Damn, Discover SG! Back at it again with the food lists!

1. Nakhon Kitchen

The Nakhon Kitchen chain and Thai food has been synonymous. You just can’t separate the two. Offering killer prices with consistently good authentic food, it’s hardly any wonder why there are long queues almost every day. The best part, no GST and service charge!

3. The Burning Oak

The Bedok Marketplace is a very “atas” hawker center, so there are no surprises here that the food would also get the same pharaonic treatment. Follow the aroma of searing meat to the Burning Oak, a rustic yet modern food joint serving charcoal grilled Yakitori. Mouth-wateringly delicious, you’ll never go back to Tori-Q again.

5. Sarah’s The Pancake Café

Good news to the Muslim pancake-loving community, this is a halal pancake restaurant (wow!). Sarah’s is home to fluffy brown pancakes, tasty crepes, and delectable pastas. But what’s so special about this place? Well, cafe owner Alina spices up the menu with local flavours using ingredients such as Gula Melaka, Otah, and Red Bean Paste.

6.To-gather Café

Don’t you just love it when cafes start springing up in our heartlands? As compared to the town area, rental prices are kept much lower at heartlands so cafes are able to charge lower prices (to the delight of foodies). Speaking of low prices, To-gather is a no GST (yes lah!) food joint serving foodgasmic Western delights and artisanal coffee. Hurray to penny pinchers!

7. Refuel Café

The last café in this list, Refuel boasts a casual vibe with plenty of natural sunlight for that perfect Instagram shot. I use ‘affordable’ a lot (hey, who can blame me when it’s true!), so I’ll change my tune by saying that the food menu is value-for-money. For a wholesome and hearty meal, look no further.

Must try: Full Tank ($13.90);

8. Pin Xiang Chicken Rice

It’s hard to miss this one, for this chicken rice stall generates a bustling long queue during lunch and dinner hours. The stall is true to its name (Pin Xiang means fragrant in Mandarin) with both the rice and chicken being extremely well prepared. I would consider this to be one of the best chicken rice stalls in Singapore.

9. Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian

The highlight of this humble list and one of my favourites of all-time, Xing Ji Bak Chor Mee is like seriously out of this world! The 30-45 minutes wait is well worth it. There’s only a soup version but the soup/broth is rich and immaculate. It outshines the meatballs and noodles by a mile. Tip: order more than 1 bowl.

10. Inspirasi Stall

Inspirasi is a Muslim hawker stall that is well-known with Bedok residents. Here, you can find the legendary Soto Ayam dish, which according to word-of-mouth, is the best in Singapore. Despite winning many awards, prices are still kept low while the food remains scrupulously prepared. Inspirasi is truly inspiring (sorry, I had to).

Rise Of The Rice Bowls – 9 Bowls That Taste As Good As They Look

They say that a square meal is a nourishing and balanced one that contains enough ingredients and nutrients to satisfy the body. But with the rise of restaurants serving a comprehensive rice bowl fit for a king, you’ll soon be agreeing that circular meals are exactly what you need right now.

From the delightfully delicious ingredients to the delicate crockery that house them, rice bowls makes for an easy and wholesome meal that’s easy on the eyes and stomachs. Here’s our list of some of the prettiest rice bowls we could find.

1. MAY MAY

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BCU9cHpwIoy/[/embed]

I run the risk of sounding lame but the first thought that came to my mind is ‘this place very chio’. And you’ll see where I’m coming from once you’ve had a meal there. Natural lighting and living wall facade adorns the minimalistic space, and everywhere you turn is an Instagram spot. But the real star is their lunchtime rice bowls. Opt for the Butter Poached Cod ($18), where tender smooth pieces of cod lie in the midst of wakame, oven roasted tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, pickled lotus root, wasabi sprouts, soft centred egg – the result is a kaleidoscope of colours that’s almost too pretty to eat.

MAY MAY
Address: 65 Tras Street
Opening hours: Mon – Sat: 11:30am – 3pm, 6:30pm – 11pm

2. Ninja Bowl

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BD8C_obw6hl/[/embed]

Perhaps the reason why the restaurant is named ‘Ninja’, other than its obvious Japanese influence, is the speed at which you’ll find yourself swiftly clearing the contents of your rice bowl. These hearty and affordable rice bowls come loaded with various protein and a slew of healthy greens, making them a great meal option. The Kabuki bowl ($14) is a safe option with seared honey chicken leg, baby corn, pickled beets, an onsen egg and bean sprouts that come together harmoniously in your mouth.

Ninja Bowl
Address: 15 Duxton Road
Opening hours: Mon – Fri: 9:30am – 7:30pm; Sat – Sun: 9am – 6pm

3. Aloha Poké

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/9EL-Nlr5AH/[/embed]

The funky name reflects the brand’s ethos – bringing fun and fresh Hawaiian flavours into Singapore. They specialise in poké, which for the uninitiated, is a traditional Hawaiian dish where raw seasoned tuna is tossed with sesame seeds, sweet onion and scallions. Served with fresh salad greens, squeeze the wedge of lime provided to awaken the fresh tropical flavours of this dish. This light meal (from $11.90) makes for a great healthy lunch option for all sashimi lovers out there.

Aloha Poké
Address: 92 Amoy Street
Opening hours: Mon – Sat: 11:30am – 2:30pm, 5:30pm – 11pm

4. Tendon Ginza Itsuki

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BB34RvdvBlk/[/embed]

The snaking queue outside this eatery in Tanjong Pagar is testament to the popularity of its tendon – a one-bowl soul food filled with various ingredients deep fried to a delectable golden brown. Step inside and you’ll see most people indulging in their Special Tendon Set ($13.90), where prawns, chicken and vegetables are prepared tempura style. Don’t forget the oozing tempura half-boiled egg that’ll make for a great sauce coating. This might sound like an indulgent bowl of fried food, but you’ll have little regrets once you start eating.

Tendon Ginza Itsuki
Address: 101 Tanjong Pagar Road
Opening hours: Mon – Sun: 11:30am – 2:30pm, 5:30pm – 10pm

5. Grain Traders

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BCotL2MOchA/[/embed]

The open interior and open-spaced kitchen makes Grain Traders a welcoming place for a healthy and hearty meal option. Personalise your very own nutritious lunch with their Build-You-Own-Bowl ($16) and choose from the various protein and vegetables that’s freshly prepared in batches. Expect charred furikake corn, seared marinated tuna, apple kimchi and other mouth-watering selections. The only thing you’ll need to worry about is holding up the queue when attempting to choose from their extensive variety.

Grain Traders
Address: 138 Market Street, #01-01/02/03
Opening hours: Mon – Fri: 8am – 8pm

6. Nosh

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BFoiqqvQkMj/[/embed]

I’m thinking that the restaurant aims to provide nourishing food in a posh setting judging from the earthy wooden furnishing and wholesome menu. Don’t be too quick to dismiss the Yakitori Salmon ($24) as yet another Japanese fare. Nosh brings the usual Japanese flavour up a notch with their thick chunk of salmon resting on a bed of sweet coconut rice and topped with vietnamese caramel, creating a salty-sweet dish that’s unlike any brunch item you’ve had before.

Nosh
Address: 9 Rochester Park
Opening hours: Tue – Fri: 11:30m – 10:30pm; Sat – Sun: 10:am – 10:30pm

7. Superbowl

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BETCWnuuUhm/[/embed]

Inspired by donburis, Superbowl is a concept eatery specialising in rice bowls that are outstandingly fresh and delicious. Their Super Fish Bowl ($20) is the ultimate dish for sashimi lovers, where a selection of salmon, tuna, swordfish and scallop sashimi sits comfortably above a bed of short-grain rice and crowned with a spoonful of fish roe.

Superbowl
Address: 8 Circular Road
Opening hours: Mon – Fri: 11:30am – 3pm

8. The Refinery

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/BFQEIjNMJTQ/[/embed]

The minimalist industrial interior of The Refinery plays host to a restaurant/ bar and a co-working space upstairs. I don’t know about you but if I have a restaurant that serves this Gyuniku Donburi ($15) right below my workspace, I’ll have to resist having it for lunch every other day. With fragrant truffled shimeiji mushrooms, shredded tare marinated beef and a runny onsen egg, this rice bowl that’s punctuated with scallions is a well thought-out dish that’ll have you coming back for seconds.

The Refinery
Address: 115 King George’s Ave
Opening hours: Tue – Thu: 12pm – 3pm, 6pm – 12am; Fri: 12pm – 3pm, 6pm – 1am; Sat: 11am – 4pm, 6pm – 1am; Sun: 11am – 4pm

9. Tanuki Raw

[embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/_QT8w8nWLG/[/embed]

Our last restaurant is a heavyweight when it comes to the rice bowl scene in Singapore. Touted as one of Singapore’s best lunch bowls, Tanuki Raw dishes out affordable meals as well as alcoholic drinks. Order the crowd favourite – Truffle Yakiniku ($18) – which features slices of US angus beef short ribs pan seared to perfection and drizzled with truffle soy sauce that’ll make a great accompaniment to the mixed rice.

Tanuki Raw
Address: 181 Orchard Road
Opening hours: Mon – Sun: 11am – 10:30pm

With these photogenic rice bowl options, you’ll have to remember to put down your phone and actually get to eating the meal before it turns cold. Boasting the complete package of both looks and taste, you’ll soon find yourself falling head-over-heels for these rice bowls.

Pokémon Café – An Exclusive Sneak Pik(achu) At Its Menu!

The last time we talked about our childhood dream coming true, it was when we announced the launch of the first Pokémon café in Singapore. Since then, we’ve been curious about the café’s menu. Will there be a local twist to its dishes? How extensive is the menu? After travelling across the land and searching far and wide, we’re proud to say that we’ve found the ultimate prize – the menu of the Pokémon Café. We know, this is totally our destiny.

From 27th May – 31st July 2016, the Pokémon Café will be serving an array of Pikachu Pokémon themed mains, desserts and drinks that’ll satisfy the inner Pokémon master in you. Ready to find out what they are? Turn your cap backwards Ash Ketchum style and let’s go!

Mains

[caption id="attachment_8206" align="alignnone" width="1200"] Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelette with Magma Sauce![/caption]

The menu may not be extensive, but rest assured that having your rice served in the shape of Pikachu’s face will have you forget that in no time. Amongst the list is the Pikachu Smiling Rice Omelettte with Magma Sauce $25. Pikachu’s face is shaped with saffron rice and is accompanied by omelette ears.

[caption id="attachment_8207" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Battle on Pikachu! Level-Up with Rare Candy! Battle on Pikachu! Level-Up with Rare Candy![/caption]

Another intriguing combination is Battle on Pikachu! Level-up with Rare Candy $20, a dish that consists of beef patty, mashed potatoes and vegetables in the shape of a Pokéball. We’re not too sure what the Rare Candy is, but we’re hoping that it’ll level-up the dish.

[caption id="attachment_8208" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Special Move “Fire Blast”! Special Move “Fire Blast”![/caption]

Equally intriguing is the Special Move “Fire Blast”! $20. A possible rice-in-a-pan dish, this dish is probably one that best fits its name.

Dessert

[caption id="attachment_8211" align="alignnone" width="1195"]Pikachu’s “Thunder Shock” Parfait Pikachu’s “Thunder Shock” Parfait[/caption]

Talk about seriously adorable-looking desserts. Starting off with Pikachu’s “Thunder Shock” Parfait $15, this sponge cake looks too good to be eaten. Accompanied by a crackling cotton candy ball, this dessert will satisfy your sugar craving for sure.

13254636_10153035008492325_5782686908935690481_o

A cream puff and cotton candy, the Pokéball Cream Puff! $20 even allows customers to decorate the dessert with a choco pen. Not much to do with the theme but this interactive dessert is pretty interesting.

[caption id="attachment_8213" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Pikachu’s Sweeeeet Pancake Pikachu’s Sweeeeet Pancake[/caption]

The usual pancakes and maple syrup takes on an adorable twist with Pikachu’s Sweeeeet Pancake $20. On a serious note, we’re hoping that the number of ‘e’s is not representative of the dessert’s sugar level.

Finally something that’s not Pikachu related, the Special Move Hydro Pump $15 is made of jelly, candy, white chocolate, and custard cream in the shape of a Pokéball. We’d have liked it better if the jelly is in the shape of Squirtle but guess Pikachu remains the star of the show.

Drinks

[caption id="attachment_8215" align="alignnone" width="1179"]“Volt Tackle” Soda “Volt Tackle” Soda[/caption]

A combination of passion fruit soda and mango sherbet, the “Volt Tackle” Soda promises to give customers a tingling sensation that hopefully is more pleasant than what its name suggests.

[caption id="attachment_8216" align="alignnone" width="1200"]Pikachu Latte - Hot Pikachu Latte – Hot[/caption]

If you’re more of a coffee person, you’ll most likely appreciate the Pikachu Latte.

[caption id="attachment_8217" align="alignnone" width="1035"]Pikachu Latte - Iced Pikachu Latte – Iced[/caption]

Do note that the Hot $8 and Iced $9 versions come in different forms so if you’re unsure about which to get, you can always make a decision based on the aesthetics.

Ready to eat them all? As aesthetically pleasing as the dishes may be, we have to admit that to pay for them is the real test. As a witty friend of ours so rightly asked, is this Poké-a-hole-in-your-wallet café worth its price tag? We’ll leave it to you to decide.

The Matcha Avalanche is as dramatic and exciting as it sounds. A warm matcha lava cake is perched on top of a bowl, sitting vicariously on a brittle of almond nougatine. https://www.instagram.com/p/7zlk1YPJBM/

Toast Box’s 1933 Restaurant – A Food Blast To The Past

1933? Why not 1954? Or 1965? Or any other year for that matter?

Turns out, this nostalgic restaurant helmed by Toast Box is named after the year the Capitol Theatre was first opened. Located in the middle of Capitol, this 2-storey restaurant is pretty hard to miss.

[caption id="attachment_7229" align="alignnone" width="836"]Pretty modern for a 1930s themed restaurant Pretty modern for a 1930s themed restaurant[/caption]

With its revamped menu, 1933 now presents a range of Nanyang-inspired dishes that we’re confident will impress both locals and non-locals. We started with the Forest Mushroom ($6.90) and boy were we pleasantly surprised with the crunchiness of the bread bowl. We’re not proud of it, but we ended up ditching our cutleries and went for the bread with our hands instead. #dontjudge

[caption id="attachment_7231" align="alignnone" width="2231"]The scrumptious satay we can't get enough of! The scrumptious satay we can’t get enough of![/caption]

The Luncheon Fries ($5.90) are pretty much like your usual SPAM fries but its accompanying sweet chili sauce made all the difference. The Hainanese-style Satay ($8.90/6 sticks) on the other hand, blew us away. Succulent and tender, the bursting smoky flavors of the charcoal-grilled meat hit us like a wrecking ball. In a good way. The only gripe we have however, is the size of the satays. Please sir, can we have some more?

[caption id="attachment_7232" align="alignnone" width="2226"]Hainanese Chicken Rice Set Hainanese Chicken Rice Set[/caption]

Moving on to the mains, the Hainanese Chicken Rice ($12.90) was a delight. Though more expensive than your Kopitiam version, the quality of this dish is worth its price. Served with fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth, a side of bean sprouts, a platter of chicken, a small plate of kang kong, and a bowl of soup, this dish is pretty much a meal by itself.

[caption id="attachment_7233" align="alignnone" width="4212"]Laksa Pasta Laksa Pasta[/caption]

If you’re a fan of spicy dishes and Toast Box’s laksa, the Laksa Pasta ($13.90) is definitely the dish to go for. A local favorite with an Italian twist, the chef did a more than decent job in marrying the two. The taste of laksa is very evident despite the pasta’s dryness but as non-chili enthusiasts, we thought the dish was a tad spicy. So if you’re like us, do keep a drink handy which in our case, was the Berry Bliss ($5.50), a perfect blend of fresh mixed berries, mint and lemonade to douse the laksa fire.

[caption id="attachment_7234" align="alignnone" width="1000"]The decadent Gula Melaka Pandan Cake The decadent Gula Melaka Pandan Cake[/caption]

To complete our meal, we had the decadent Gula Melaka Pandan Cake ($7.90), a soft pandan chiffon caked baked with bits of palm sugar and served with Gula Melaka syrup.

The prices may not be very 1933, but this revamped menu does offer some pretty good dishes. So if you’re in town and are game to try local food with a unique twist, take a trip to 1933 and who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised.

These Lava Toasts From The Bakery Chef Will Surely Make You Drool

We’ve tried Salted Egg Yolk Xiao Long Bao, Salted Egg Yolk Croissants, and Salted Egg Yolk Lava Cheese Tarts (Prima Deli)… and now introducing Lava Toasts (Charcoal and Matcha) that ooze out salted egg yolk when you cut it open. If you don’t go ‘oooh’, we don’t know what does.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BEAqdahBjsP/?taken-by=thebakerychef&hl=en

Served at The Bakery Chef at Bukit Merah, this honey-glazed Charcoal toast rose to international fame when publishing site INSIDER food featured a video of the toast. To date, there are over 16,000 shares and close to 5,000 comments on the video. We can see why so many people are sharing it. Just look at the sticky and creamy salted egg yoke lava… it sure looks delish!

On top of salted egg yolk lava, the signature charcoal toast is also available with Nutella filling! Just imagine a generous portion of the rich and warm hazelnut chocolate oozing from the brioche toast…heavenly.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BE3GPfyskE9/?taken-at=164558236

For those who like a little Japanese touch to their toast, you are also in for a treat. Also on the menu of The Bakery Chef is the Matcha Honey Lava Toast – salted egg yolk Matcha lava paired with a scoop of green tea ice cream. Initially, we thought it was a little odd to combine Matcha and salted egg yolk as together, they can be a little too powering in terms of flavours. Surprisingly they go amazingly well together like a match made in the kitchen.

If you’d like to give this a try, the Lava Toast is available daily from 12pm onwards till 2 hours before closing. However, due to the overwhelming response, their signature toasts are usually sold out WAYYY earlier, even before 3pm! They do not do take aways for this dish and to be fair to everyone, The Bakery Chef does not accept reservations for the toast. Be sure to be there at the right time to avoid disappointment.

Hello Kitty vs Pompompurin – Here’s The Low-down On Both Cafes!

With the recent launch of the Hello Kitty and Pompompurin Cafe, and the upcoming launch of the Pokemon Café later this month (limited time period), character-themed cafes here seem to be facing fierce competition. With so many choices, and so little time, which cafe should you visit? Without further ado, we analyse and compare both cafes, so you can prioritise which to visit!

Pompompurin Cafe

[caption id="attachment_7159" align="alignnone" width="640"]Pompompurin Cafe Singapore - Pompurin and friends Credit: youngparents.com[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7160" align="alignnone" width="640"]Pompompurin Cafe Singapore - Seating Credit: youngparents.com[/caption]

Fans of Sanrio would probably have heard of this café which opened a few weeks back. Like what its name implies, the Pompompurin café’s décor and food are designed after the yellow canine – from the pancakes to the caramel pudding down to the seats and placemats.

Aside from the limited edition Pompompurin merchandise, selected dishes like the signature Bagel’s Special: Pancake Tower ($21.99, pictured bottom right) comes with a Pompompurin mug which you can take home!

[caption id="attachment_7165" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]26432926951_7101eb1a89_b Credit:

Hello Kitty fans rejoice! Now, there is no need to fly overseas to get your Hello Kitty fix because you have a Hello Kitty cafe at your doorstep. And it’s open 24 hours to boot!

Hello Kitty merchandise are displayed and available for purchase. There’s also a limited edition Hello Kitty plushie, which is the first worldwide to feature a double bow, up for grabs (500 pieces only at $49.90 each). Custom Hello Kitty-inspired tea blends ($38.90), and grow-it-yourself plant kits ($34.50) are sold along with other Hello Kitty merchandise.

Hello Kitty Cafe Singapore menu and price

Since this café is under Europar Specialty Restaurants (S) Pte Ltd, which is under the subsidiary of ABR Holdings Limited who owns Swensen’s, the gelatos ($6 per scoop) and soft serves ($4.90) are a must try. They are my personal favourites out of the whole menu!

This Garden-themed Sanrio café is open around the clock (the first in the world) so night owls now have a new hang out spot!

Hello Kitty Orchid Garden Cafe
Price range: About $15 to $24 per main dish
Location: Arrival Hall Central #01-22, Terminal 3, Singapore Changi Airport
Opening hours: Open 24 hours daily
Maximum seating capacity: 84 pax
Advantages: open 24 hours, quality food (as compared to kawaii food), adult-oriented, merchandise available for purchase, beautiful orchids and plants displayed to keep to Orchid Garden theme, subtle Hello Kitty decor and interior

Verdict: Having analysed and been to both cafes, we’ll have to say that each has its own pros and cons. Pompompurin Cafe is certainly very family friendly and great for kids. Their adorable food will coax and please even the fussiest child to eat. On the other hand, Hello Kitty’s decor and menu is more suited to adults, and their location at Changi Airport makes it convenient to stop for a visit and a bite. Conclusion? It’s a draw!

A.R.C. – The Café All Hipsters Dream About

Warm fuzzy lights, quaint ceramic cups and cold brews served in light bulbs, if this isn’t a classic hipster café, we seriously don’t know what is.

[caption id="attachment_7113" align="alignnone" width="1000"]DSC_0075-01 We can totally imagine spending a lazy Sunday here[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7118" align="alignnone" width="1000"] One of the café’s many instagram-worthy corners[/caption] [caption id="attachment_7054" align="alignnone" width="5616"] Award winning barista John Ryan Ting[/caption]

Located at Sultan gate, A.R.C. is an Academy, Roastery, and of course, a Café. Helmed by award(s) winning John Ryan Ting, who is also the first Singaporean barista to reach the semi-finals of the World Barista Championship, you can be assured of the coffee quality served at this quaint café. Did we also mention that Andrea Tan, the Champion of Singapore National Brewers Cup 2015 is also making coffee at A.R.C.? Excuse us whilst we scream a little.

[caption id="attachment_7055" align="alignnone" width="1334"]Top: Cold BrewBottom: 1 + 1 Top: Cold Brew
Bottom: 1 + 1[/caption]

So after that entire introduction, it’s only right to say that we started off with A.R.C.’s signature beverage, the Cold Brew, and 1 + 1. Comprising of Kenyan beans that are immersed in water overnight, the Cold Brew ($8-$12) makes a refreshing drink that is best enjoyed over ice. Despite its acidity, the Cold Brew isn’t overly sour and is pleasantly fruity. The drink is also served in an aesthetically pleasing glass light bulb that you can bring home as souvenir.

The 1 + 1 ($7) is a little more interesting. In A.R.C.’s attempt to allow patrons to enjoy their coffee as both black and white, the concept behind 1 + 1 comprises of a single espresso shot (black) and a milk-based espresso (white). For its price, this mini coffee platter is definitely a steal.

[caption id="attachment_7056" align="alignnone" width="999"]Salmon Tartare Salmon Tartare[/caption]

Despite having visited the café thrice (it’s that good), you’ll be surprised to learn that we have barely sampled half its food items. Talk about having an extensive menu.

Starting off with the Salmon Tartare ($14.80), we were pleasantly surprised by the pink peppercorns that would burst with flavour whenever we bit into them. If you’re not exactly a fan of salmon, worry not. We had a non-salmon lover taste the dish and the plate ended up sparkly clean. We kid you not.

[caption id="attachment_7057" align="alignnone" width="999"]Tender Beef Cheeks Tender Beef Cheeks[/caption]

For the mains, we found the Tender Beef Cheeks ($18.80) very aptly named. Absolutely tender and succulent, this hearty dish is definitely one for the beef lovers. It may be strange to pay this much attention to a side dish, but we have to say that the accompanying Mashed Potato was de-li-cious. Thank god the chef that it’s also available as a side dish.

[caption id="attachment_7059" align="alignnone" width="999"] The Cod Fish[/caption]

The Cod Fish ($31.80) however, is easily the star of the show. This melt-in-your-mouth-pan-seared Cod Fish is a must-have. We repeat; a must-have. Appropriately seasoned and tender soft, this lip-smacking dish will do more than make up for its relatively higher price tag.

[caption id="attachment_7116" align="alignnone" width="1000"]Can a Tiramisu get any more adorable? Can a Tiramisu get any more adorable?[/caption]

If you’re into creative desserts, you’ve come to the right place. When we first laid our eyes on A.R.C.’s Flower Pot Tiramisu ($6.80), we couldn’t believe how adorable it is. Seriously, just look at it. The flavour of this dessert is appropriately strong without being overpowering at the same time. Made with the café’s house blend, this tiramisu may be no hero but it is definitely something to shout about.

[caption id="attachment_7200" align="alignnone" width="729"]Image Credit: @the_royal_son Image Credit: @the_royal_son[/caption]

The Espresso Waffle with Tahitian Vanilla Ice-Cream ($11.80) is a delight. Similarly, this dessert is infused with the café’s house blend, giving it its unique coffee aroma. The waffle is really crispy on the outside and is not as dense so no worries about feeling gelat when tucking into this delicious dessert!

Why This New Cafe At Upp Thomson Is A Must Visit. Look At Their Waffles!

Nothing makes me happier than a delectable plate of waffle topped with sauce; sprinkled with almonds, chopped fruits, two scoops of ice cream; and completed with a macaron. Fortunately for me, I had two plates of that goodness. Twice in a week. Guilty as charged.

If you’d like to enjoy a treat, a chill place to unwind after a tiresome day, or some great waffles, head over to Les Patisseries at Upper Thomson. They moved from Toa Payoh and opened Nov 2015. We couldn’t resist paying a visit after we heard about their waffles.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BEi29ynLHDO/

https://www.instagram.com/p/BD7lNl4ubGE/

We had their Horffles Waffle (two scoops of vanilla ice cream on a waffle with Horlicks), and Ispahan Waffle (two scoops of raspberry sorbet on a rose waffle). Both waffles came with a macaron, mixed berries, almonds, and sauce. The texture of both waffles on two different occasions was fluffy and crispy. Portions are quite big, so do share!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BEi6zYvH_2O/

There are plenty of other waffle choices from Thai Milk Tea to Belgian Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Earl Grey, and Madagascar Vanilla. If you’re feeling crafty, you can create your own waffles according to your preference. Just pick your waffle base, how many slices you want, ice cream flavour and sauce. This DIY option will surely save you from all the stress of picking ONE waffle flavour.

Note: Waiting time for the waffles to be done was quite long, considering that Les Patisseries was relatively quiet when we were there.

At a price tag of around $14+, Les Patisseries’ waffles are more a treat than a regular dessert stop. Crafted with thought and care, they’re still definitely worth a try. So grab your friends and best buddies, and get ready to enjoy waffles that taste just as good as they look!
