The Singaporean Bucket List – 10 Challenges You Die Die Must Complete
Boy does time fly. With half of the year now gone, it’s time to do possibly to a mini reflection, to ask if you’ve done anything worthy of a #throwback post for your future social media feeds. Oh the troubles of millennials, are we right?
Seriously, though, if you’re looking to create worthy memories you can churn into bar talk, here’s a bucket list of 10 challenges to complete before the year ends.
1. Go On A Solo Bike Trip
https://www.instagram.com/p/BFgfupiqljt/?taken-at=209931
You’ve heard about all the good things about Pulau Ubin. How about taking things up a notch and experiencing them through a solo bike tour? Rental bike shops are aplenty on the island and once you’re good to go, cycle along the dedicated cycling track into the wetlands and see for yourself the beauty of the island.
The off-road track (especially the uphill climb) might get a little tough for the inexperienced cyclists but trust us, the scenery is worth all the effort. A little tip from us: check out the 2. Re-Visit Haw Par Villa
https://www.instagram.com/p/BFeSY5Qyn2x/?taken-at=214263195 Whilst Tiger Balm is a great invention, Haw Par Villa, the home of the Aw brothers, isn’t exactly the most youngster-friendly of spots. Remember being scared witless by the countless sculptures situated all around the premise? Or the Ten Courts of Hell that had you promise your parents that you’ll never, ever lie to them again? Now that you’re all grown-up and brave, take the chance to re-visit the park and see what Haw Par Villa really is about. It may come as a surprise, but hidden behind the sculptures are some very meaningful moral values we can learn from. For the thrill-seekers, get some extra ‘hao pa’ (Chinese translation: scared ) experience by visiting the place during the Hungry Ghost Festival. We dare you. https://www.instagram.com/p/BG1O3nsv0PH/?taken-at=214263195&hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/BG4cvAjjMC-/?taken-at=214263195&hl=en Haw Par Villa Measuring a good 9km, the Southern Ridges trail consists of four parks spanning across the western half of Singapore. Several parts of the trail are suspended high above the canopy, giving hikers a great view comprising of the contrast between Singapore’s modern buildings and the primaeval greenery around the trail. The most scenic part of the hike can be found in the section between Hort Park and Mount Faber. The Southern Ridges Walk is pretty accessible, where you can choose to enter from West Coast Park, Kent Ridge Park, Hort Park or Mount Faber Park. Do note that anything with wheels (bicycles, roller skates) are not allowed on most of the trail! https://www.instagram.com/p/BG6IT1dCI9a/?tagged=southernridgestrail&hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/BEnWPSbgyWO/?tagged=southernridgestrail&hl=en https://www.instagram.com/p/BCAphewNqT4/?tagged=mollymalonesingapore&hl=en Do you know how many Storm Troopers appeared in Empire Strikes Back? Can you name all the members of Backstreet Boys? Whether you’re a walking Wikipedia or someone who loves quizzes, attend for a trivia night and have some fun with your friends! There are a few bars that host trivia night but our personal favourite will have to be Molly Malone’s Quiz Night, held on Mondays 7.30pm. They usually cover a variety of genres, ranging from movies to fashion. Got your A game on? Stand a chance to walk away with a bucket of St. Miguel/St. Miguel light. Not available on Mondays? Then it’s time to recruit your friends and take on an Escape Room challenge! The game objective is too simple: solve the puzzles and escape from a locked room within a given time. The difficulty levels and themes vary according to the type or rooms you pick. We’re pretty blessed to have a variety of escape games available here in Singapore-,
https://www.instagram.com/p/BG49pKrOInR/?tagged=silosobeach Sentosa is famous for its 3 beaches – Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong. It’s hard to say which is better than the other so why not experience all three beaches on the same day? We suggest you start your beach hopping with the Siloso Beach, followed by lunch or a picnic at Palawan before relaxing at Tanjong. Do check out our Beach Guide before if you’re intending on planning a beach day out! https://www.instagram.com/p/_wOYwrBFPa/?tagged=pahlawanbeach https://www.instagram.com/p/BG3t57bCrZy/?taken-at=1371397 https://www.instagram.com/p/BGZNN0zluUi/?taken-at=912509 This is obviously not for the faint-hearted. You’ve probably heard of the Old Changi Hospital, but have you tried exploring the abandoned Fort Serapong, and Old Tanglin Camp? Whilst you’re at it, strap on a camera, film your adventure and make your very own ‘True Singapore Ghost Stories’. But remember, safety is of utmost importance and try to be respectful when visiting these places. https://www.instagram.com/p/_drI69KWAk/?tagged=fortserapong https://www.instagram.com/p/zUFYPnHi49/?tagged=neotiewestate https://www.instagram.com/p/BGotSjhsDU-/?taken-at=164558236 One of the biggest food trend in Singapore this 2016 has got to be having the salted egg yolk in every dish. 5 Spots in SG To Catch The Sunrise Of Your Lifetime!
Google Singapore and you’ll most likely find shots of our skyscrapers or icons such as the Merlion and Victoria Theatre. But did you also know that hidden in Singapore are spots that provide you with breathtaking views of the sunrise?
Whether you’re a guy scouting for a venue for your next romantic date or a professional photographer who’s looking to capture the next insta-worthy shot, here are 5 places where you can catch the perfect sunrise. Who knows, you may just be the next Darren Soh.
1. Marina Bay
[caption id="attachment_7630" align="alignnone" width="800"] Image Credits: reddotphoto.com.sg[/caption]This may be a no-brainer, but Marina Bay is the perfect sunrise spot in Singapore. The sun rises from between Marina Bay Sands and the Art Science Museum, giving you the perfect frame. Plus, Marina Bay is pretty accessible by public transport so getting there in the wee hours of the morning shouldn’t be too difficult. That is minus the part of actually having to wake up before the sunrise.
Tips
There are many angles/ spots to catch the sunrise, but the most popular spot for photographers is to be at the Merlion Park. The view from there is spectacular as you’ll be able to capture the Singapore Flyer, Art Science Museum, and the Marina Bay Sands building. The best time to be at the location is around 6:30am, as the sun usually rises at around 7am.
2. Changi Broadwalk
[caption id="attachment_7631" align="alignnone" width="595"] Image Credits: jpics.blog.com[/caption]Since the sun rises from the east, it wouldn’t make sense not to head to the most eastern part of Singapore to catch the sunrise, right? Located at the extreme end of Singapore, Changi Broadwalk, remains as one of the most popular places where Singaporean photographers go to get their beautiful sunrise photos. With the sun rising above the calm sea waters and the sound of waves hitting the shore, it’s definitely a breathtaking sight to behold.
Tips
The sunrise can be admired from anywhere along the broadwalk and beach, so there is no specific spot to catch the sunrise. If you’re planning on heading down, we recommend that you make your way down to Changi Broadwalk by 6:15am. This will allow you to explore the place before the sun rises, to find a spot that is most comfortable for you. Changi Broadwalk is located close to Changi Point Ferry Terminal, so once you’ve found the ferry terminal, you’re at the right place!
3. Lower Seletar Reservoir Park
[caption id="attachment_7632" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Image Credits: Victor Cheah[/caption]Lower Seletar Reservoir Park has been a popular sunrise spot for many photographers in Singapore. The waters are still and people only start streaming in during midday. Grab a mat and a basket of snacks and you’re ready to have a romantic breakfast by the banks of the reservoir with the sunrise as your backdrop. Lower Seletar Reservoir is quite a distance from Khatib MRT and is a 10 minute walk from the nearest bus stop, but the stunning view will more than make up for the travelling.
Tips
Walk along the banks of Lower Seletar Reservoir Park and you’ll be able to find many comfortable spots to catch the sunrise. Most photographers like to camp out at the heritage bridge for their sunrise shots. It’s best to be at Lower Seletar Reservoir Park by 6:30am this will allow you to find the location that suits you the most!
4. East Coast Park
[caption id="attachment_7633" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Image Credits: Singapore1696.rssing.com[/caption]East Coast Park is a popular place for roller-bladers and cycling enthusiasts. Head there during the day and you’ll find many cycling and playing along its sandy shores. But head there in the morning, and you’ll be greeted with a gorgeous sunrise. It is best to get there by car, and having a bike with you would come in handy when you’re looking for the perfect spot.
Tips
The sunrise can be caught from anywhere along the beach. It’s best to arrive at East Coast Park early as the carparks are located quite a distance away from the beach.
5. Pulau Ubin
[caption id="attachment_7634" align="alignnone" width="1024"] Image Credits: Stephen Teo Photography[/caption]If you’re up for an adventure, head down to Pulau Ubin! Besides being a spectacular sunrise spot, Pulau Ubin is also home to other activities such as trekking, cycling and fishing, all of which you can do after the catching the sunrise.
Tips
Once you’ve arrived on the island, head towards the Jelutong Campsite. The best spot to catch the sunrise is along the sandy beaches located just a short 5 minutes walk from the jetty. It is best to explore Pulau Ubin beforehand so as to familiarise yourself with the place. Remember to bring along flashlights, insect repellent and water.
Directions
To get to Pulau Ubin, you’ll have to take a short boat ride from Changi Point Ferry Terminal. The ferry costs $3/person for a one way trip. An additional fee of $2 is charged if you’re bringing your own bicycle. There is no specific operating time for the ferry service and the boat leaves the jetty when the minimum number of 12 people is met. Alternatively, you can request for an express charter ferry service for $36 and the boat will leave immediately. We recommend to make special arrangements with the ferry operator the day before, to ensure that the ferry is in operation.
There you have it, the 5 best sunrise spots in Singapore. Now you can start planning for that dream date or photoshoot!

The bike trail at East Coast Park spans all the way to Changi Beach, and you may choose to paddle the whole trail for serious workout, or just some sections for healthy amusement. Furthermore, whenever you need to catch your stamina back, just stop by at the East Coast food centre to enjoy a cup of rejuvenating sugarcane juice.

This is not to be mistaken with the Punggol Waterway. Punggol Point has wide pavement for you to enjoy coastline cycling to the fullest. At Changi Point Coastal Walk, you can paddle the whole 2.2 kilometers trail, consists a mixture of terrains such as beach, cliff, kelong and along the terrace of a sailing club. Actually, this trail is kinda “connected” with East Coast Park, and you can cycle all the way here from the McDonald’s there.

https://www.instagram.com/p/__bwpQm7yl/
https://www.instagram.com/p/_x9JeSHn1c/
As one of Singapore’s favorite cycling trails, this nature reserve is quiet, kinda secluded, and, other than the odd mini bus, free of traffic, allowing you to explore and cycle for leisure. Families with tots may paddle peacefully in this leafy Singapore’s last kampong, which can be reached by only 5 minutes boat ride from Changi Point ferry terminal.
For more “serious” workout and adventure, you may join a guided ride-along (starting from SGD50) and explore places off the beaten track, like a rock quarry and inter-tidal area Chek Jawa.
One of the bonus at Pulau Ubin, is that you can rent a bicycle at a cheap price here; a good mountain bike goes at around SGD12 to SGD15 for the whole day.

The less famous West Coast Park (if compared to its sibling at the eastern part), is actually a great place for some light cycling. Known as ‘Play Centre in the West’, the western part of West Coast Park has been transformed into a place for fun adventure seekers.
It has designated cycling track equipped with playground (to amuse your tots), beach, and white sands. When cycling chase away your stamina, just stop by and find McCafe for a refreshing Himalayan Tea Frappé.
