A Mecca For Music Lovers – This Record Store On Ann Siang Hill Transforms Into A Bar At Night

With Spotify, YouTube and Apple Music, we have a world of music quite literally at our fingertips. But for old school audiophiles and aficionados of analog audio, there’s something so satisfying of about the experience of buying a vinyl record. There’s just something about slipping a shiny new record out of its sleeves, placing it on a turntable and gently dropping the needle.

Which is a far more elaborate process than just hitting “next” on Spotify.

Nestled within the quaint neighbourhood of Ann Siang Hill, White Label Records is a hip record store by day and transforms into a bar by night.

Make Vinyl Great Again

After five years of sharing their deep love for music and its most iconic recording format through the social e-commerce platform #vinyloftheday, founders Kurt Loy and Darren Tan took the plunge with the launch of their first brick-and-mortar venture.

Serving as a community space for music enthusiasts, White Label offers the perfect experience as one can relax and kick back over food and drinks, thumb through records, catch DJs and live acts, and meet other crate diggers.

Apart from stocking a current selection of records and highlights from various eras, White Label will feature a regularly rotating, curated selection of offerings from local and regional record stores so there’s always something new waiting for you each time you visit the store.

For hardcore analog audio enthusiasts, you can expect many special music-themed nights to follow as the founders will showcase vinyl records from their diverse personal collections. Who knows, if you like what you hear, they will be more than happy to help you track down a copy!

With warm-toned lighting illuminating the space, White Label provides a casual, laid back space and chill vibes from the moment you enter the store.

A record store by day, this space transforms into a bar by dusk, offering a rotating all day that features a selection of cold brews, mixed drinks, craft beers and bar bites. All beers and house pours are $10 nett.

White Label’s signature cocktails will include a Vodka-based fresh fruit Mojito, the White Label Iced Tea, a tea-based Long Island, as well as a Chrysanthemum vodka martini. A seasonal selection of handpicked single malts and gin, craft beers, boutique champagne and wines will also be available.

If you’re craving for a meal, limited lunch sets will be available at midday, on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Holey Moley! This New Mini Golf Bar At Clarke Quay Serves 1.3kg Burgers And Metre-Long Pizzas

Posting on social media, online shopping and calling your ex — there are some things that you should never do when you’re drunk.

On the flip side, however, certain activities are infinitely more fun with a little alcohol in your system, and mini golf is one of them.

In fact, mini golf could very well be the perfect drinking activity, because (1) it can work with any number of people (2) doesn’t require much physical effort, and (3) usually takes place in a safe, enclosed space under the supervision of people with saner minds.

At this point you might be thinking “sounds good, Internet guy, but there’s no place in Singapore where you can do this”.

Well, that’s about to change this December.

A New Kind Of Drinking Hole

That’s right: Holey Moley — a half mini golf, half bar concept from Australia — is making its way to Singapore at the end of the year.

Not much has been revealed at this point, but what we do know is that it’ll be fittingly located in Clarke Quay (the former site of Shanghai Dolly, for those of you who know where that is), and will feature a whopping 27 holes split across two floors.

In true mini gold fashion, these won’t look like boring driving ranges either — each hole will feature a pop culture theme ranging from Game of Thrones to Monopoly, and there’ll even be a hawker centre one for that touch of local flavour.

Throw a little neon lighting into the mix, and you just might have your new favourite Instagram spot.

If you get the munchies halfway through your tee time, Holey Moley’s got you covered there as well.

Their food menu features decadent selections like American burgers with neon-coloured buns, A 1.3kg monster burger, and “pizza served by the metre”, which — if it is what we think it is — could be the best thing ever.

Holey Moley will open its doors on the 6th of December, and if for some reason you have to be first in line, you can reserve a spot at their website right now.

Sounds a lot more fun than squeezing in a club and paying for overpriced drinks, that’s for sure.

21Moonstone Lets You Revisit Your Youth With Arcade Games, Cheap Booze, And Old School Snacks

Singapore has seen its fair share of bars situated in odd locations, from Smoke & Mirrors, the rooftop bar at the National Gallery Singapore, to The Library, which is hidden behind a bookcase.

Enter 21Moonstone, a bar located on the 9th floor of an old office building.

Situated on the 9th floor of Poh Leng Building at 21 Moonstone Lane (hence the name), this space is a creative co-working studio by day and a beer house by night – at least on Fridays and Saturdays.

A drastic change of pace from the trendy bars and swanky watering holes of Singapore, this bar is laidback and arty.

Think: exposed ceilings, mismatched lights, furniture, floorboards, art scattered around the space, and a giant traditional Chinese signboard!

Did you know most of the resources here are crowdsourced or donated by users of the space?

If you need some air, there is also outdoor seating (and standing) for you and your friends to make yourselves at home.

Great Minds Think Alike

21Moonstone was the brainchild of 4 friends who realised that they needed a communal space not just to work at but to hang out at.

Founded by Yang Er Tan, Jeremy Lim, Vincent Ho, and Narelle Kheng (of The Sam Willows!), each of them brings their own experience and knowledge to the table.

Welcoming freelancers, artists, photographers, and other creative minds, their intention is to establish a safe space for exchanging and generating new ideas.

Where Artistry Meets Celebrity

Considering that one of 21Moonstone’s founders is a celebrity in her own right, the place is no stranger to celebrities.

Drop by for some good, cheap alcohol, and who knows? You may even bump into some familiar faces!

21Moonstone is all about creating a casual setting for big groups of friends to chill and unwind. There’s even an old school arcade machine and card games you and your party can help yourselves to!

21Moonstone’s menu is straightforward, with a trim list of beers, ciders and a secret food menu.

You can’t go wrong with a bottle of Asahi ($8 per bottle) beer. If you’re looking for a change, we hear the Westmalle Trappist Dubbel ($12 per bottle) is founder Jeremy Lim’s personal favourite.

If you get the munchies, the bar offers old school snacks such as Muruku Ikan and Super Ring. Comfort foods such as nachos, seaweed chicken and luncheon meat are also available!

Because most of the food served here are simple finger foods, we recommend you come after dinner. Otherwise, there’s a good Fishhead Steamboat/Tze Char place downstairs called Tian Wai Tian where you can fill your stomachs before you go to 21Moonstone.

A low-key bar that’s big on good vibes, end your week on a good note at 21Moonstone!

This S’pore Bar Charges You Based On The Hour – The Earlier You Drink, The Happier Your Wallet

Hey there, Singapore After Nine is back with a new find!

Situated just off Clarke Quay, this new gem is located at the peaceful 11 Keng Cheow Road. For those in the know, Stickies Bar has come to be synonymous with 3 things: food, fun and affordability. 

It’s a game cafe, diner and bar, all rolled into one – the Holy Grail for lovers of games, food and booze.

While the merry-making usually begins after dark at most bars, Stickies Bar keeps its fires burning round the clock.

This means you’ve got a good option for lunch, and a place to chill after the sun goes down. Stickies Bar offers great promotions and dishes up some tasty food, so you don’t go hungry in between shots.

We at DiscoverSG popped in to take a look and lo and behold, it was indeed all fun and games at Stickies Bar.

They’ve got game…

It has a pool table that’s open at all hours, which you can play to no end.

There’s also a PlayStation 4, with a huge range of games including Mortal Kombat and FIFA 17. The best thing? Stickies Bar doesn’t charge any user fees!

If darts are more up your alley, dart boards are also on the ready.

What’s a game place without some good ol’ party games? Stickies Bar has a shelf packed full of them including Exploding Kittens, Uno-Jenga, Saboteur, and more! If you’re a sucker for the classics, they’ve even got chess!

And finally, how can we do without party favourite, Beer Pong?

Games aside, we loved how customers could plug their music devices to the speaker system and play their own songs! Blast your favourite tunes and feel right at home with your own jams playing in the background!

Next, we got a taste of what the kitchen had to offer.

What’s for dinner?

1. Appetizer Party Platter (NA)

To start things off, we were served a very special party platter—special because it’s nowhere on the menu. We got to try a mix of cheesy curly fries ($11), popcorn chicken ($11), chicken karaage ($12) and sesame wings ($14).

These bites stayed crisp long after they were served and we loved that they didn’t come dripping with oil!

2. Soup of the Day ($4)

The soup of the day when we were there was tomato soup, a rich, tangy soup topped with crisp squares of garlic bread. The tomato flavour was strong, but it was a little too sour for my liking. Then again, if you like your soup with a little more zestiness, this would be it.

The soup of the day here is changed up regularly. Some days, they serve the classic mushroom soup, and on other days, they serve a cheesy broccoli soup. As for the others…. We’ll leave you to discover them for yourself!

3. 10-inch 4 Cheese Pizza ($13)

Think you know what a pizza looks like? This thin-crusted wonder will surprise you!

Topped with a decadent mix of 4 cheeses–mozzarella, parmesan, cheddar, and nacho cheese–this pizza is a serious game changer. The crust was crisp, and there was (surprisingly!) enough crust to balance out all that cheesy goodness. The cheesy flavours were complemented by the additional top-up of turkey ham, and the pizza came lightly seared.

4. Beef Lasagna ($14)

Beef layered between sheets of pasta, bathed in flavourful bolognese sauce… If that sounds good, it tasted even better. As we sliced our forks through the layers of meat and pasta, they came away with stringy strands of cheese. The pasta could have done with a little more resistance, but hey, we all have our preferences. The dish was served with a salad on the side, drizzled with a yummy homemade sesame dressing.

5. Flamélicious Spicy Chicken Quesadilla ($18)

This Flamélicious Spicy Chicken Quesadilla was the highlight of our night!

Spicier than Stickies Bar’s waitresses, this dish had us gulping down cups of water in between mouthfuls. Sandwiched within a crispy, toasted quesadilla shell was a generous helping of gooey, stringy cheese and fiery chicken pieces, tender and marinated with 3 secret spices.

Thankfully, the shell managed to stay intact despite the substantial fillings inside it, making it a much less messy affair than it could have been.

Besides the array of games and facilities, Stickies Bar has some sweet deals you’d be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. Considering the quality of the grub here, these promos are the real deal.

3. Raspberry Milo Moonshine – The Secret Mermaid

By day, this space operates as an unassuming Shinkansen, a Japanese Salad Bar, in the CBD. But once dusk falls, it transforms into The Secret Mermaid.

Also known for it’s cafe of the same name, Maison Ikkoku Bar is situated right above it. There, amidst the cosy chic vibe going on, you will find their gutsy Tomyum Martini.

A concoction leaning on the savoury side with salty, sour and peppery notes, it has a lingering spiciness that may prove too exotic for some.
