For one night each week, the Science Centre Observatory offers free star-gazing sessions. Peer at the surrounding constellations in both the northern and southern celestial hemispheres through their super telescopes, and perhaps catch a meteoroid shower while you are it. Andromeda is also a lesser-known observatory where you catch glimpses of star clusters in the Andromeda Galaxy.
For a little more privacy, you can also try West Coast Park, Fort Canning Hill, (or any secluded spot far from the city lights, really!) in the evenings to immerse yourselves in the celestial spectacle.

The Summerhouse is a newly opened restaurant, cafe, garden, and bar tucked away amongst the conserved colonial bungalows at Seletar Aerospace.

6. The Garage
Just a stone’s throw away from Botanic Gardens MRT Station is The Garage, a two-storey colonial house now home to two dining concepts: Bee’s Knees and Botanico.
By day, Bee’s Knees serves hearty pizza, pasta, sandwiches, desserts, and coffee on the first floor.

3. St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival
The annual St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival is back for the seventh year in Singapore! It’s the ultimate music festival not to be missed.

8. Mak’s Noodle’s New Menu
Michelin-starred Mak’s Noodle, famous for its classic springy noodles and prawn wontons, has launched a new menu touting “the bigger, the better”.

We Hopped On The Makan Bus And Didn’t Wanna Get Off – Here’s Why!
Yup. Finally the first one-of-its-kind hop-on-hop-off Makan Bus tour has arrived in Singapore. Don’t dismiss this food tour as a tourist thingy yet. Otherwise, you are missing out on fun even locals can enjoy!
We all know Singapore is a food paradise, but the best local food are usually not near MRTs or in town.

Recently, I was fortunate to be invited for a free MakanBus tour. Getting on the tour meant I had the opportunity to taste some of the highly acclaimed local food along the 10 specially-curated stops.
What I did not know was it is more than a mere foodie bus bringing us from the central to northern heartlands in Singapore.

We received a warm welcome from the guide upon boarding the cheery yellow bus at Orchard Gateway. After an introduction, we set off!
Besides recommending good eats near each stop, he would share insights of noteworthy buildings throughout the journey too.

Interesting history that we never knew about our sunny island
We thought we knew Singapore so well since we grew up here.
But we did not know that the Burma Chinese settled in Singapore as early as the 19th century!
In fact, I highly recommend you to alight at the Sun Yat Sen Memorial stop, where the Sun Yat Sen Memorial and Burmese Buddhist Temple are.
In the main worship hall of the Maha Sasana Ramsi (Burmese Buddhist Temple) sits the majestic 11-foot marble Buddha statue. This religious landmark is the only Burmese Buddhist temple of its kind in Singapore.
The statue was carved from a 10-tonne slab of marble found in Burma’s Saygin Hill and transported here in 1925.

Discover yummy novel hawker food delights
While it’s obvious Makan Bus will bring you to yummy food places, you may be surprised at hidden gems within the heartlands.
Ang Mo Kio was the place I grew up in, and I thought I knew everything there. But I did not even know that there is a hawker stall selling sedap Mee Rebus Tarik for over 2 decades!

In case you are wondering, Mee Rebus Tarik is not prepared by simply “pulling” the noodles as the Malay word “tarik” implies.
Instead, the mee rebus is laden with satay gravy and served together with either chicken or mutton satay. Such an innovative twist to the signature mee rebus!
I have tasted different versions of our favourite Indian roti prata, with egg, cheese etc for enhanced flavour.
However, it was my first time trying out some Roti Tissue along Upper Thomson Road. The prata looked like an interesting thin piece of tissue (hence its name) as seen in the image above. This is a sweet crispy prata seasoned with sugar.
Hop on and off the bus whenever you wish, wherever you fancy
There is no limit to the number of times you can hop on and off the Makan Bus.
Your $28 ticket is valid throughout the day when the bus runs from 11am to 7.30pm.
Indeed, there were times when we were engaged in such interesting conversations with the guide that we missed alighting at the designated stop.
Just continue on the looped journey and alight where you wish to tuck into the good food in the desired area.
Furthermore, you do not need to alight if you don’t find anything you fancy. Unlike other expensive food tours where you don’t get to choose the food, this is a truly flexible tour!

May the 4th is an important day to all Star Wars fans and is celebrated worldwide. Although ‘Star Wars Day’ is not created by Lucasfilm, the film company that created this worldwide phenomenal has embraced the spirit of fandom that makes this day so special.
Partnering #MAYTHE4THSG, a Singaporean-based Star Wars fan collective, Kallang Wave Mall promises a fun-filled two-day celebration for all Star Wars fans, collectors, and families.
With their ‘base’ at the OCBC Square at Singapore Sports Hub, the festival will showcase all things Star Wars – from the original trilogy that began in 1977 to the latest Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Visitors can look forward to an eye-opening galactic experience and get up-close with screen-accurate Star Wars costumes, courtesy of the 501st Legion and Rebel Outpost.
If you think that sounds cool, we have even greater news for you. The Force Awakens’ panel by Lucasfilm will take place over both days of the event! Yes, you’ve heard people raving about it during Comic Con and now it’s your time to witness it with your own eyes.
For the juniors, check out FightSaber Kids Workshop and get into some ‘bdzzew bdzzew’ action. While they’re at it, sign them up for the Kids Fashion Parade too!
And the force doesn’t stop just right there. Everything For Free? Introducing SG’s Really Really Free Market!
Most people applaud those who have the bravery and heart to hoard as little as possible. That’s why there are books on minimalism, theories on only keeping things that matter, and documentary-slash-interventions on doing away with things you don’t need.
There’s also a certain joy and liberation you get from cleaning, not to mention, the extra space in the house, especially if you’re living in a small apartment.
At least that’s how my friends and I felt when we attended the 41st Singapore Really Really Free Market organised by local social enterprise Post-Museum. The event, which was hosted at art gallery DECK in central-Singapore, celebrates a more sustainable way of living, and sharing what we have.
This went beyond material goods like clothes, toys, and books. You could also get a tarot card reading for free if you were interested. You could learn to hoola-hoop with strangers if you were feeling a little sporty. Or listen to someone tell a story. For a minute, people forgot about their wallets, the malls, and the tiresome art of negotiating.
My loot from the free market included a book featuring the twenty arrondissements of Paris (pictured below), which is a charming find for any francophile, a golden bikini top that will go superbly with a trip to Siloso Beach, and a button-down shirt that looks as good as new. What a score!
Best of all, everyone is welcomed. From young children who grabbed secondhand plush toys to couples picking out roller blades and books to the older folks picking out designer clothing. Just don’t forget sunscreen and an open mind.

[GIVEAWAY] Maketh Project – It’s Time To Get Crafty!
What maketh a man? Manners or leather? Sure, manners are crucial, but what’s more impressive? Spending three hours handcrafting and stitching your own leather product or pulling out a chair for the lady?
Okay seriously, if you’re as much a fan of leather products or into crafts as we are, you’ll love what we’re bringing you today. With the recent swing towards handcrafted artisanal goods, we’ve had the privilege of getting our hands dirty with Maketh Project by attending one of its leather crafting workshops.
Maketh Project is the brain child of three friends Adlina Adil, Addynna Azlinor and Rozeryna Rothma, who share the love of leather crafting. Located on the second level of a shophouse, the unmistakable whiff of leather and hammering sounds echoing throughout the studio will have you feeling like a craftsman in no time.
For this workshop, we’ve chosen to craft a key holder and have informed Maketh of the chosen design in advance. For potential leather crafters, your first task after confirming your design will be to choose the type of leather. If you’re as anal particular as we are, expect to spend a fair amount of time going through the selection. We recommend taking your time to make the decision because well, it is your product!
[caption id="attachment_5633" align="alignnone" width="1000"]After a quick introduction, we were shown a short demonstration on leather cutting and were just a teeny bit terrified after knowing how we could cause irreparable damage to our products. Funny story, almost immediately after the demonstration, we’d accidentally sliced through the leather meant for the key holder’s strap. Heh.
But worry not, because the friendly leather crafters of Maketh will be there to guide and assist you! We swear cutting in a straight line is tougher than it looks. Much kudos to Addynna who stuck with us throughout our mini panic-attacks!
[caption id="attachment_5634" align="alignnone" width="1000"]Following this, we were told to glue the two leather pieces together before punching holes in the almost finished product. After meticulously marking out the holes, we proceeded to preform the task with our hearts in our mouths. One uneven punch is all it takes to ruin all your previous work so y’know, no pressure here.
[caption id="attachment_5636" align="alignnone" width="999"]The stitching was up next and after choosing the color of thread we wanted, we were all set to complete our key holder! After completing the stitch, we had Addynna put on some finishing touches and we were done! We think it looks great so it doesn’t matter if you think the button is slightly off center. It’s not.
We must say, despite the self-imposed pressure to perfect our product, the experience of crafting a leather good we can call our own is nothing less than fun. The level of satisfaction is pretty insane and we can’t help showing our handcrafted key holder to our friends. We cut and sew one hor.

1. Urban Ski
Yes, we understand its really hot lately so here is something cool for you… like skiing and snowboarding kind of cool.

Basically, Urban Ski is Singapore’s one and only indoor ski and snowboarding centre. There’s an indoor rotating ski slope that caters to both beginners as well as seasoned skiers and snowboarders.

5. Smith Marine Kelong
Hong Kong-ers have their Jumbo Kingdom floating restaurant. We at Singapore have our very own floating Kelong seafood restaurant.

Located off Pulau Ubin and Changi, this restaurant has a ‘sure catch’ fishing pond where you can give fishing a go. It costs $35 per fish if you’d like the restaurant chef to cook it for you or alternatively, you can take your fish home at $15 per fish.

6. Coney Island
No, we’re not referring to the Coney Island at New York. We’re talking about the island that was once owned by the Haw Par brothers of Tiger Balm.

It’s only about a hundred metres away from Singapore at its closest point.
To get there, just head over to Punggol Point Park (end of Punggol Road) and look for the bridge that connects the mainland to the West Entrance of the Island.
