Former Japanese Idol-Turned-Solo Artist Estelle Fly Debuts Her First English Single “Blue”
Singapore has had rather prominent home-grown musicians. From JJ Lin and Stefanie Sun to The Sam Willows and Sam Rui, the local music scene has improved by leaps and bounds.
An up-and-coming musician is Estelle Fly, a Singapore-based artist who used to be part of the Japanese pop idol scene. In 2010, she was part of girl group MYnT and Japanese anime song idol group Sea*A for 3 years, from 2011 to 2013.

Since the disbandment of Sea*A, Estelle Fly has gone solo as a Youtuber and musician, creating and building her own sound – one that she describes as a mix between R&B and Pop.
Her Solo English Debut
On 31 January 2018, Estelle Fly debuted her first English single, “Blue“.
The single, produced by Osaka-based producer Soleil Soleil and Jason Gelchen of Singapore’s Homeground Studios, is a groovy R&B pop track about a girl’s first encounter with unrequited love.
While the song isn’t immediately catchy, it grows on you. We found ourselves humming to the tune of “Blue” in the most random moments and now it’s on loop.

The River Hongbao is an annual Chinese New Year event held at The Float@Marina Bay and is the biggest Chinese New Year event in Singapore.
Visitors can expect bright and colourful lantern and light displays, impressive firework displays every night, dance and musical performances, an exhibition on the history and tradition of Chinese New Year, street food stalls, and over 30 amusement rides for the whole family!

River Hongbao 2018 The cafe will be completely redecorated with the Care Bears. While it doesn’t exactly resemble Care-a-lot, this will do. As with all past iterations of character cafes, what everyone is looking forward to is the themed food, and the Care Bears don’t intend to lose out to the Sanrio characters. For the pasta lovers, there’s the Kumoya’s Star Attraction ($18.90) which is a classic Pomodoro spaghetti with shitake mushrooms, cherry tomato confit, and parmesan cheese. If you’re looking for something more substantial, there’s the Cheer-Up Chicken Katsu ($21.90). Were you expecting a chicken cutlet? Because we were. But it’s actually a burger! A juicy Japanese katsu chicken slathered generously with teriyaki sauce is sandwiched between soft burger buns, topped with a sunny-side up and cheddar cheese, served with a garden salad, crisp fries and mushroom soup. Every past character cafe has had their own version of Kumoya’s desserts and drinks and this is no exception. Go for the Rainbow Garden Strawberry Parfait ($18.90) – Strawberry Hokkaido soft serve is served with vanilla pudding, meringue drops, fresh fruits, chocolate sable, a rainbow candy strip and mixed berries sauce. Care Bears x Kumoya Summer Hill is the newest restaurant to pop up in Sunset Way, serving up affordable French cuisine without GST and service charge. This cosy bistro serves up simple French fare that is oh-so-simple, yet oh-so-good. Dishes on their Special board as well as sides are rotated weekly so your meal there is always different and exciting. Must-tries include their Poulet Roti ($23 for half, $45 for whole), the Mustard & Sage Pork Collar ($25), Croque Monsieur ($17.50), and the Orange & Rosemary-Scented Olive Oil Cake With Cream ($3). The Poulet Roti uses hormone and antibiotic-free chicken that has been marinated with herb butter before it’s roasted to perfection. The result is roast chicken that is juicy yet still retains its skin’s crispiness. If you’re not a fan of chicken, then the Mustard & Sage Pork Collar is the main dish for you. Tangy, tender, and satisfying. The mustard and sage sauce provides a contrast of flavours, cutting through the heaviness of the tender pork so that you won’t feel jelak. The Croque Monsieur is basically a levelled-up ham and cheese sandwich. Ham, Swiss cheese, bechamel sauce, and dijon mustard sandwiched between 2 thick slices of grilled sourdough bread. Sounds like heaven to us. That’s not all, more Swiss cheese is garnished on the top of the sandwich for more cheesy goodness. If you’re a fan of French cuisine, or just appreciate comfort food, then you need to drop by Summer Hill next. Summer Hill Hidden away in the suburbs of Jurong West, is OH MY MANGO dessert bar. This unassuming dessert bar serves up various mango-flavoured food, and one of those is a mean Mango Shibuya Toast ($10.90). OneRepublic Returns To Singapore This April For A One Night Only Concert
January seems to be the month of concert announcements. And OneRepublic just joined the bandwagon.
That’s right, OneRepublic will be returning to Singapore on 23 April 2018 for a one night only concert at The Star Theatre @ The Star Performing Arts Centre!

Then, 11 hours ago, Singapore’s favourite Mandopop singer, JJ Lin, announced his ‘Sanctuary’ World Tour on Instagram and we are SHOOK.

The highly anticipated world tour is named after his latest single of the same name.
While ticketing details have not been released, the Instagram post has already garnered the attention of fans hoping that the singer will perform in their city.
Fans have been waiting for JJ Lin to announce a new world tour since his ‘Timeline’ World Tour, which began in 2013 and ended in 2015.
Following last night’s Facebook Live announcement of the cities that he will be performing in, Singapore has been confirmed as one of the stops in his world tour.
The world tour is slated to begin in Shanghai on 17 March, and will make its way around parts of China, before coming to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. The singer also added that there is a possibility for more cities to be added along the way.

1. Nod (But Not Too Fervently) At Every Installation
Sometimes, the artist statements can be too cheem for the layman, and you’re just not able to fully comprehend what the artist is trying to convey.
But you don’t want people to know that you don’t know. So you pretend and you nod.

For optimal effect, do this in an art exhibition where everything is quieter, like the Colours Of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay exhibition at the Gallery.
This weekend and next, National Gallery Singapore’s opening hours will be extended and admission is FREE for all exhibitions including Century of Light which features Colours of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d’Orsay, and Between Worlds: Raden Saleh and Juan Luna.
4. Bring Up And Mention Any Art Experience You’ve Had
The good thing about receiving your education in Singapore, is that Arts & Crafts is a subject in Primary school. And for most people, that is probably the only time they did anything remotely “artsy”.
So use it. “Wah I remember when I was doing my graduation project and I had to create something similar to this. It was damn tough. Legit.”
If any of your friends decide to call your bluff, ignore them and move on. Life’s too short.
An interesting installation is the A Stitch In Time exhibit at the National Gallery Singapore, where members of the public stitched and sewed their names, pictures, poems, and personal keepsakes on to a large piece of white cloth.
