Sentosa Sandsation Returns With A MARVEL-lous Array Of Superheroes – Runs From 1-16 Sept

It is safe to say that we are still reeling in from the aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War but it’s not over yet. Polish your shields because your favourite superheroes are taking over Siloso Beach this September holidays.

Southeast Asia’s biggest sand festival, Sentosa Sandsation, is set to return bigger and better from 1 – 16 September in a never-before seen MARVEL Edition.

The Sentosa Sandsation: MARVEL Edition exhibition will feature 15 larger-than-life sand sculptures of popular MARVEL Super Heroes such as Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and Hulk, and another 14 sculptures crafted from scratch in the Sentosa International Sand Sculpting Championship.

Sandcastles Assemble

Over 10 days, your favourite MARVEL characters took shape on Sentosa’s Siloso Beach as sand sculptors from all over the world brought a whole stable of superheroes and villains to life!

Swopping in at Siloso Beach, Iron Man, Captain America, Dr Strange, Thor, just to name a few, will arise from the sands under the hands of internationally-acclaimed sculptor JOOheng Tan and his team.

That’s right. From 1 to 16 September 2018, all Singapore residents will get free entry into Sentosa as the island gears up for Southeast Asia’s largest sand festival, the Sentosa Sandsation: MARVEL Edition!

Free Admission For All Modes Of Entry

Whether you’re entering via the Sentosa Express trains or driving in with Singapore-registered vehicles, admission fees will be waived.

What’s more, there will also be a competition where 14 of the world’s best sand sculptors will take part in a MARVEL-themed sand sculpting showdown.

You can catch the sand sculptors at work if you visit Sentosa from 1 to 3 September 2018.

The Avengers Have Assembled At ArtScience Museum To Celebrate 10 Years Of Marvel Studios

It seems like yesterday when we were first introduced to the cocky genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist that is Tony Stark, aka Iron Man.

But it’s been a decade! Can you believe it? 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I was in secondary school when the first in a long series of Marvel movies made its debut and now we’re already on the 3rd Avengers movie and Phase 3 of the MCU is almost complete.

In commemoration of this milestone, the ArtScience Museum is showcasing the past 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in their upcoming exhibition, Marvel Studios: Ten Years Of Heroes.

10 Years, 20 Films, 1 Studio

Opening tomorrow, 9 June 2018 till 30 September 2018, the exhibition will be an immersive and interactive Marvel experience for all fans.

Split into 10 distinct galleries, each section focuses on a film or a specific member of the Avengers and features life-size replicas (like the one you saw at NEX before the premiere of Avengers: Infinity War), visual and multimedia displays, as well as interactive showcases.

If you’re a big fan of Iron Man, (you must be an aspiring entrepreneur) then you should check out the Iron Man gallery where 30 different Iron Man suits are on full display together with a 5-metre tall replica of said hero.

Those on the other side of the Avengers Civil War can head over to the Captain America gallery where you can view a holographic video of Captain America’s different shields. Like a catalogue.

You can also see a replica of the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier, with a screen in the background playing the scene in the first Avengers movie of it taking to the skies.

If you loved the Black Panther movie (honestly, who DIDN’T?), head over to the Black Panther gallery, step into Wakanda and explore the wonders of Shuri’s lab.

Or enter the Microverse in the next gallery and see the Ant-Man and the Wasp through a magnifying glass.

For a more interactive experience, head over to the Guardians of the Galaxy gallery and have a “dance-off” with Baby Groot or the Doctor Strange gallery (the Sanctum Sanctorum, to the few cultured ones out there) where you can attempt to “bend reality” with a little help from modern technology.

Step into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and relive all the past films at this ArtScience Museum exhibition from 9 June to 30 September 2018.

Tickets for Singaporeans go for $16 per adult, $12 for senior citizens and children, and $45 for a family package of 2 adults and 2 kids.

There’s A Guy Flying Around Near City Hall And People Are Calling Him Iron Man

There is a video making its rounds on social media and it’s of a man flying around with a jetpack; people are already calling him Singapore’s Iron Man.

For a good 50s of the 1:50 long clip, you’ll see (and hear) his jetpack whirring to life, before he’s lifted off the ground and starts flying around at an area near city hall.

The man beneath the suit is British inventor Richard Browning. The 38 year old who was formerly a commodities trader began with a mission to “have a huge amount of fun trying to do something that was considered impossible”.

Now, he has in his hands a suit that’s garnered attention from search-and-rescue agencies, military researchers and Hollywood producers. He’s not the only one with a suit like this, with early prototypes of the suit already sold to “high net worth” individuals to the tune of half a million dollars.

Weighing 45kg, the six-engine suit can go “as high and as fast as you like”. While the demonstration was rather modest, the suit can apparently go up to thousands of feet in the air, and reach speeds of around 450kmh. Maneuvered using the arms, the suit allows its wearer to turn, stop and go in three dimensions.

Want one for yourself? Unfortunately, the suit has a ways to go before it can be viable for purposes such as public transportation. In the meantime, we’ll just have to be content with watching from afar.
