Lok No Further, Here Are The Best Lok Lok Spots In Singapore So You Don’t Have To Travel To JB
I’ll always remember the first time I ate Lok Lok out of a converted van in JB. Although it was a tad unhygienic, it was a truly fun and unique dining experience.
Lok Lok is a dish consisting of various deep-fried foods such as meats and vegetables that are served on a skewer and traditionally dipped into thick satay sauce.
Lok Lok is EXTREMELY underrated in Singapore. If you haven’t tried it, honestly why?
So here it is. Here’s a list of Lok Lok spots you can enjoy in Singapore so you don’t have to travel all the way to JB.

2. Chuan Le Xiang Lok Lok
This next one is a little bit out of the way but definitely worth the trip.
This old school Lok Lok dining experience is a passed-down 25-year Singapore family-kept recipe extracted from Satay Bee Hoon.
There’re three soup bases for you to choose from (chicken/mala/satay) but we highly recommend the satay base. Each base pot will cost you $8.
Best part, each stick goes as low as $1 so you know you’ll be leaving this place with a food coma.

If You’ve Always Wanted To Go To A Frat Party, There’s One Happening This Wednesday
If you’ve seen any American Pie movie or Bad Neighbours, you’d know that Hollywood has a rather dramatic portrayal of university life.
The insane frat parties, loud party music, kegs upon kegs of booze, and all the coolest kids in school.
[caption id="attachment_33922" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Image Credit: Club AVRY[/caption]The event, a collaboration between a group of university students and Club AVRY, will be happening this Wednesday, 11 April 2018.
Are you 18?
To enter, you will need to present your university matriculation card and ID. If you’re alumni, you may also use your old matriculation card. Entry is free for ladies and $10 for guys. It’s for the House Fund.
On top of that, everyone will get a free initiation drink on the house. Guests who wish to join Alpha Sigma will have to perform a special ritual and down a super drink before entry is granted. Classic frat house.
Each party will be powered by DJs from various universities. This week’s party will feature selected DJs from NUS.
During the party, look out for activities such as Beer Pong (of course), Beer Bong, and the Tequila boys who will be going around with water guns filled with vodka.
[caption id="attachment_33920" align="aligncenter" width="1200"] Image Credit: Image Credit: Mercado Libre[/caption]There’ll also be a Gummy Bear going around with a bag of alcoholic gummy bears.
Find and show him the number of Instastories you’ve taken at Alpha Sigma and he’ll give you a handful of vodka gummy bears corresponding to the number of Instastories you’ve taken.
And that’s not all. At the end of the night, Jello Shots will be given to all guests. Take a photo of yourself doing the Alpha sign, tag #Clout #AVRY #AlphaSigma, and upload it to Instagram.
[caption id="attachment_33923" align="aligncenter" width="720"] Image Credit: Liquor.com[/caption]Present the Instagram post at the door and every 20 likes gets you 1 free Jello Shot redemption coupon, with a maximum of 10 Jello Shots redeemable per person.
Beers go for $10 a bottle at Alpha Sigma. But if you think you’re a fast drinker, challenge the Beer Chugging Wall Of Fame.
[caption id="attachment_33924" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Image Credit: Studomat[/caption]Chug a beer as fast as you can and if you finish within the top 3 timings, you’ll get the bottle of beer for free!

Find, Reserve, And Go To Your Favourite Restaurant With Just Google Maps
Making reservations at restaurants is one of the things you learn to do as you grow into an adult but nobody enjoys long interactions with strangers.
Because we’re all awkward turtles, we’ve got some good news to share.
Today, Google announced that they’ve partnered with Chope, HungryGoWhere, and Quandoo to launch the new “Reserve with Google” feature.
That’s right, Singaporean users are now able to make reservations at their favourite restaurants directly on Google Maps and Search.
[caption id="attachment_33872" align="aligncenter" width="609"] Image Credit: Google[/caption]Because making a reservation has always been a bit of a hassle, Google is making that process more seamless.
Now you can just Google search for a restaurant, view its real-time availability, and make a reservation immediately by clicking on the “Find a table” button.
How To Make A Restaurant Reservation With Google
- Open Google Maps and search for a restaurant or tap on a restaurant you see on the map.
- Tap on the name of the restaurant for more information. If the restaurant uses OpenTable, you should see a “Find a table” button along with the available time slots.
- If you’re looking for a time slot that’s not listed, you can update the number of people you’re reserving for, and the specific time slot.
- You should be redirected to a confirmation page for your reservation once everything is done.
- A confirmation email from OpenTable will be sent to you shortly after confirmation.
Changing or cancelling reservations are also easy. Go to the confirmation email sent to you by OpenTable and just tap on Change or Cancel.
Also, if your Gmail is registered with OpenTable, you’ll get Dining Rewards points for your reservation.
Say goodbye to multiple redirections to different websites and frustratingly long waiting times for reservation calls!

The Royals franchise started out as a dessert and cake shop along East Coast Road. As business grew, they continued to open restaurants all over the city.
The Royals Steakhouse started business in 2015, in a little shophouse unit along Jalan Pisang serving premium quality Halal steaks from Australia and New Zealand.
In fact, the steak here is so good that they separate the sauces from the meat so you can truly taste the original flavour of the steak.
The Tomahawk steak seems like something from The Flintstones, but this huge slab of steak is perfect for sharing with family.
Priced at $9.50 per 100g, the Tomahawk steak typically weighs between 1.3kg – 1.5kg. The price is such a steal however for a limited time only as it is an introductory offer for their Tomahawk.

The Confessions Of An Artist
Professions in the arts sector may not come to mind when people discuss career options in Singapore. In fact, when you speak to any adult born before the ‘90s, they might even tell you that working in the arts sector isn’t a “real job”.
We hear from 5 artists about the misconceptions people have about their career choice, and why they find their job worthwhile.
1. Your Profession Is Frivolous
[caption id="attachment_33795" align="aligncenter" width="1280"] Image Credit: @yellowmushmellow[/caption]“People used to tell me that my job is child’s play, that it’s frivolous because all I do is “draw” and that it’s not productive.
I disagree – I believe that art can help to draw attention to taboo issues in society and help to create conversation.”
At the beginning of my career, acquiring projects was a problem, but now the biggest issue is finding a balance between what I want to create versus what others expect me to create.
To me, the biggest compliment is when people tell me that they can relate to my illustrations and artworks.
I have a permanent mural at The Fullerton Gallery, and I remember watching people appreciate my artwork when I was at the opening of the gallery. That was a very significant moment for me.”
- Aida, Illustrator
2. Can You Do It For Free?
[caption id="attachment_33796" align="aligncenter" width="1280"] Image Credit: @elwm.art[/caption]“Some clients have insisted that my art be created for free – or at my own cost – because it’s a community project, and within unrealistic timelines too. This undermines the value of the artist and the art that he/she creates.
Despite that, I still love working in the art industry. I conduct community workshops in heartlands and community centres. Some of the workshops that I’ve conducted are for Art Outreach at Gillman Barracks and Act3 International at ION Art Gallery.
Most of my workshops are catered for residents, ranging from children to senior citizens.
I feel fulfilled because I get the opportunity to inspire and influence people who attend my art workshops or volunteer at my community projects.
There was a family who told me that my art helped to bring them closer to one another. There was also a lady who told me that she was touched by my work because it depicted sights she could only see in her hometown back in India. These are moments that I live for.”
- Eunice, Multidisciplinary Artist
3. But You Don’t Look Like An Artist
[caption id="attachment_33797" align="aligncenter" width="1920"] Image Credit: @sarahchoojing[/caption]“I’m a multidisciplinary artist and I’ve been developing my practice for almost 10 years now.
However, till today, people still occasionally tell me things like “But you don’t look like an artist” which I find offensive because there is no such thing as a standard “artist” look.
My work usually depicts identifiable moments and characters within contemporary urban society, suggesting a plethora of private and often solitary narratives.
Nothing beats that rewarding feeling whenever I complete an artwork and seeing people appreciate it.”
- Sarah, Multidisciplinary Artist
4. He Mentioned That He Can Recreate My Artwork Using A Photo-Editing App
[caption id="attachment_33798" align="aligncenter" width="1280"] Image Credit: Ali Hanafiah[/caption]“I’ve been in the creative field for almost 13 years now, working as a Senior Graphic Designer and Photographer.
I picked up drawing when I was a kid because my mother realised that I didn’t enjoy reading and gave me comic books instead.
When I first started working, the feedback I received wasn’t good and people would tell me that I cannot ‘make it’ in Singapore if I remain in this line.
The worst thing I’ve ever heard was someone mention that he can recreate my artwork with a photo-editing app. But I don’t let that get to me.
I love to sketch my friends during their birthdays, and watching them receive and love the sketch really brings me joy. At least I know that I brightened someone else’s day.”
- Ali, Senior Graphic Designer/Photographer
5. People Think That My Art Is Vandalism
[caption id="attachment_33799" align="aligncenter" width="1280"] Image Credit: ZERO (Zul Othman)[/caption]“I’ve been a full-time artist since 2003, and I’m coming up to my 15th year in the industry. I am probably the only artist with a background in the graffiti and street art scene, to have won the National Arts Council Young Artist Award.
I remember once when I was painting in the middle of Orchard Road, I overheard a father tell his son that I was vandalising. There was another incident when I was told that my profession was not “real work”.
I feel sorry for people who have such a narrow-minded mentality as to what constitutes as a “real job”.
The most encouraging thing I’ve heard was that my work and what I do as an artist and researcher is significant to my community and in the advocacy of street art and graffiti practices in South East Asia.
My advice to young aspiring artists out there, is to stay humble and keep on learning.”
- Zul Othman (ZERO), Visual Artist
