Tiong Bahru Bakery Takes A Walk On The Wild Side With A Safari-Themed Cafe In Dempsey

Tiong Bahru Bakery has done it again. The local pastry and bakery stalwart, famed for their French Croissants, has opened its fifth outlet – a safari-themed space nestled in the lush surrounds of Dempsey.
There may not be any wild animals here, unless you count the illustrations and cushion prints, but there are chickens and bunnies on site!
If you’re planning your next trip to an African Safari, you can finally do so at TBB Safari – a 46 seater cafe serving rainbow lattes and power breakfast jars.

No Wild Animals Here
Following a trip to Selinda Camp and Gomoti Plains Camp in Botswana, founder Cynthia Chua made use of the previously underutilised space in front of farm-to-table restaurant Open Farm Community. Where there once was an alfresco dining area now sits TBB Safari, with an all new, specially designed wooden gazebo and eco-friendly Airbitat coolers set at 25 degrees to regulate the temperature.
Being outdoors may sound cool in theory to some but not when you’re sweating in Singapore’s sweltering heat. Surrounded by Dempsey’s lush greenery, you can connect with nature in maximum comfort.

Inspired by her trip to Botsawana, she decked out the cafe with flat-woven kilim rugs, framed butterfly taxidermy and custom-made wooden tables. For a semi-alfresco space, the pseudo-campsite is nothing short of cosy. It’s the perfect glamping experience minus the mosquitoes and heat.
Exclusive to Tiong Bahru Bakery Safari are anti-inflammatory caffeine-free drinks. The Turmeric & Ginger Latte ($6.50) and Beetroot & Ginger Latte ($6.50) are smooth, warm options perfect for a rainy day. You can also switch out the milk for soy or almond nut milk at no extra charge.

TBB’s signature pastries and breads are also available at the new outlet, along with some Safari-exclusive items. Crafted for the health-conscious are their new power-breakfast jars packed with fruits and herbs plucked straight from the on-site garden. Think: pandan-infused pineapple on rolled oats in black sesame-infused milk ($8.80) and papaya infused with turmeric on a bed of tapioca pearls and coconut milk ($8.50).
[caption id="attachment_38274" align="aligncenter" width="2000"]
A limited edition Wild Safari Cake ($9.20) – an elegant confection of banana mousse, banana passionfruit confit coated in chocolate, and coconut praline feuilletine will be available until Dec 14.
Dempsey is not the easiest place to get to but it’s definitely worth the trip. However we heard that queues stretched on for two hours at the branch’s opening on 16 Nov, so you might have to plan your trip here!

Have Breakfast At Tiffany’s: Free Croissants And Coffee From Tiong Bahru Bakery Available 27 Aug To 3 Sep

For those of you who loved the classic 1961 film starring Audrey Hepburn, having ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ is no longer a dream.
Tiffany & Co. is collaborating with Tiong Bahru Bakery as part of the launch of their Tiffany Paper Flowers collection in Singapore.
From 27 August to 3 September 2018, Tiong Bahru Bakery will be handing out free croissants and coffee from their striking turquoise kiosk outside ION Orchard.
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bm-WspPHqTb/
There are, however, certain prerequisites before you proceed to claim your croissant and coffee.
First, you’ll have to take a photo of the kiosk.
Next, upload it onto Instagram or Facebook with the hashtags #tiffanypaperflowers and #tiongbahrubakery.
That’s it. You have earned your breakfast. Or lunch. Note that the kiosk operates from 10am to 2pm daily.
But if a croissant and a coffee isn’t sufficient, then you might want to head to the actual OG Tiong Bahru Bakery instead, which has also been taken over by Tiffany & Co.’s signature colour.

This is a feast for eyes, as much as it is for the stomach.

These 10 Bakeries In S’pore Serve The Best Bread – And They All Deserve A Toast

Bread is incredibly versatile yet somehow underrated. There’s even a word created solely to describe someone who supports the family (with bread probably). BREADWINNER.
As someone who ranks bread as the top carb of choice, I have pretty strong feelings for bread.
[caption id="attachment_34415" align="aligncenter" width="245"]

They have everything from tarts and cakes to traditional Swedish pastries and of course, bread. If you’re a sucker for a good brioche or croissant, then you should try the ones here.
[caption id="attachment_34420" align="aligncenter" width="640"]
Oh, they have this divine Cranberry Cream Cheese Bagel that you NEED to try as well.

If you’re wondering, Konditori is Muslim-owned.
Konditori – Artisan European Bakery This Muslim-owned bakery has a selection of both savoury and sweet sourdough toasts. Go for their Nut Butter With Honey And Sea Salt Toast ($3.50). A thick slice of sourdough toast is slathered with almond butter, generously drizzled with honey and finished with a sprinkling of sea salt. If you’re looking for something more savoury, their Egg Salad with Dukkah and Pickled Onions ($5) is a great option. The thick sourdough toast is topped with a heap of egg salad and garnished with pickled onions. I mean, just look at it. The Bakery By Woodlands Sourdough also has bagels and pizzas on their menu if you’re looking for something more substantial. If you’re planning to visit, go early because their bread sells fast. The Bakery By Woodlands Sourdough Asanoya Boulangerie is a Japanese bakery specialising in gourmet bread and pastries. They combine Japanese flavours with traditional European pastries. Their flagship item is the Fruit Rye made with orange peel, rum raisin, walnuts and almonds. Apparently it’s so popular in Karuizawa that it gets sold out the moment it is displayed on the shelves. A popular item in Singapore is the Croissant Block that comes in various flavours. Like this Creme Brûlée Croissant Block, filled with fresh cream and topped with a caramelised sugar crust. Asanoya Boulangerie Singapore is constantly churning out great quality bread with various seasonal flavours. Head down to any of their 3 branches today! Asanoya Boulangerie Baker & Cook is Singapore’s only true artisan bakery and food store chain by Global Baker Dean Brettschneider. You have to try their Bombolini Donuts aka Custard Donuts. You can choose from either the Jam Bombolini or the Vanilla Custard Bombolini. The donut is filled with custard (or jam) and dusted with sugar, yet somehow isn’t too sweet. If you love your donuts as much I do, then this is it. Baker & Cook Carpenter & Cook is an artisan bakery cafe and vintage home store. While they technically don’t serve bread, they do have amazing pastries. Go for their Passionfruit Meringue Tart ($6.80). This beautiful dainty tart is almost too pretty to eat. The passionfruit’s zest cuts through the sweetness of the tart and meringue so it’s not jelak. This is strictly not for sharing because you’ll want to savour every bite. EVERY. BITE. Carpenter & Cook Prices start from $1.60 for the small size, $2.30 for the medium size and $4.20 for the large size. Their best sellers are the Bacon, Tomato & Egg Mayo, Curry Chicken Sausage & Egg, Banana Chocolate, and Mushroom Veggie. Come between 9 – 9.30am and you might just catch a fresh batch out of the oven! Thai Baàng Bakery If you have not tried anything from Tiong Bahru Bakery, have you truly been living? While the cafe serves up a large variety of bread and pastries, baked fresh daily, their bestseller is the Kouign Amann. The name ‘Kouign Amann‘ is derived from the Breton words for cake (kouign) and butter (amann). This pastry is rich yet not saccharine. I usually buy in bulk because why not? (Actually it’s because there’s no Tiong Bahru Bakery near my place) But my point is that the Kouign Amann here is AMAZING. Don’t say ‘never intro’. Tiong Bahru Bakery Keong Saik Bakery is riding the ‘Dirty Bun’ wave pretty hard. Their recent ‘Dirty Bun’ creations include the Matcha Dirty Bread ($4.50) and the Chocolate Dirty Bread ($4). If you’re done with the ‘Dirty Bun’ trend like I am, go for the Keong Saik Bakery signature, the Sor Hei ($3.80). It’s a black and white danish pastry filled with chocolate chips between the layers. Reminds me of the seaweed chicken I used to buy in the school canteen. Best to come early for the Sor Hei because it gets sold out very quickly. Keong Saik Bakery Swee Heng 1989 Bakery is one of my favourites. I’ve had their bread for dinner on countless occasions because why not? They use fresh ingredients and they have unique flavours for their bread. My favourite is the Mrs. Red Bean which is a red bean bun with cream cheese and a polo bun crust. The Rocky Chocolate is also really good. Chocolate bread peppered with walnuts and raisins. It’s very chocolatey and rich. Drink lots of water after because while the bread is really good, it does leave your throat a little dry. Swee Heng 1989 Bakery Tai Cheong Bakery is well known for their HK Egg Tarts. There’s even a Pandan variation. While their HK Egg Tarts hog the spotlight, another must-try is the HK Polo Bun. If you’re a fan of HK cuisine and their pastries, Tai Cheong Bakery is the place to be. Pancake Burgers Are The Latest Food Mashup In S’pore And We Are All Flippin’ Out

Here in Singapore, we have seen our fair share of food mashups. These include the “cronut”, a croissant and donut hybrid, the sushi burrito (self-explanatory), as well as the pizza waffle, to name a few.
Now, Tiong Bahru Bakery unveils their latest creation–pancake burgers–as part of their new Raffles City outlet dinner menu.
Pancake burgers at Tiong Bahru Bakery Raffles City
The creative folks at Tiong Bahru Bakery have whipped up 3 types of pancake burgers for you to sink your teeth into.
They recommend the PB & B Pancake Burger ($23) which has smoky spiced pork belly sandwiched between a stack of fluffy pancakes. The pancakes have maple syrup drizzled over them, with a generous helping of salted caramel, caramelised bananas, and peanuts to add some crunch.
[caption id="attachment_27510" align="aligncenter" width="640"]
If you prefer something savoury, The Kim Cheesy Pancake Burger ($23) is the dish for you. It tastes and resembles an okonomiyaki with its bonito flakes and lettuce toppings. The savoury kimchi pancakes in this unique creation are complemented with a tofu patty that is drenched with a sweet bean sauce. Pick this if you want a lighter option to the PB & B Burger.

Another item worth trying is the No Fuss Chicken Fusilli ($19). While this is a relatively common dish in many restaurants, Tiong Bahru Bakery checks all of our boxes with their well seasoned pasta, coupled with tender chicken thigh ragu. This will definitely be included in our list of comfort foods after a tiring day at work.
Located at such a central location and with such well executed dishes, Tiong Bahru Bakery is going to be our go-to option for dinner gatherings!
