These Pretty Pink Drinks Are Bangkok’s Latest Tea Trend, Because Thai Milk Tea Is So 2015

Thai-everything has been a huge hit among Singaporeans in the past couple of years.

With the incredible turnout at Artbox Singapore in March, and with the hype constantly brewing around food and drink trends coming out of the country, Singaporeans’ love for all things Thai is plain to see.

If you’re a fan of Thai milk tea, Cha Tra Mue is a brand you’ll recognise. You’ve probably seen its logo on tea tins and bags either stowed away on a high shelf, or found sitting out in the open whenever you order some of the delicious orange coloured tea.

A New Tea Trend In Thailand

Cha Tra Mue, which literally translates into ‘Number One Tea’, recently kicked off a brand new tea trend in Thailand – a rose tea drink, which is tea brewed from rose petals.

The tea brand has released 3 spins on the fragrant floral tea.

These teas come in pretty hues of pink and are served in plastic cups with a romantic floral design that perfectly complements the drink. Super Insta-worthy, you’ll want to get plenty of fun shots of your drink before you start downing these.

The Rose Milk Tea is the only milk tea of the lot, with a milky pink appearance and the light aroma of rose.

If refreshing is what you’re looking for, you’ll find it in the Lychee Rose Tea, which combines the fragrance of rose with the light sweetness of lychee.

[caption id="attachment_29084" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Lychee Rose Tea (Image Credit: Burpple User Doreen Tan)[/caption]

Finally, there is the Honey Rose Tea, which is sweeter than the other two. As with the other drinks, the rose fragrance comes through strongly, making this the perfect cooling drink on a warm day in Singapore’s heat!

Not just a pretty drink, the rose in the tea comes packed with benefits according to Cha Tra Mue. Apparently, some of the benefits of rose include detoxification, laxative effects for those with constipation and weight loss.

Just Our Cup Of Tea

Cha Tra Mue currently has 4 outlets in Singapore: Far East Square, Tanjong Pagar XChange, Clifford Center, and Savourworld.

Conveniently located so you can order a cup and take it with on the go, break away from your usual bubble tea order and opt for this pretty pink drink instead!

Mdm Halimah Yacob Loves Mee Rebus, And This Is Where She Gets Her Favourite Bowl

If you’ve been following the news closely, Madam Halimah Yacob should be no stranger to you – especially with the Presidential Elections coming up.

A woman who will make Singapore history if elected president, Madam Halimah Yacob has quickly become a favourite for the position, given her long years in public service and the support she’s garnered over that time.

[caption id="attachment_28959" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Thumbs up! (Image Credit: Halimah Yacob)[/caption]

Because Halimah is human – and Singaporean – too, we had one very important question for her: What is her favourite food?

We sat down with Halimah and asked her what she loves to eat. As it turns out, even her tastebuds are humble too.

[caption id="attachment_28961" align="aligncenter" width="300"] (Image Credit: Halimah Yacob)[/caption]

If you could eat only one thing for the rest of your life…

Like a true blue Singaporean foodie, Halimah had a hard time deciding between three of her favourite foods: mee rebus, laksa and nasi lemak.

Eventually, she decided on mee rebus – specifically, the one served at Teh Tahrik Makan Restaurant, tucked away in an obscure coffee shop in Marsiling; this is her go-to place for the dish.

[caption id="attachment_28962" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Simple but dripping with DELICIOUSNESS (Image Credit: Parman Abdullah)[/caption]

Ownself ask, ownself answer

A woman after our own hearts, Halimah gets excited when talking about her favourite foods.

Without missing a beat, Halimah continued, “Since you asked me what food I like, you must ask me what dessert I like ‘cos I’m thinking of food already. I like tau suan and goreng pisang.”

Creamier’s New Ice Cream BEER Floats Takes Alcoholic Ice Cream To A Whole New Level

We’ve all heard of ice cream floats, but have you heard of an ice cream beer float?

It’s exactly as it sounds – a scoop of ice cream plopped into a glass of cold beer.

A marriage of two things we all love – ice cream and booze – that’s exactly what Creamier and Stark Craft Beer are bringing to the table at this year’s Beerfest Asia.

A Perfect Union

[caption id="attachment_28953" align="alignnone" width="4505"] Image Credit: Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee[/caption]

Huge fans of the ice cream brand (as are we), the guys behind Stark Craft Beer conceived of this unusual pairing on a hot and humid night in North Bali.

Craving a taste of Creamier’s Tahitian Vanilla ice cream to go with some of their freshly-brewed Dark Wheat Beer, they decided to combine the two into one outrageous dessert, and bring it to the masses.

They reached out, Creamier said yes, and now, we get to enjoy 3 inventive floats!

A union of two artisanal, premium brands, both Creamier and Stark Craft Beer use all-natural ingredients, with no preservatives added into their innovative, delicious products.

Beer + Ice Cream Pairings

[caption id="attachment_28954" align="alignnone" width="3084"] Image Credit: Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee[/caption]

The first beer-ice cream combo is Stark Lychee Ale with Creamier’s Raspberry Love. The ale is fruity, light, with the natural aroma and sweetness of lychee, while the Raspberry Love ice cream is a romantic combination of raspberry berries, rose and sweet cream.

The final result? A taste of summer in a cup that’s light, floral and sweet.

[caption id="attachment_28955" align="alignnone" width="3119"] Image Credit: Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee[/caption]

The next float flavour on the menu is Stark Indonesian Pale Ale with Creamier’s Sea Salt Gula Melaka. The IPA has a distinct hoppy flavour, is slightly bitter, with a sweet and malty aftertaste. This is paired with Sea Salt Gula Melaka ice cream, which gives you a hit of sweet, but not without a hit of savoury flavour. The two combine into a smooth butter beer.

[caption id="attachment_28957" align="alignnone" width="1665"] Image Credit: Creamier Handcrafted Ice Cream & Coffee[/caption]

The last drink is one for the chocaholics – the Stark Dark Wheat with Creamier’s Mochaccino. The Dark Wheat beer is thick, malty and chocolatey, with a hint of bitter roasted coffee. The Mochaccino ice cream amps up the chocolate flavour with its blend of chocolate and espresso, giving you a dessert that’s chocolatey, smoky, slightly bitter, and absolutely decadent.

And on to the most important question: How do you enjoy your ice cream beer float? Either sip the beer and eat the ice cream separately, or stir all that goodness together – both ways, you get to enjoy a tasty, delightful dessert.

These ice cream floats will be available at both of Creamier’s outlets at Toa Payoh and at Gillman Barracks. They will also be available at BeerFest 2017 (17 – 20 August) at the Stark Craft Beer booth.

Each float will set you back $14 and will only be available for the month of August. Make a date with Creamier and give these a spin – you’ll wish they weren’t a limited edition treat!

This Year’s Halloween Horror Nights Brings Your L4D Fantasies To Life And Lets You Shoot Zombies

With National Day done and dusted, we are inching our way closer and closer to Halloween.

This Halloween, Halloween Horror Nights is back, and you’ll be thrilled to hear what they have in store.

[caption id="attachment_28901" align="alignnone" width="1443"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

Happening from Sep 29 to Oct 29, the 7th edition of Singapore’s ultimate scarefest is fittingly themed after the 7 deadlier – not just deadly – sins.

With 5 haunted houses, 2 scare zones, a zombie laser tag game and more, you’re in for non-stop scares, so brace yourself – there will be even more screaming than before at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights.

First, Meet The Sinisters

We’re all familiar with the 7 deadly sins, but have you heard of the 7 deadlier ones? Cruelty, deception, malice, manipulation, narcissism, perversion and obsession are their names – and they embody the vices of today.

This year, these 7 sins will manifest themselves in 7 new and unique icons known as ‘The Sinisters’. Risen from the Abyss, they will give form to your worst nightmares, casting fear into the hearts of Singaporeans at each new (literal) haunt.

5 Haunted Houses

Ever wondered if you’d survive a horror flick? Find out for yourself at the 5 haunted houses which each promise a cinematic experience with their stories.

1. DEATH Mall

[caption id="attachment_28882" align="alignnone" width="2000"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

The headliner house, DEATH Mall is filled with ghosts after the mall collapsed due to a structural failure in the building.

2. Hex

[caption id="attachment_28876" align="alignnone" width="2000"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

Wander through the jungle and you’ll find an eerie hut filled with dark magic and cursed antiquities. Keep a lookout for the Midnight Man, who has no intentions of ever letting you leave.

3. Inside The Mind

[caption id="attachment_28934" align="alignnone" width="2000"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

Originally planned for Halloween Horror Nights 6, Inside The Mind will bring you face to face with the demons and obsessions that linger inside the minds of evil.

4. TERRORcotta Empress

Escape an army of risen Terracotta soldiers at this haunted house, where the cruel, evil Empress rules mercilessly from the grave. If you find yourself face to face with the dragon lady, make sure to run in the other direction.

5. Make The Cut

Think you’ve got what it takes to be the queen of ‘Gore-pop’? The price of stardom is not cheap – make a deal, or get ruthlessly cut.

2 Scare Zones

When roaming between horror houses, be sure to watch your back!

This year’s edition of Halloween Horror Nights will see 2 scare zones, the Pilgrimage of Sin and Happy Horror Days. (Happy Holidays, get it?)

[caption id="attachment_28879" align="alignnone" width="1588"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

The first is the sanctuary of the 7 sins, a place infested with unholy beings and crawling with all kinds of evil.

[caption id="attachment_28877" align="alignnone" width="2000"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

The second will see a sinister twist on your favourite holidays.

Zombie Laser Tag

[caption id="attachment_28889" align="aligncenter" width="1000"] Image Credit: Resorts World Sentosa[/caption]

Don’t want to be scared without being given an opportunity to fight back? A first for Halloween Horror Nights, you’ll be able to defend yourself against rabid flesh-eating zombies in a brand new zombie laser tag.

Form a fearless team of four, and be sure to purchase tickets for specific time slots beforehand. The experience is tagged at $38 for regular park guests and $30 for Frequent Fear Passholders and RIP Tour Guests.

2 Shows

This year, there will be two killer shows.

The first is Laboratorium, which will transport you back in time into the period of the Black Death. Witness the horrifying acts done by plague doctors on human test subjects as they try to find cures to the Black Death. A show that includes international stunt acts, this will happen at the Pantages Hollywood Theater.

The second show is the Slice of Life Tour, where the Slit Face Girls will celebrate the launch of their new album with a special fan meet. Watch the Gore-pop girl group perform their hearts out on the Hollywood Lagoon Stage.

One of the darkest and most technologically advanced Halloween Horror Nights Singapore has seen yet, this year’s Halloween Horror Nights promises more thrills and scares than ever before.

Early bird tickets are already available from now till Sep 5. Each ticket will set you back $55, or you can purchase a bundle of three and get one free! Get your tickets online or at Universal Studios Singapore ticket booths.

What are you waiting for? Gather your friends and scare yourselves silly at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights!

The Average Singaporean Lifestyle Automatically Ages Your Hair – Here’s How

Many of us are familiar with the term ‘skin age’, but did you know there is also such a thing as ‘hair age’?

Like our skin and the various parts of our body, our hair ages too. With age, it grows thin, turns grey, gets dry and brittle, and can lose its shine – these are all signs of ageing when it comes to the hair on our heads.

Maybe you’re touching your hair, wondering if you’re a 20-something with 30-year-old hair. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In fact, many Singaporeans actually have hair older than they are! That’s simply because there are many factors about the average Singaporean’s lifestyle that can age your hair.

If you’re curious about what some of these factors are, here are 3 things you had no idea are ageing your crowning glory:

1. Sun Damage

[caption id="attachment_28910" align="alignnone" width="1429"] Image Credit: Vitalitas Portal[/caption]

Most of us Singaporeans are well familiar with how much sunshine this littler red dot sees (Read: LOTS of sun).

By being out in the sun for a long time, we subject our hair to UVA and UVB rays, which damages the outer covering of our hair strands (the ‘cuticle’), resulting in a dry, dull and brittle mane.

The next time you foresee yourself spending hours under the hot sun, try sporting a cap, or moisturise your tresses with oils, conditioners and treatments to keep them looking youthful and healthy!

2. Over-shampooing

[caption id="attachment_28911" align="alignnone" width="648"] Image Credit: Image Credit: Awards TrichoKare has won[/caption]

The brand has won multiple beauty awards, including the Singapore Women’s Weekly Hair Awards 2017 (Best Volumising Treatment For Thinning Hair), Elle Beauty Treat List 2017 (Best Treatment For Hair Loss), Daily Vanity (Top 10 Trusted Hair Treatment Centre 2017), Her World Spa Awards 2016 and Harper’s Bazaar Hair Awards 2016. Get Your Brewtiful Selfie Printed On Coffee, Only To End Up Drinking Your Own Face

Do you love your face so much you want your coffee to come complete with a picture of yourself on it?

Note: not your picture on the cup, but a picture printed directly into the whipped cream foam. And it’s 100% edible!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCQ3OIwzBjc

Selfie coffees have taken coffee drinking to another level – way above 3D foam lattes.

One-of-a-kind drink

Tucked away in an obscure corner on Haji Lane, The Selfie Coffee lets you customize your coffee for a unique drink. Originally from Malaysia, the Singapore branch also lets you print your photo onto the foam that your coffee comes with.

[caption id="attachment_28888" align="aligncenter" width="282"] #SQUADSELFIE (Image Credit: @cartmenez77)[/caption]

You can print selfies, commemorative photos, your beloved pet – anything goes! You can also take a picture on the spot, and the cafe has even provided props like huge sunglasses for goofy photos. We heard that some people even printed their idol’s faces onto the coffee! Talk about dedication.

[caption id="attachment_28880" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Is Pokemon still relevant? (Image Credit: @larvitar)[/caption]

After you’ve ordered, you will send your selfie or photo to a printing machine, which will ‘print’ your photo onto the whipped cream layer to create an exact color coffee.

If you intend to take 10,000 shots of your selfie coffee, go for an iced latte or frappe, as the picture can last up to an hour on cold drinks. Your face will dissolve in a hot drink in about 5 minutes – which is simply not long enough to admire your selfie!

[caption id="attachment_28883" align="aligncenter" width="293"] Are we seeing double? (Image Credit: @natasha.pye)[/caption]

Go for the novelty, stay for the coffee

Their coffee and frappes also come in a variety of flavors, like Salted Caramel, Matcha, Butterscotch, Caramel Macchiato, and White Chocolate just to name a few. The best yet: Horlicks fans will be thrilled to know that the selfie frappe also comes in Horlicks flavor.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BW2yuqvAGpV/

Even though having a selfie coffee on a drink is a novelty, the cafe strives to provide delicious coffee that has people returning. The owner said that he didn’t want the selfie coffee to be one-time thing.

Besides coffee, there is also a selection of teas, non-caffeineated ice blended drinks, pies and cakes. Complete your insta-worthy flat lay with a slice of rainbow cake!

These Fiery Foods Are So Spicy, They Should Come With A Warning Sign

They say you’re not a true Singaporean unless you can take spicy food.

If you’re one of those people who take (sick) pleasure in taking on the spiciest foods the world has to offer, here’s a list of restaurants that serve flaming hot dishes sure to satisfy your sky-high spiciness tolerance.

Brace yourself – it’s going to be a fiery hot affair up ahead.

1. Southwest Tavern

Passing by, Southwest Tavern might look like any other diner serving your usual burgers and steak. This is where you’ll find the Spaghetti from Hell Challenge, where you’ll have to finish a whole plate of spaghetti in 10 minutes.

Before you take up this challenge, you’ll have to sign an indemnity form – that should be an indicator of how spicy this unassuming plate of spaghetti is.

[caption id="attachment_28279" align="aligncenter" width="2184"] Image Credit: Image Credit: Aimakan[/caption]

Another must-try here are the Suicide Wings ($22/6 pcs). Like its name, the well-marinated wings contain a mix of two fiery peppers. It’s so hot, it could literally burn your throat.

Tradehub 21, 8 Boon Lay Way #01-33, Singapore 609964

3. Face to Face Noodle House

[caption id="attachment_28850" align="aligncenter" width="590"] Image Credit: Face to Face Noodle House

The anchovies, minced pork and an onsen egg are tossed together with the homemade springy egg noodle, resulting in a crunchy and fragrant bowl of noodles. Also, the dried chilli adds a spicy and piquant mix of flavours to the whole dish.

One thing we love is that the chilli is served on the side, so you can choose to spam as much as you want for added shiokness!

For those who love ramen and spice, you’re in for a treat!

Ikkousha Hakata Ramen serves God Fire Ramen ($13.50), where you can choose how spicy you want your ramen, from level 1 to 4.

When ordering, bear in mind that level 2 already poses quite a challenge to some. The texture of the noodles is springy while the ajitama egg makes a flavourful accompaniment to the overall dish. The flavours are perfectly balanced, with the spiciness not overpowering or taking away from the original flavour of the broth.

5. Ramen Champion

Another palace that offers quality ramen in a terrifyingly red-hot broth is Ramen Champion.

[caption id="attachment_28291" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Image Credit: Chope[/caption]

The Red Hell Ramen ($16.50) is definitely not for the faint of heart.

The thick broth is flavourful and a huge comfort during rainy weather. Compared to other ramen-specialty places, Ramen Champion is especially generous with their pork slices, which literally cover the noodles.

Known for its legendary Buffalo Wings, you can choose your own spiciness level from 1 to 35. The notorious wings at Level 35 are so spicy that apparently, just having the plate in front of you can bring tears to your eyes.

Anyone brave enough to conquer Level 35 will have their name forever etched onto Sunset’s wall for their amazing accomplishment.
