DBS Marina Regatta Combines Fitness, Food And Craft Into One Big Party At The Bay

For those of you who religiously watch Ninja Warrior and Wipeout and think you can conquer the courses with ease, then we’ve got news for you.

The DBS Marina Regatta is back once again for its 7th edition in celebration of DBS’ 50th anniversary, with 2 weekends of fun and challenges for adrenaline junkies and urban athletes.

The DBS Marina Regatta will be held at The Promontory@Marina Bay on 26 – 27 May and 2 – 3 June 2018.

For The Fitness Buffs

Southeast Asia’s largest land and water obstacle course, the daunting Battle Bay Extreme returns again this year, with 3 levels of difficulty.

Choose from the Beginner (Initiate), Intermediate (Intense) and Advanced (Insane) levels and test your endurance, strength and speed. Here’s a peek at what the courses will be like.

Of course, you’re not expected to just “be ready” for such an intense challenge. So DBS has prepared a series of complimentary fitness and wellness activities around the bay starting from 17 April 2018.

Prices for Battle Bay Extreme start at $8 – $10 for Initiate and $28 for Intense and Insane.

The Creator’s Market will feature the Mahota Grocers Market selling healthy snacks and drinks, an open area for wellness activities, and even a communal social kitchen.

There’s something for everyone in the family. Parents can choose to make your own superfood snacks such as granola bars and acai bowls while the kids can get creative in the hands-on upcycling, craft and wellness workshops available.

All workshops and classes are ticketed which means you’ll need to register and pay for them. Don’t worry though, all are priced below $20.

Now for the main event of the DBS Marina Regatta – the dragon boating competition.

Organised in partnership with the Singapore Dragon Boat Association, this is the 7th edition of the international dragon boating competition which sees over 80 teams from all over Asia compete for the cash prize of $147,000 – the largest prize amount for dragon boating in Asia.

That’s not all, this year’s competition will feature youths-at-risk and youths with special needs taking part in the Community Race category.

If you’re a fan of dragon boating, then this is a sporting event featuring the best teams in the region that you don’t want to miss!

Singapore’s largest pop-up creative market, Artbox, is back bigger and better than before!

Taking over 140,000 square feet of space at the Bayfront Event Space, this year’s Artbox will feature over 400 regional retailers, a larger selection of food and beverage, creative art installations, and even a hammock and foam pit zone!

ULTRA Singapore Returns This June With DJ Snake And Afrojack Among Headliners

For all you party people, the long awaited Ultra Singapore is slated to return for its third instalment this June – with this year’s festival set to be the best and biggest yet.

The Ultra Main Stage will feature headline acts while the Resistance Stage will pay homage to deep house and techno music. This year’s regional acts support features names such as Myrne, Kaku and Rave Republic.

The annual gay pride rally, Pink Dot is back to mark its milestone tenth edition with an expanded array of activities and a strong message to Singaporeans.

This time round, Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans (yay!) are invited to celebrate Singapore’s biggest LGBTQ-affirming event.

This year, Pink Dot organisers managed to find a way to let everyone participate, no matter the citizenship.

Grab your pink outfits and celebrate Pink Dot 10 with your loved ones and stand strong together on Saturday, 21 July 2018.

For the past nine editions, Pink Dot has worked hard to win the hearts and mind of Singaporeans to help bring the message of inclusion and diversity to everyone on this Little Red Dot.

Pink Dot spokesperson Paerin Choa said, “The 10th year is a reflection of looking back”.

Despite the challenges the organisers face each time such as the “Wear White Campaign” in 2014 where they urged followers to wear white in protest of Pink Dot on the weekend of the event, Pink Dot stands strong till this day.

Continuing from its successful debut last year, Red Dot for Pink Dot returns with another fundraising drive, calling on corporate Singapore to continue taking a stand for inclusion and diversity with a current tally of more than 60 local sponsors.

Year after year, Pink Dot attendees look forward to headlining local artistes as they declare their undying support for the Freedom To Love through song. The Pink Dot Concert will also be hosted on a purpose-built stage as Telok Ayer Hong Lim Green Community Centre undergoes renovations.

In addition to the usual festival tent, concert and light up, there will also be a PinkFest.

Spanning across two weekends prior to Pink Dot, PinkFest will see close to a dozen businesses, groups and individuals, LGBTQ and straight allies, organising an assortment of privately-run activities and events geared towards greater engagement with Singaporeans.

You can expect movie screenings, bake sales, art talks and more!

Similar to last year’s outing, you are required to show photo ID (pink/blue NRIC or passport) to volunteers and security personnel before being admitted into the park.

However, there will only be one dedicated entrance, which will bring you to 12 different checkpoints. Once they hit max capacity, they won’t be able to let anyone else in. You’re encouraged to come early!

Beerfest Asia Celebrates Its 10th Beer-thday With A Bigger Venue And Limited Edition Booze

If you love your booze, then get your liver ready because SouthEast Asia’s largest beer festival is returning for its 10th edition this August!

That’s right, Beerfest Asia 2018 will be happening from 30 August to 2 September 2018! And this time, they’ve got a major venue upgrade.

Chug! Chug! Chug!

Beerfest Asia was started so that Singaporeans will be able to taste and sample beers that are not usually available in Singapore.

This year, the event celebrates a decade of booze and it promises to be bigger and better than any Beerfest of the past years, with 600+ beers and entertainment.

Beerfest Asia is also working with 10 breweries worldwide to create 10 limited edition Beerfest Asia Birthday Beers which will only be available at the festival.

Last year’s Beerfest Asia was held at Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore, but this year the festival has found a much bigger home. That’s right, Beerfest Asia 2018 will be at The Meadow at Gardens By The Bay!

While participating booze merchants have not been announced, ticketing details are already available.

The Advance Pass comes with 1 complimentary welcome beer. 1 Day Advance Passes costs $20 per person for Thursday and Sunday, and $25 per person for Friday and Saturday.

It’ll be more worth to buy Advance Passes in a group of 4. For $75, you and your friends are allowed entry on one of any of the 4 days as well as 4 complimentary welcome beers.

However, if you’re looking to up your game, then go for the VIP Pass which grants you access to 1 day of free flow VIP beer. The VIP Pass goes for $110 on Thursday and Sunday, and $150 on Friday and Saturday.

Get Good Hawker Grub For $2 And $3 Beers At The Tiger Street Food Pop-Up This Friday

Growing up, I used to dislike going to hawker centres. It was always stuffy and unhygienic and the tables were gross. But I eventually found my appreciation for the humble hawker centre. Hawker food is cheap, unpretentious and speaks for itself.

While being a hawker is a dying trade in Singapore, there are a few who willingly embrace the trade and are doing well. These new generation hawkers are revamping hawker food and bringing new dishes to the masses.

Last year, the first Tiger Street Festival was held, for young hawkers to showcase their food and creations and the proceeds went to the Tiger Street Food Support Fund.

This year, the Tiger Street Festival returns for their 2nd edition.

Tiger Street Food Festival

On 11 May 2018, there’s the Tiger Street Food Pop-up, happening at Prinsep Street, a sneak preview for what’s to come in the Tiger Street Food Festival.

This pop-up will feature 6 out of the 11 young hawker lineup.

Participating hawkers include K.R. Banana Leaf Masala Chicken Nasi Lemak, Fishboss, Prawn Village, Ah Tan Wings, FORUM Hainanese Congee, and Snuggrubs.

We have our eyes on Fishboss, Ah Tan Wings, and Prawn Village.

Fishboss is known for their handmade fishball noodles, which are a hometown favourite of the owner in Yong Peng, Malaysia.

Their handmade fishballs are soft and don’t have a lingering fishy smell, which is a sign that the fishballs are fresh.

That’s not all, their noodles are served with dark sauce, minced meat and spring onions which is always welcome because nobody likes plain noodles.

Ah Tan Wings made waves with their perfected Prawn Paste Fried Chicken, also known as Har Cheong Gai.

You might have seen the insane queues they generated at previous events such as the Kranji Countryside Farmer’s Market and the Civic District Festival last year.

If you’re a fan of Prawn Paste Fried Chicken, you cannot miss Ah Tan Wings.

If Prawn Noodles are what you seek, then Prawn Village is where you should be. While it’s not an actual village, it is a stall in Golden Mile Food Centre that serves up original Penang fresh Prawn Noodles.

The recipe for the Prawn Noodles was taught to owner Anson Loo by a Penang hawker. He simmers pork ribs and chicken bones for hours to create a flavourful broth. The prawns used are big and fresh and are cooked only upon order.

If that doesn’t already sound good to you, we don’t know what will.

Happening from 5pm to 10.30pm, the Tiger Street Pop-up will also see local singer Gail Belmonte entertain the crowd with her soulful sound.

While admission is free, vouchers for food and beer are priced at $10 each. Beer will cost between $3 to $6 and each hawker dish will be sold at $2.

Remember to bring cash because card transactions will not be available.

The Singapore Cocktail Festival is back for another edition this May!

From 4 to 13 May 2018, the 10-day festival will kick off at Empress Lawn, in front of Victoria Theatre Concert Hall, the new home for the Festival Village.

Open from 4 to 6 May 2018, the Festival Village at the Empress Lawn aims to bring together 30 of the best cocktail bars in Singapore and the region into one big party.

You will be able to sample creative cocktails by internationally-acclaimed bars, bartenders and partnering brands.

The Singapore bars line-up include Astor Bar, Bob’s Bar, Caffe Fernet, Cin Cin, Mitzo Restaurant & Bar, Nutmeg & Clove, Propeller Bar, Red Tail Bar, Smoke & Mirrors, Tess Bar & Kitchen, and The Wall.

The regional line-up will feature James Estes from Skullduggery, Bob Louison from Pussyfoot Salon and more!

There will also be a Bar Battle which will pit country-led bartending teams against each other in flaring, speed and mystery ingredient challenges.

The $35 ticket comes with an additional complimentary cocktail (worth $12) on top of the existing items in the $28 ticket.

The Ultimate Concert Guide: 2018 Edition

Singaporeans are definitely spoilt for choice when it comes to concerts. There are so many artists and performers who make Singapore a stop in their world tour, or even as part of a music festival.

It can be hard to keep track of upcoming concerts, so we’ve come up with a definitive guide that will be constantly updated.

Now there’s no need for multiple tabs and searching.

1. James Blunt The Afterlove World Tour Singapore 2018

Ladies and gentlemen, our favourite English Twitter troll and singer-songwriter James Blunt is bringing The Afterlove Tour to Singapore on 23 March 2018!

This year promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Featuring headliners such as Ms. Lauryn Hill, Jamie Cullum, Lalah Hathaway, Parov Stellar, visionary French artist Sebastian Tellier, Brazilian guitar legend Paulinho Garcia, as well as internationally renowned DJs, Sasha and Ferry Corsten!

That’s not all, this year’s Jazz Festival has a brand new addition in the form of the SING JAZZ Festival Villageat the Event Square on the Ebenex Stage by the Marina Bay waterfront.

From 4 – 8 April 2018, the Festival Village will showcase 16 local and regional bands. Pop by from 2pm to 10.30pm on any of the 5 days and catch these live performances free of charge!

What’s more, each day will feature a different music style. Wednesday is Swing Jazz Night. Thursday is a Latin Fiesta. Friday showcases Regional Jazz Stars. Saturday and Sunday will focus on Jazz, Soul, Funk, R&B and Blues.

4. Zedd

Russian-German producer and DJ, Zedd, will be back at Zouk on 7 April 2018 for a one night only performance!

The DJ-producer was last in Singapore for ZoukOut 2017. This time, he’s bringing back his signature tracks as well as new hits and high-octane remixes.

Well known for his amazing collaborations with the likes of Troye Sivan, Alessia Cara and Ariana Grande, fans can expect to hear his latest and greatest hits such as “Clarity”, “The Middle” and “Stay”.

Ticket prices go from $70 to $75 and can be purchased at the door. Pre-sale tickets are sold out.

5. Perry’s Witness: The Tour

KatyCats, Katy Perry will be gracing us with her presence come 8 April 2018.

They will be bringing their classic hits such as “Shattered Dreams”, “I Don’t Wanna Be A Hero”, and “Turn Back The Clock” to the MES Theatre at Mediacorp for one night only!

8. OneRepublic Live In Singapore

OneRepublic will be returning to Singapore on 23 April 2018 for a one night only concert at The Star Theatre @ The Star Performing Arts Centre!

Following the release of their latest album, “Oh My My”, OneRepublic is finally bringing their music back to Singapore.

Fans can expect to hear OneRepublic’s classic songs such as “Counting Stars”, “I Lived”, “Secrets” as well as their more recent hits such as “Wherever I Go” and “No Vacancy”.

Live Nation members will be able to purchase their tickets ahead of the general public during the pre-sale on 25 January 2018.

9. Yiruma Live In Singapore

What do the Twilight Saga and famous K-drama, Winter Sonata, have in common?

Both had soundtracks featuring songs composed by well-known Korean classical composer and pianist, Yiruma.

Following his sold out concerts in 2015, 2016 and 2017, Yiruma will be returning to Singapore on 28 April 2018 for a one night only performance at The Star Theatre.

Fans can expect to watch Yiruma play his greatest hits such as “The River Flows In You”, “Kiss The Rain”, “May Be”, and “Love Me”, as well as pieces from his latest album, “f r a m e”.

We can already tell 30 April 2018 is going to be a good day because rock superstars, Fall Out Boy, will be performing in Singapore at Zepp @ BigBox Singapore.

12. 5 Seconds Of Summer Live In Singapore 2018

5 Seconds Of Summer (5SOS) are back and they’re bringing their 5S0S3 tour to Singapore – their ONLY stop in Asia.

They will be performing at the Capitol Theatre for ONE NIGHT ONLY on 2 May 2018!

It’s been almost 2 years since we’ve heard any new music from the 4-man Australian rock band.

And now with the announcement of their 5SOS3 concert and tour dates, they’ve released their newest single, “Want You Back”!

Fans who will be attending the concert will get to hear new music from the band, and maybe even get to hear some of their famous hits such as the evergreen bop “She Looks So Perfect” and the heartfelt “Amnesia”.

If you were lucky enough to get tickets to see Bruno Mars before they were all sold out, this is a big one to look forward to.

The classic hit-making duo has been breaking cultural and language barriers throughout their 43-year career, and they continue to play more than 150 shows a year worldwide.

17. Boyce Avenue Live In Singapore 2018

American pop-rock trio and YouTube sensation Boyce Avenue will be bringing their brand new concert to Singapore on 7 June 2018 at The Star Theatre!

18. Niall Horan Flicker World Tour 2018

On 12 June 2018, yet another member of One Direction will be putting on a show here in Singapore – Niall Horan.

Here as part of his “Flicker World Tour”, Horan will be performing for just one night at The Star Theatre.

If you can’t get enough of “This Town” and “Slow Hands”, you’ll want to hear these hits sung live.

21. Sam Smith ‘The Thrill Of It All’ Tour Live In Singapore 2018

Sam Smith will be coming to Singapore on 2 October 2018 for a ONE NIGHT ONLY performance!

While ticketing details have not been released at the moment, we do know that he will be performing at the Singapore Indoor Stadium!

The tour announcement follows the release of his latest album ‘The Thrill Of It All’ back in November 2017.

Fans will be able to watch Sam Smith perform hits from the album, such as the emotional “Too Good At Goodbyes”, “One Last Song” and “Burning”.

Who knows? He might even sing some of his older songs that we’re all familiar with.
