Bubble Tea Buns Are A Thing Now – BreadTalk Launches Earl Grey Buns And Swiss Rolls With Pearls

Looks like bubble tea craze isn’t dying any time in Singapore.

BreadTalk just stepped up their game with their latest bubble tea buns and toasts which starts from $1.90.

Taking Bubble Tea To New Heights

If your go to order at your favourite bubble tea shop is Earl Grey Milk Tea, then you’ll love their new buns.

Celebrated in an unexpected form, the Earl Grey Bubble Tea Bun ($1.90) features an Earl Grey tea infused dough filled with Earl Grey tea infused cream and paired with pearls, making each bite an aromatic and chewy treat.

We were pleasantly surprised by how soft the pearls were as compared to the chewy texture we’re all used to.

If that isn’t good enough for you, they also come in toast ($2.90) and roll ($8.50) forms!

The Early Grey Bubble Tea Roll ($8.50) features an airy, light and fluffy Swiss roll wrapped around an Earl Grey Tea infused cream filling with chewy pearls. This roll makes for the perfect afternoon snack or post dinner treat.

However, bubble tea-based food aren’t the only Taiwanese items that BreadTalk’s introducing.

Inspired by the delicious mash-up of street snacks and familiar local delicacies, BreadTalk has also created a range of baked treats that will take you on a journey through Taiwan food markets.

Relive the nights of walking through Raohe Night Market with their range of Taiwanese street food buns. The Pepper Bun ($1.90) is filled spiced minced pork and flavourful spring onion, seasoned with a good dose of white pepper and topped with white sesame.

Just like the ones they make in Taiwan, the buns are crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside.

For those craving a sweet treat, the Sweet Potato Red Bean ($2.00) is a delightful bun filled with red beans from Wandan in Taiwan, known for its rich flavours, sweet potato, boluo crumble and sprinkled with Matcha Powder.

You can find these items at all BreadTalk outlets, except for:

BreadTalk Buns Are Going For Only $1 On Their 18th Anniversary

Singapore’s very own BreadTalk is finally coming of age and turning 18 this month! Time really flies.

Anyway, the lovely creators of the pork floss bun hype in Singapore are celebrating their 18th anniversary with a few new additions to their signature product.

That’s not all, they’ll also be running a few promotions in July and August, where you can get their baked goods for $1!

What’s In Store In July

A New Flosss Flavour

BreadTalk has had many variations of their signature Flosss bun, with Wasabi Flosss, Sambal Chicken Flosss, and Black Pepper Crab Flosss.

Now, they’re introducing a new limited edition addition (say this quickly 10 times) – Golden Lava Flosss.

This new creation features ‘golden lava’ a.k.a salted egg filling and it’s topped with cereal floss, a local favourite in tze char stalls.

Imagine salted egg sauce with cereal floss. It sounds really good, to be honest. The Golden Lava Flosss will be available for 2 months, from 2 July to 2 September 2018.

What’s more, from 2 to 22 July 2018, mix and match any 6 flosss flavours at any BreadTalk outlet for just $8!

$1 Buns, Tea Cakes And Muffins

From 9 to 16 July 2018, you can purchase tea cakes, muffins and a selection of 18 types of buns for just $1 each, from 12pm onwards!

Some of the buns in the selection include the Butter Sugar Loaf, An Pan, Coffi-O, Croissant, and Pillow Raisin.

The promotion is valid while stocks last so don’t dilly dally!

If you miss this first round of $1 promotions, don’t worry. From 17 to 29 July 2018, purchase from the same selection of 18 buns – the first bun will go at its original price and you’ll get the 2nd bun for $1.

That’s not all, BreadTalk’s signature Hokkaido Snow Roll will retail for just $10.90 instead of the usual $15.80.

What’s In Store In August

BreadTalk Celebrates National Day

This year, BreadTalk is the principal partner of National Day Parade 2018, which means we’re getting new breads with locally-inspired flavours!

First up, the new Chilli Crab Puff ($2.20). No prizes for guessing what inspired this. Real crab meat is used in the chilli crab mixture that’s encased in flaky puff pastry, baked to perfection.

Toast Box’s 1933 Restaurant – A Food Blast To The Past

1933? Why not 1954? Or 1965? Or any other year for that matter?

Turns out, this nostalgic restaurant helmed by Toast Box is named after the year the Capitol Theatre was first opened. Located in the middle of Capitol, this 2-storey restaurant is pretty hard to miss.

With its revamped menu, 1933 now presents a range of Nanyang-inspired dishes that we’re confident will impress both locals and non-locals. We started with the Forest Mushroom ($6.90) and boy were we pleasantly surprised with the crunchiness of the bread bowl. We’re not proud of it, but we ended up ditching our cutleries and went for the bread with our hands instead. #dontjudge

The Luncheon Fries ($5.90) are pretty much like your usual SPAM fries but its accompanying sweet chili sauce made all the difference. The Hainanese-style Satay ($8.90/6 sticks) on the other hand, blew us away. Succulent and tender, the bursting smoky flavors of the charcoal-grilled meat hit us like a wrecking ball. In a good way. The only gripe we have however, is the size of the satays. Please sir, can we have some more?

Moving on to the mains, the Hainanese Chicken Rice ($12.90) was a delight. Though more expensive than your Kopitiam version, the quality of this dish is worth its price. Served with fragrant rice cooked in chicken broth, a side of bean sprouts, a platter of chicken, a small plate of kang kong, and a bowl of soup, this dish is pretty much a meal by itself.

If you’re a fan of spicy dishes and Toast Box’s laksa, the Laksa Pasta ($13.90) is definitely the dish to go for. A local favorite with an Italian twist, the chef did a more than decent job in marrying the two. The taste of laksa is very evident despite the pasta’s dryness but as non-chili enthusiasts, we thought the dish was a tad spicy. So if you’re like us, do keep a drink handy which in our case, was the Berry Bliss ($5.50), a perfect blend of fresh mixed berries, mint and lemonade to douse the laksa fire.

To complete our meal, we had the decadent Gula Melaka Pandan Cake ($7.90), a soft pandan chiffon caked baked with bits of palm sugar and served with Gula Melaka syrup.

The prices may not be very 1933, but this revamped menu does offer some pretty good dishes. So if you’re in town and are game to try local food with a unique twist, take a trip to 1933 and who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised.
