The cafe will be completely redecorated with the Care Bears. While it doesn’t exactly resemble Care-a-lot, this will do.

As with all past iterations of character cafes, what everyone is looking forward to is the themed food, and the Care Bears don’t intend to lose out to the Sanrio characters.

For the pasta lovers, there’s the Kumoya’s Star Attraction ($18.90) which is a classic Pomodoro spaghetti with shitake mushrooms, cherry tomato confit, and parmesan cheese.

[caption id="attachment_32955" align="aligncenter" width="1772"] Kumoya’s Star Attraction ($18.90)[/caption]

If you’re looking for something more substantial, there’s the Cheer-Up Chicken Katsu ($21.90).

[caption id="attachment_32968" align="aligncenter" width="1772"] Cheer-Up Chicken Katsu ($21.90)[/caption]

Were you expecting a chicken cutlet? Because we were. But it’s actually a burger!

A juicy Japanese katsu chicken slathered generously with teriyaki sauce is sandwiched between soft burger buns, topped with a sunny-side up and cheddar cheese, served with a garden salad, crisp fries and mushroom soup.

Every past character cafe has had their own version of Kumoya’s desserts and drinks and this is no exception.

Go for the Rainbow Garden Strawberry Parfait ($18.90) – Strawberry Hokkaido soft serve is served with vanilla pudding, meringue drops, fresh fruits, chocolate sable, a rainbow candy strip and mixed berries sauce.

[caption id="attachment_32979" align="aligncenter" width="1772"] Rainbow Garden Strawberry Parfait ($18.90)[/caption]

That’s not all. End off your meal with their Calpis drinks or special Care Bears teas.

The Cute Cuddly Calpis ($11.90) combines Berry flavoured Calpis with a mountain of fresh cream, while the Magic Mango Strawberry ($11.90) uses Mango Strawberry Calpis with a mountain of fresh cream.

If you grew up with Care Bears like us, this is one character pop-up cafe that you shouldn’t miss!

7. Summer Hill

Summer Hill is the newest restaurant to pop up in Sunset Way, serving up affordable French cuisine without GST and service charge.

This cosy bistro serves up simple French fare that is oh-so-simple, yet oh-so-good. Dishes on their Special board as well as sides are rotated weekly so your meal there is always different and exciting.

Must-tries include their Poulet Roti ($23 for half, $45 for whole), the Mustard & Sage Pork Collar ($25), Croque Monsieur ($17.50), and the Orange & Rosemary-Scented Olive Oil Cake With Cream ($3).

The Poulet Roti uses hormone and antibiotic-free chicken that has been marinated with herb butter before it’s roasted to perfection. The result is roast chicken that is juicy yet still retains its skin’s crispiness.

[caption id="attachment_33024" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Muriel A[/caption]

If you’re not a fan of chicken, then the Mustard & Sage Pork Collar is the main dish for you. Tangy, tender, and satisfying. The mustard and sage sauce provides a contrast of flavours, cutting through the heaviness of the tender pork so that you won’t feel jelak.

[caption id="attachment_33025" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Muriel A[/caption]

The Croque Monsieur is basically a levelled-up ham and cheese sandwich. Ham, Swiss cheese, bechamel sauce, and dijon mustard sandwiched between 2 thick slices of grilled sourdough bread.

Sounds like heaven to us. That’s not all, more Swiss cheese is garnished on the top of the sandwich for more cheesy goodness.

[caption id="attachment_33026" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Xing Wei Chua[/caption]

If you’re a fan of French cuisine, or just appreciate comfort food, then you need to drop by Summer Hill next.

8. OH MY MANGO Dessert Bar

Hidden away in the suburbs of Jurong West, is OH MY MANGO dessert bar.

This unassuming dessert bar serves up various mango-flavoured food, and one of those is a mean Mango Shibuya Toast ($10.90).

[caption id="attachment_33029" align="aligncenter" width="720"] Image Credit: OH MY MANGO Dessert Bar Facebook[/caption]

Soft and fluffy on the inside, while toasted and crispy on the outside, the shibuya toast is topped with mango ice cream, diced mango, almond flakes, drizzled generously with mango sauce, and served with a dollop of whipped cream.

This is basically a mango overload but not in a bad way. If you’re a big fan of mango, you have to try this.

OH MY MANGO dessert bar also has a rather extensive menu of mango-flavoured drinks.

[caption id="attachment_33030" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: OH MY MANGO Dessert Bar Facebook[/caption]

A hot favourite among customers is the Matcha Mango Latte ($5.90). A bottom layer of mango bits, followed by a layer of milk, topped off with a layer of matcha.

[caption id="attachment_33031" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Miss Ha[/caption]

This tri-coloured creation might seem like a weird flavour combination, but the slight bitterness of matcha cuts through the sweetness and sometimes too jelak taste of the mango and milk, resulting in a rather interesting flavour.

OH MY MANGO dessert bar is constantly adding new desserts and drinks to their menu, so keep checking their Facebook page to stay up to date!

8. Pizza Maru

Can’t decide between pizza and Korean food for dinner? How about both?

Pizza Maru is the latest franchise to hit our shores, serving up Chicago-style deep dish pizzas with a Korean twist. That’s right, we’re talking about deep dish pizzas with Korean flavours.

Known for their patented pizza dough made with green tea, chlorella and 12 kinds of cereals, this hefty pizza dough is made to support a multitude of ingredients in their deep dish pizzas.

One of the pizzas to look out for is the Real BBQ Chicago ($26.80) which comes stuffed with double mozzarella cheese, cream cheese mousse, string cheese, roasted onion, tomatoes, potatoes, chicken chunks, mushrooms, BBQ sauce, honey, almonds and icing sugar.

[caption id="attachment_32812" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Rachel Chua[/caption]

Sounds like a weird combination but it makes sense given the Korean influence on the dish.

Another must-try is the Mango Ocean ($19.80/regular, $23.80/large) which is a seafood pizza with shrimps, squid, scallops, mushrooms, broccoli, onions, black olives, mango, pilaf sauce, mozzarella sauce, spicy buldak sauce, and sweet potato-stuffed crust.

[caption id="attachment_32813" align="aligncenter" width="567"] Image Credit: Pizzamaru Singapore Facebook[/caption]

A great side dish to order is the SPAM Tower ($12.80). Layers of chicken SPAM, bell peppers, fried kimchi, cabbage, mushrooms, onions, seaweed, and a fried egg sitting on a bed of rice and garnished with potato crisps, parmesan cheese and sriracha sauce.

[caption id="attachment_32814" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Rachel Chua[/caption]

If you’re a fan of Korean food, or deep dish pizza, this is a place you have to check out.

9. Mak Hong Kee HK Kitchen

Newly opened along Keong Saik Road is Mak Hong Kee HK Kitchen, serving up classic Hong Kong fare that you normally find in a high end Chinese restaurant, albeit at a more reasonable price.

A must-try is their roasted meats. Mak Hong Kee HK Kitchen serves up roast pork which is slightly fattier with a thin crisp layer of crackling that is oh-so-satisfying.

Another roast meat to look out for is the BBQ Pork with Honey sauce, better known as Char Siew. The char siew served here is tender and not as sweet.

[caption id="attachment_32815" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Xing Wei Chua[/caption]

If you need your carbs, then we suggest getting the Beef Hor Fun ($10). The hor fun (rice noodles) used in the dish is narrower, and is stir fried with bell peppers and tender beef slices in a rich black bean sauce. This is a dish that you must order.

[caption id="attachment_32816" align="aligncenter" width="570"] Image Credit: Burpple User Veronica Phua[/caption]

Mak Hong Kee HK Kitchen also has other selections of rice, noodle and congee dishes if you’re looking for other options.

If you’re on the hunt for dresses for your best girls, here’s a list of sites/shops you can visit to get your bridesmaid dresses. We have them ranked from the most affordable to the least, so whether you’re on a budget or want to splurge on your bridal party, you’ll have plenty of options.

1. Image Credit: Boohoo[/caption]

Based in the UK, Boohoo sells on-trend clothing at affordable prices. A quick search for “bridesmaid” on their search bar will throw up a random mish-mash of styles – lace dresses, printed dresses, short dresses, long dresses – so you’ll have to pick through the lot to find one (or some) you like.

Boohoo also sells bridesmaid robes and pajamas, so you and your girls can look cute while getting ready for your special day.

[caption id="attachment_32366" align="alignnone" width="1235"] Image Credit: Ohvola[/caption]

Here, you won’t find your typical bridesmaid styles, but more interesting silhouettes, with asymmetrical hems, unique cutout details and colour blocked styles; basically, outfits that are cool, chic, and that your bridesmaids are sure to feel stylish in.

The one downside, however, is that most styles come in one or two fixed colours, so if it doesn’t fit your wedding colour theme, you may have to look elsewhere.

Price: SGD$29.00 – $86.00
Website

3. is another popular online shopping destination for Singaporean ladies, and occasionally, you’ll find something here that’s bridesmaid-appropriate.

10. Zalora

Did you know Zalora has its own line of bridesmaid dresses? And the selection is actually pretty extensive.

[caption id="attachment_32390" align="alignnone" width="1333"] Image Credit: Zalora[/caption]

Aside from your typical bridesmaid styles, they also have plenty of printed offerings. They also have satin dresses, which you won’t find in many of the sites listed here.

11. Image Credit: ASOS[/caption]

With brands like TFNC Wedding, Maya, Jarlo, John Zack, and of course, ASOS’ home brand, you can easily shop multiple brands at one location.

If your colour scheme falls out of the pastel pink, peach, blue and purple spectrum, ASOS is a good place to start looking. Here, you’ll find dresses in less common hues like sage, green and purple.

Do take note that ASOS’ styles tend to be less conservative, with bare backs and lower necklines.

Price: SGD$64.65 – $808.13
SOIGNÉ The Label

Another site that sells dresses with a more modern silhouette is SOIGNÉ The Label.

[caption id="attachment_32370" align="aligncenter" width="1099"] Image Credit: Soigne The Label[/caption]

While they don’t have a dedicated section for bridesmaid dresses, it’s easy to picture some of these styles walking down the aisle with you.

Here, they stray from bridesmaid cliches with unique necklines and quirky touches, making for interesting details in all those wedding photos you’ll surely be taking.

Price: SGD$65 – $199
Website

13. Lulus

Lulus has a beautiful range of bridesmaid dresses, but there is one downside – the price.

But hey, if you’re willing to shell out in the region of $100 per dress (shipping included), you’ll find some very nice designs here, and with very nice quality.

[caption id="attachment_32372" align="alignnone" width="1253"] Image Credit: Lulus[/caption]

What’s great about Lulu’s is that each style comes in a variety of colours, so you won’t have to rule out dresses because they don’t come in your desired colour.

Do take note that since Lulus is based in the US, some of the maxi dresses may run a little long on more petite Singaporean girls. That said, the sizing guide and review section are very handy when it comes to figuring out if the length or fit of a dress will be an issue.

As with ASOS, Lulus’ styles are also more revealing, so be sure your bridesmaids dare to bare before you place your order!

Price: USD$44 – $284
Website

14. Lipsy

For sexier styles, give London-based Lipsy a look-see.

[caption id="attachment_32395" align="alignnone" width="1297"] Image Credit: Lipsy[/caption]

A go-to for party and occasion-wear, the site stocks a variety of brands, some of which you’ll recognize (Forever New, Bardot, Little Mistress) and some of which you may find less familiar (Scarlett & Jo, Sistaglam, Jessica Wright).

With side slits, applique details, and uber flattering ruching, the dresses here are for the bridal squad that’s got it and ain’t afraid to flaunt it.

Price: £62 – £170

If you’re hungry, Don Don Donki will also be partnering with Hokkaido Marche to offer a dining experience that we are all familiar with. Just imagine Marche serving up Japanese food.

Another highlight of the Singapore outlet is the takeaway delicatessen section in the supermarket which will offer sushi, sashimi and tons of Japanese goodies.

The cheapest item that you can find at Singapore’s Don Don Donki is the Calbee Jagatico Salad ($0.50). The most expensive item is the 35-year-old Hibiki Suntory Whisky which costs a whopping $80,000.

There’s also the exclusive Don Don Donki bar. There are only 2 outlets in the world. One here in Singapore, and the other in Tachikawa, Tokyo.

The Japanese bar serves a variety of sake, whisky and beer. Unlike the 24-hour outlet, it operates from 4pm – 2am on Sunday to Thursday and 4pm – 3am on Friday and Saturday.

Shoppers will also be thrilled to know that the alcohol section of the supermarket offers alcoholic drinks that are not available at other Don Don Donki branches.

With this opening, we know where we’ll be shopping and buying groceries from now on.

The Ultimate Collector’s Guide To Toy Shopping In Singapore

As a kid, toys were the biggest “wants” in our lives and we would beg our parents to buy that car that “is different from the one I have at home” or the Barbie doll that “wears a different dress”. Most of us didn’t get that car or Barbie doll.

We’d go home feeling dejected and disappointed. But a good night’s sleep later, we’d move on with our lives, completely forgetting about the toy.

However, some of us never moved on. And that is how a market for hobby collectors came about. They are mainly older men and they’re surprisingly caught up on the latest and most anticipated toys in the market.

Prepare yourselves, we’ve gathered up the ultimate list of Singapore’s hobby stores.

Toys Aren’t Just For Kids

1. Dollz Inc

Dollz Inc has been around since 1999 and is quite well-known among hobby collectors.
