Films At The Fort
[caption id="attachment_36479" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit: Films At The Fort[/caption]Okay, this one isn’t exactly National Day themed, but paying a little too much for a hipster experience has become so commonplace in Singapore that it could be considered a national pastime.
At $30 a ticket, Films At The Fort isn’t exactly the cheapest date idea, but you’ll be hard pressed to find another event that allows you to watch a classic movie in an open-air setting under the stars. It’s a unique concept for sure, and one you should experience at least once in your life.
Romance Classic The Notebook and sex comedy Blockers will be screening on Saturday and Sunday respectively, so there’s something for everyone. The organisers are also expecting “a strong demand for tickets”, so be sure to get yours quick.

Get Boozy With Fellow Singaporeans While Watching NDP Live At The Projector
The National Day Parade is a quintessential Singaporean event that brings our country together (for a few hours, at least), but we think it’s safe to say that originality isn’t exactly their strong suit.
Yes, there’s bound to be some new offerings — in this year’s case, a 10-minute film directed by Boo Junfeng — but for the most part you can count on seeing mainstays like the Red Lions, marching contingents and costumed primary school kids taking up the majority of the parade’s screen time.
[caption id="attachment_36445" align="aligncenter" width="506"] Fingers crossed for another hero to rise up.Image Credit: ClickOpenPlay YouTube[/caption]
Exciting as these are, there’s a sense of deja vu watching the same thing year after year, and If you’re looking to switch up your NDP viewing experience you might want to check out Watch It Wet: NDP 2018.
One People, One Nation, One Drink-A-Pore
Organised by everyone’s favourite hipster cinema The Projector, the event is the first of a “new occasional series of communal drinking”, and aims to unite everyone as “one people, one nation, one drink-a-pore”. They’ll be broadcasting the parade on one of their big screens, alongside a dedicated bar for all your alcoholic needs.
This isn’t just going to be a mere screening, however — the event will also be hosted by drag queen Becca D’Bus, who’ll provide commentary throughout with the things you want to say but are too afraid to.
[caption id="attachment_36443" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] Image Credit: Intermission Bar At The Projector[/caption]The best part? Admission is pay as you wish, so you won’t have to break the bank to attend. The Projector suggests a minimum of $15 though, which is still reasonable.
Doors open at 5:15pm on August 9th (duh) with free seating, so you’d better head there early if you want to experience an NDP in a totally different way this year.
Watch It Wet: NDP 2018

15 Best Stalls To Visit At Twilight: Flea & Feast – Indoor Bazaar With All-S’porean Food, Clothes And Crafts
Did you hear? The highly anticipated Twilight: Flea and Feast is back again for it’s third edition! If you missed out on #TWILIGHT18 earlier on in February, don’t fret. From 3 – 5 August, make your way down to the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre for a day of browsing through dozens of flea stalls, free movie screenings and of course, sinking your teeth in tasty eats!
This indoor bazaar houses over 100 stalls selling popular street food, clothes, accessories and handmade crafts. This time round, you guys are in for a real treat as you’ll find more than 50 F&B vendors – you probably won’t know where to start!
For the first time since its inception, all vendors showcased at the event will be local. Which is why this year’s edition of TWILIGHT will be themed “Proudly Local” so both vendors and visitors get to celebrate everything we love and remember about Singapore.
To help you out with your upcoming shopping and gastronomic adventure, we’ve listed out some of our favourite makan and shopping vendors that you HAVE to visit!
What To Makan
1. Saiko
Think of Saiko as the elevated version of your typical pasar malam takoyaki joint!
Serving up Japanese street food realness, Saiko serves takoyaki in sizeable portions with full bite-sized fillings. You can choose from 3 different fillings – octopus, chicken and braised mushrooms. You also have the option of mixing 2 different fillings in one serving.
[caption id="attachment_36276" align="aligncenter" width="3807"] Image Credit: Discover SG[/caption]Other selections include Classic, Dashi (takoyaki with dashi broth, bonito flakes and scallions) and Miso (takoyaki with miso butter and rice krispies). Top it all off with a perfectly cooked onsen egg for just an additional $2!
We promise you that the takoyaki from Saiko won’t disappoint!
2. Burgernomics
Burgernomics got everyone raving over them when they first opened at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre. They aim to differentiate themselves by keeping their burgers honest and simple, but with a distinctive Asian twist.
[caption id="attachment_36277" align="aligncenter" width="1240"] Image Credit: @burgernomics_sg[/caption]This time round, you get to satisfy your burger cravings without having to travel all the way down to Pasir Ris!
We heard that their burgers are really popular at events so head down early to avoid the long queues.
3. Inariku
If you eat, sleep and breathe all things Japanese, then you’re going to love this one.
Trained at the Tokyo Sushi Academy to fortify her passion for Japanese cooking, you can expect her highly raved lobster inari which comes in small sets of 4, ramen, unagi bento and more!
[caption id="attachment_36278" align="aligncenter" width="1680"] Image Credit: @ria897[/caption]We recommend getting her lobster inari which is a combination of lobster and squid salad which sits atop a bed of sushi rice. All these premium ingredients are nestled within some Inariage aka Aburaage (the sweet beancurd pouch) and finished off with some Japanese mayonnaise.
4. O’Braim
O’Braim entered the pasar malam circuit around 2016 selling goreng pisang (banana fritters) with a modern twist.
They sell banana fritters in different flavours, including chocolate and cheese with condensed milk, while using a goreng pisang recipe passed down from their grandmother.
[caption id="attachment_36279" align="aligncenter" width="1254"] Image Credit: @redroselips[/caption]You’ll always find long queues at their stall which also means “confirm plus chop good”.
5. Ikan1986
A must have at every BBQ, their freshly grilled otah is one of the best we’ve had at any pop-up events!
Based on a traditional family recipe dating back to 1986, their staple menu item has fed scores of people ever since.
[caption id="attachment_36280" align="aligncenter" width="1886"] Image Credit: @ikan1986[/caption]Made with fresh mackerel and a select number of equally fresh herbs and spices, their freshly grilled otah remains a delightful way to please the palate and tummy; either as an afternoon snack or part of a meal.
6. Egg Stop
Opening early August 2018 at Paya Lebar Square, you’ll get to try their sandwiches first at Twilight Flea & Feast.
Although we don’t know much about them yet, their sandwiches look like the perfect mid-afternoon snack.
[caption id="attachment_36281" align="aligncenter" width="1256"] Image Credit: @eggstopsg[/caption]Just look at all that filling spilling out of their sandwich. We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely excited to try this one out!
7. Katoshka
Katoshka needs no introduction from us. They’re seen at almost every bazaar/pop-up events that they’re pretty much a household name by now.
They go by a very simple concept: good ol’ fries served in cups laden in different sauces, from special cheese, sour ranch, chilli beef and sambal cheese.
[caption id="attachment_36282" align="aligncenter" width="1254"] Image Credit: @thekatoshka[/caption]If you love their fries as much as we do, then go get yourself a cup (or two) at Twilight!
8. Naughty Boyz
Known for their spicy mac and cheese, this is the perfect meal for sharing.
[caption id="attachment_36283" align="aligncenter" width="1786"] Image Credit: @naughtyboyz_[/caption]Their mac and cheese is bound to be a gooey delight. I mean, who doesn’t like cheese?
9. BOO:EH
BOO:EH serves up inspired butterbeer like the ones you see in Harry Potter World. This homemade brew consists of 2 parts – soothing liquid gold and dreamy butterscotch foam.
[caption id="attachment_36284" align="aligncenter" width="1032"] Image Credit: @boo.eh[/caption]The flavour is so rejuvenating and unique that it transports you to a magical world at the first sip.
What To Buy
10. The Rattan Baby
Every season the fashion world brings with it a corpus of new bag trends. So much so, that deciding which one to add to your already swelling collection can be a task in itself.
A woven hand-held basket, a tote or an oversized shopper, whichever style you choose, it’s sure to be a failsafe option that works for all occasions from a casual walk in the park to a dinner date.

Mark Your Calendars – Singapore’s First Meme-Themed Pool Party Happening Aug 5
In the 80s and 90s, we all thought that the future would have flying cars and holoprojectors like the ones in Star Wars but all we have is an entire generation of people communicating in memes.
If you’re wondering what memes are, they’re like a modern, cynical version of hieroglyphics – pictures or screengrabs of a certain character or emotion with a short caption to convey the sender’s exact sentiments.
And frankly, they do the job really well. They’re always concise and accurate, more so than the average emojis.
[caption id="attachment_36265" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: POPsicle 2018[/caption]Come 5 August 2018, Singapore is about to have its very own meme-themed party – POPsicle 2018.

[caption id="attachment_36269" align="aligncenter" width="1080"] Image Credit: @hoteljenog[/caption]There will also be barbecue food if you’re feeling hungry.
While you chill and mingle by the rooftop pool, be entertained by music from the likes of DJ Krumbs from Bang Bang, DJ Shai, DJ Local Motion, DJ BillyT, and DJ Koh Han.

Singapore Night Festival 2018
This year, the festival kicks off with Night Lights, which will feature 16 light installations by both local and international artists peppered around the Arts and Heritage district.
Festival-goers can also revel in the showcase of 27 performances across various different art disciplines from 23 to 25 August 2018. As with the previous years, there will also be food and beverage options and artisan crafts on sale.
This year’s festival will also feature unique collaborations such as the performance by Hope Technik and local jazz dance troupe EV Dance.
The performance, named Let there be ____ will see the dancers donning and performing with the ‘Audra Exoskeleton’ – an exo-suit created by Hope Technik to assist workers in heavy lifting.
The Leap of Faith by Teng Ka Wei is a honeycomb-inspired installation that lights up with words of encouragement when visitors interact with it.
