresh prawns, mint leaves and assorted vegetables, these rolls were a delight to crunch into. If the rice paper wrap had been a little bit softer, it would have been perfect. Nevertheless, the sweet-sour chilli dip lent the roll a kick of flavour, and was very pleasing on the whole.
5. Dry Vermicelli with BBQ Pork ($10)
[caption id="attachment_25094" align="aligncenter" width="3023"] Dry Vermicelli with BBQ Pork[/caption]The texture of the noodle was good, and the accompanying sweet-spicy-sour sauce was thoroughly interesting on the taste buds. However, the pork leaned slightly on the dry side and could have been more tender. A generous shower of ground nuts, fried shallots, and freshly julienned carrots and turnips added some colour to the dish and was the perfect way to round it off!
6. Rice Noodles with Sliced Beef Soup ($10)
[caption id="attachment_25095" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Rice Noodles with Sliced Beef Soup[/caption]The rice noodles were cooked to just the right degree of springiness, and the beef slices were cooked to tender perfection. The soup was less savoury than we had hoped, but well-flavoured nevertheless!
[caption id="attachment_25097" align="alignnone" width="2445"] Free mango salad![/caption]As a bonus, with each main dish ordered at this stall, you get a free mango salad!
Teppei
A branch-off of its renowned parent outlet at Tanjong Pagar, this stall at Five Square serves equally good grub.
[caption id="attachment_25102" align="aligncenter" width="2151"] Teppei[/caption]Without missing a beat, it continues to spread chef Teppei’s legacy in the form of top-notch taste, quality and affordability.
7. Kaisendon, Seafood Donburi ($16)
[caption id="attachment_25098" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Kaisendon, Seafood Donburi[/caption]The cubes of salmon and tuna sashimi were fresh and tender, well-marinated and flavourful.
Small chunks of sweet scallop were nestled in the middle of the sashimi pyramid. Along with the tobiko, which exploded with savoury goodness with every bite, they went perfectly with the Japanese rice. A lick of wasabi to the side of the dish cleared our palate in between mouthfuls.
8. Seared & Salmon Sashimi, Seafood Donburi ($16.80)
This was really, really good.
[caption id="attachment_25099" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Seared & Salmon Sashimi, Seafood Donburi[/caption]The salmon sashimi was fresh and chopped into thick slices. Marinated with what tasted like a mixture of soy sauce and mirin, it was the perfect balance of sweet and savoury.
The seared salmon, on the other hand, had just the right amount of smokiness to it. Even though we were too full to eat all the rice, we devoured every single bit of the salmon.
The Grill Knife (Western)
An offshoot of The Soup Spoon, The Grill Knife also offers nutrition-packed meals made with fresh ingredients, paired with their delicious homemade sauces.
9. Chicken Combo ($13.80)
Grilled over high heat, the chicken thigh was tender and moist, as were the Bratwurst sausages.
[caption id="attachment_25100" align="aligncenter" width="2880"] Chicken Combo[/caption]As the saying goes, the more the merrier! This was true of the Herbivore salad that came with more than 5 different vegetables! Our only gripe was that the fried wanton skins that came with the salad could have been crispier. Apart from that, this dish was a tasty balance of protein and fibre.
Gogibox (Korean)
The Gogibox offers a unique twist on Korean cuisine, with the Gogi Taco ($6.80), and the Gogi Dog ($6.80).
[caption id="attachment_25101" align="aligncenter" width="550"] Image Credit: ckchai.blogspot[/caption]It also sells bentos such as the Gogi Plate above ($8.50). Take your pick from fried rice, 8 different choices of meat and a salad. Unfortunately, we did not manage to sample food from the Gogibox as it was closed, but we will definitely be back to get some!
All things considered, Five Square is definitely a top contender on our list of chill out spots. Not only does it provide affordable food and drinks with great taste and quality, it’s also conveniently situated near the workplaces in the CBD.
It’s never too late for food and drinks at Five Square. Supper, anyone?
Cheers to the next round of great food and beer,

Nothing To Do In Tiny S’pore? This Bank Is Making It Its Mission To Bring More Life Here
Singapore is a lot of great things: a safe country, a technologically advanced nation, a country with THE best food in the world—to us Singaporeans, at least. But a place with plenty of fun, exciting things going on all the time, well… That’s debatable.
A Livelier Local Scene
That being said, things here have come a LONG way over the last couple of years.
One of the key parties to thank for breathing this fresh life into the local scene is—you won’t guess it—DBS bank.
The bank has made it its mission to bring new, unique and exciting experiences to our little red dot, and specifically to the Marina Bay area.

Dubbed “Singapore’s Biggest Bayfest”, the sixth edition of DBS Marina Regatta will see The Bay receiving a tremendous makeover, transforming into Singapore’s only urban beach.
Come June this year, Bali’s famed Potato Head beach club will bring their beloved Coconut Bar to Singapore for the first time, and with it, their signature coconut cocktails and beers so you can beat the Singapore heat! You can even lounge on hammocks with an icy cold bottle of booze in hand!
To cool off even more, you can challenge yourself—and your friends!—to an epic inflatable water obstacle course! Featuring 9 obstacles of varying difficulties, see if you have what it takes to get from point A to point B.

This Korean Cafe Serves Pork Ribs Wrapped With Stringy Cheese – And It’s Grate
Ever lamented the need to travel to a separate cafe for a decent Korean Patbingsoo (red bean shaved ice), because the Korean restaurant you’re at doesn’t serve desserts?
Now you can have the best of both worlds at Patbingsoo Korean Dining House, and at incredibly affordable prices!
[caption id="attachment_24724" align="alignnone" width="828"] Patbingsoo Korean Dining House entrance[/caption]Located at Basement 2 of Plaza Singapura, where the old aquarium shop used to be, Patbingsoo Korean Dining House features an impressive array of both the sweet and the savoury. Opened in December last year, the restaurant prides itself in flavours inspired by the food streets of Seoul, adapted to local tastes.
[caption id="attachment_24726" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Spoiled for choice![/caption]This restaurant knows exactly what its customers want, providing us 2 full pages of fold-out Bingsoo menu items, and unique, fusion dishes.
That means dishes like Tteok Carbonara, Patbingsoo Buritos, and Seafood Sundubu Pasta!
[caption id="attachment_24728" align="alignnone" width="1024"] A teaser of what you can eat here[/caption]During our visit, we decided to stick with the more classic flavours in an attempt to transport ourselves to Seoul.
We started off with some alcoholic beverages: the Lychee Makkoli, Green Tea Soju, and the Grape Yoghurt Soju ($11.90).
[caption id="attachment_24729" align="alignnone" width="1024"] L-R: Lychee Makkoli, Green Tea Soju, Grape Yoghurt Soju[/caption]If you prefer your alcohol sweet, these are perfect for you!
More importantly, they pair really well with the Spicy and Honey Garlic Chicken Wings, our first appetisers of the day.
[caption id="attachment_24711" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Lychee Makkoli + Honey Garlic Chicken Wings = THE BOMB[/caption] [caption id="attachment_24730" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Honey Garlic Chicken Wings on the left, Spicy Chicken Wings on the right[/caption]The smell of the roasted garlic hits you first, before suffusing your taste buds with its sweet, garlicky flavours. As for the Spicy Chicken Wings, they’re great even if you’re not too good with spices. Strong aromas with none of the pain!
Next up was the Fried Samgyeopsal ($6.90), deep fried pork belly slices served with a vibrant honey mustard dipping sauce.
[caption id="attachment_24715" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Look at the colour of that honey mustard![/caption]Crispy and peppered with a world of seasoning, this sinful pleasure was able to mask its unhealthiness by leaving out that overly greasy taste fried food tends to have.
Next up was the restaurant’s signature dish: The Rolling Cheese Pork Ribs ($38.90)!
[caption id="attachment_24716" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Rolling Cheese Pork Ribs[/caption] [caption id="attachment_24732" align="alignnone" width="768"] Everyone couldn’t stop staring as our waiter wrapped the pork rib with cheese. No one can resist that cheese pull![/caption]One of the more expensive items on the menu, this dish can be shared by anywhere between 2 to 4 people, depending on how many ribs you’re willing to sacrifice.
That’s because once you’ve taken a bite of this tender, sweet and spicy marinated pork rib that’s been lovingly wrapped in a mix of melted cheddar and mozzarella, you’ll want them all to yourself!
Couple that with a whole array of sides such as cream corn, potato chips, pineapple slices and fries, plus a generous serving of the best garlic mayo I have ever tasted, and you’ve got yourself a meal fit for a king!
[caption id="attachment_24731" align="alignnone" width="1024"] A mixture of sides[/caption]Next, we moved on to the House Special Ramyeon ($11.90). At this point, we were starting to get full, but the moment the piping hot, spicy ramyeon came to our table, our appetites were whet all over again.
[caption id="attachment_24718" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Can you say “love at first sight”?[/caption]With a creamy, eggy broth that wasn’t too spicy, this yummy ramyeon disappeared as quickly as it appeared. That’s another thing about Patbingsoo Korean Dining House: their service was extremely quick! We barely had to wait before each dish arrived, and their service was polite and incredibly helpful.
At last, our final savoury item made its appearance: the Dynamite Spam ($11.90).
Spam is a staple of many Korean dishes, such as the classic Army Stew. Brought into South Korea during World War II, it was often smuggled back home from army bases as a treat. One mishmash of Korean stews and spam later, it is now a nation-wide beloved food item.
Patbingsoo Korean Dining House serves their spam with several slivers of raw onion, a generous serving of gochujang mayo and several seaweed rice balls. This is then torched right at your table, leaving you with an intoxicating flavour that ruins regular mayo for you from here on.
At first bite, you’ll immediately notice the sharp tang of the raw onion, before it is blanketed by the tangy, torched gochujang mayo sauce. The seaweed is very fragrant as well, helping to tie everything together in an umami bomb of flavour.
After all these savoury, carb- and protein-heavy dishes, we were more than ready to cleanse our palates with some sweet treats.
We were graciously provided with 2: The Incheon Bingsoo ($11.90) and the Hoegi Patbingsoo ($10.90).
The Incheon Bingsoo is shaved ice with tiramisu coffee, rum and coffee ice cream. Definitely a must for tiramisu lovers, this Bingsoo was extremely light as well.
[caption id="attachment_24721" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Incheon Bingsoo[/caption]The mascarpone was light and fluffy with a hint of coffee, and the lady finger biscuits provided a nice crunch.
As for the Hoegi Patbingsoo, it came with fruits, jelly, red bean and red bean ice cream, all on top of shaved ice.
[caption id="attachment_24722" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Hoegi Patbingsoo[/caption] [caption id="attachment_24723" align="alignnone" width="1024"] I’d be lying if I said the best part was anything but pouring on that evaporated milk[/caption]For those of you who typically eat fruits after a meal, you’ll be ecstatic with this Bingsoo as it comes with strawberries, mango, grapes and honeydew. It’s also a more classic version of Bingsoo, with a nice dollop of sweet red beans under a scoop of ice cream.
(P.S. That’s what the ‘Pat’ in Patbingsoo means: Red Beans!)
Overall, we had an amazing time trying out just a small selection of their huge menu. Insanely affordable with amazing quality food, this is one place I’m definitely going to make a regular dinner spot.

Edible Helium Balloons Are Coming To Central Perk So You And Your F.R.I.E.N.D.S Can All Sound Like Chipmunks
If you’ve had any kind of childhood at all, there’s one thing you’d probably have done as a kid: breathe helium from a balloon and tried talking after it. Whether you have done it yourself or watched someone else do it on YouTube, it’s ALWAYS hilarious.
For those of you who’ve never had this sacred childhood experience, now you can with EDIBLE Helium Balloons. Yep, that’s helium balloons are not only safe, but delicious to eat.
This latest addition to the menu at Singapore’s own FRIENDS-themed cafe, Central Perk, was inspired by a dish at 3 Michelin starred ‘Alinea’ in Chicago. The brainchild of one of its co-owners, Grant Achatz, it’s been touted as one of the coolest desserts in America!
This would be its first ever appearance in Asia.
[caption id="attachment_24415" align="aligncenter" width="694"] The Edible Helium Balloon was created by the co-owner of a 3 Michelin starred restaurant in Chicago, ‘Alinea’[/caption]As with most of Central Perk’s food and drink offerings, every dish has a FRIENDS-related story behind it. This dessert draws inspiration from this particular episode of the beloved sitcom:
[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtA4jNrKVSQ[/embed]Coming in 3 flavours–strawberry (red), banana (yellow) and blueberry (blue)–these edible balloons each come attached to a chocolate stick.
So, how do I eat this? Simply put your mouth to the balloon and suck in the helium! Talk, laugh, sing, do whatever you want with your newfound chipmunk voices! You’re sure to have a blast with your friends.
We headed down to Central Perk to have a taste of their newest dessert. Here’s a sneak peek!
[caption id="attachment_24836" align="alignnone" width="750"] Jessie trying out the edible helium balloon[/caption]Our ambassador, Jessie, had a few turns at the bubble-like dessert. Bringing back memories of the plastic bubbles we used to blow, pop and play with as kids, we found that this dessert was a lot more delicate.
https://youtu.be/k6oMofTzins
The effects of the helium didn’t last very long, just 3-5 seconds before leaving us with sticky, sweet remnants. We were also served a deconstructed Nutella cake along with the helium balloon.
[caption id="attachment_24837" align="alignnone" width="750"] Deconstructed nutella flavoured cake[/caption]Bite-sized Nutella cake served atop a scoop of frozen yoghurt and chocolate syrup – we were disappointed to find that the Nutella cake hardly tasted of Nutella. Instead, it tasted like your regular chocolate cake, although we were surprised to find that the frozen yoghurt gave the dessert a kick of tartness.
In every other bite we took, we found tiny sticky pieces of candy which gave the dessert a surprising element!
This fun, wacky dessert will be available from the 2nd week of April onwards, although prices are currently unavailable. Do watch this space for more information!

[caption id="attachment_23921" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Here is where you’ll find genuinely good Italian food that doesn’t call for a pound of flesh. They’re generous with their portions, do not scrimp on their cheese (cheese lovers take note) and use fresh, quality ingredients. Read on to see what’s good.
Starters
1. Caesar Salad from the Cheese Wheel Menu ($19++)
[caption id="attachment_23902" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Prepared in a uniquely traditional Italian method right by our table, the salad was tossed in the middle of a 20kg Grana Padano cheese wheel.
[caption id="attachment_23919" align="alignnone" width="871"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]While the salad was being mixed, the server scraped off fluffy cheese from the wheel to add a creamy, sweet-salty zing to the salad. Smoked chicken and light, crispy croutons were the cherry on top. It was such a refreshing accompaniment to our meal, and also doubled as an effective palate cleanser.
2. Wagyu beef carpaccio ($18++)
[caption id="attachment_23904" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish consisted of finely sliced wagyu, topped with fresh rocket leaves and mushrooms, and drizzled with truffle oil. Amidst the bed of rocket leaves lay delicately-shaved pieces of 24-months old Parmesan cheese. All in all, it was a tasty, clean and refreshing dish. There were no hints of fishiness from the beef, which was sweet and tender. The rocket leaves were fresh, and tasted great with the dressing.
3. Oven Baked Eggplant Alla Parmigiana Style ($16++)
[caption id="attachment_23910" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish of eggplant gratin proved to be a delicious, well-executed twist on the popular potato gratin. Baked to a pleasing softness without being overly mushy, the eggplant pieces were doused in a tomato-herb based sauce that had more flavour and depth than regular pasta sauce.
While potatoes might have weighed the dish down, the eggplant added a lighter touch that was delightfully refreshing. We bet you’ll love the chewy golden Parmesan crust atop the eggplant base. It was generously thick and stringy, and crispy at the edges.
Pizza
4. District 10 Pizza ($19++)
[caption id="attachment_23905" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish was the highlight of the night. The pizza arrived warm and toasty, brimming with the aroma of a good ol’ stone oven. The crust was fluffy and so chock full of ingredients that it bent under their weight when we tried to pick up the pizza slices. The Pancetta ham was smoky and savoury, its fatty juices adding a flavour burst in every bite. Refreshing zucchini pieces were thoughtfully added to counter the richness of the ingredients, which included a sunny side up egg and mushrooms.
Pasta
5. Spaghetti Carbonara with Black Truffle ($24++)
[caption id="attachment_23908" align="alignnone" width="871"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]This dish was another one of our favourites. Al dente pasta coated with creamy carbonara sauce and infused with truffle – what’s not to like? The dish arrived with a sprinkling of finely-shaved black truffle, and a perfectly poached egg that oozed golden yolk.
6. Homemade Angel Hair with Live Lobster, Chilli, Basil and Fresh Tomatoes ($34++)
[caption id="attachment_23909" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]Looking ever so tempting, this dish no doubt lived up to its appearance. The tomato-based sauce was tangy and appetizing, which made us lose track of how much pasta we were eating. The zesty hit of tomato also went very well with the half-shell lobster, which could have been a tad bit more springy.
7. Warm Lava Chocolate Cake and Vanilla Ice Cream ($14++)
[caption id="attachment_23912" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Image Credit: Chong Yi Sze[/caption]All it took was a gentle cut and the chocolate lava flowed like an endless river. Safe to say, this tops our list of chocolate lava cakes. The chocolate flavour was intense and the consistency of the lava was great. It wasn’t too runny, nor was it too thick. The cake itself was moist and fluffy, which was a major plus point.
8. Traditional Italian Tiramisu ($14++)
[caption id="attachment_23996" align="alignnone" width="6000"] Image Credit: Victoinette[/caption]Likewise, the tiramisu was another crowd pleaser. Topped with cocoa powder and garnished with a berry and holly leaves, it looked like Christmas came early. The light cream sat atop a fluffy cake base flavoured richly with coffee, and was not as bitter as some other tiramisus out there.
While District 10 is known for serving up great-tasting Italian fare, its latest outlet at Suntec City specialises in something rather more unique, but equally delicious. There, choose from an ample variety of flavoursome, dry-aged meats that are beautifully marbled and paired off with premium red wine.
Last but not least, what better way to round off the night than with these sweet deals?

Unconventional Valentine’s Date Night Ideas For Couples Who Are Tired of Clichés
If 11 November (11.11) is the day for singles, then 14 February is the day for couples, and with it comes a whole slew of shopping opportunities. Valentine’s Day in Singapore is not something to be trifled with, and we have the stats to prove it.
In February 2015, a Groupon survey done on 20,694 of its global subscribers found that Singaporeans are among the top 3 spenders for Valentine’s Day, with .
That’s a lot of money, and apparently, most of it is channelled towards experiences, rather than the conventional dinners and flowers. So, we took the liberty of compiling a list of unconventionally interesting Valentine’s gifts that you and your partner will enjoy.
1. Be My (Foodie) Valentine
[caption id="attachment_24484" align="alignnone" width="700"] Chope[/caption]Valentine’s Day tends to be rather headache-inducing when it comes to making restaurant reservations. Booking last minute can burn a veritable hole in your budget, or end up with dinner at a fast food restaurant.
GuavaPass is a startup that connects you to gyms and fitness studios all over the world. For the couple afraid that all the Valentine’s chocolates would add a few more pounds, or for those who enjoy working out together, this is the gift for you.

The second great thing about the GuavaPass is that it helps you shed all those chocolate pounds, as well as give you that healthy glow.
3. Be My (Beauty) Valentine
[caption id="attachment_24486" align="alignnone" width="768"] Amaris B. Clinic[/caption]All the chocolates and dining out might not be good for the skin, so after a decadent meal, or even as a post-workout downtime for the both of you, how about a facial? And I don’t mean one of those animal print masks either. No, I’m talking more about a decadent experience to share with your partner.
The Amaris B. Clinic features several skin treatments for both 4. Be My (Adventure) Valentine [caption id="attachment_24487" align="alignnone" width="768"] bemyguest[/caption]

A good option for ladies to consider, if you’re not the GuavaPass type of person, but are the type to worry about what all the holiday snacking will do to your body is Amaris B. signature fat reduction and body contouring treatment: Vaser Liposelection (VASERlipo). This is the Vulcan Post.
