Banksy and 49 Other Street Artists Will Be Showcasing Their Best Works In S’pore This Jan

Leave it to the ArtScience Museum to continually impress with their curated exhibits.

From 13 January 2018 to 3 June 2018, the world’s most iconic street artists will be showcasing their most provocative works for the first time in Singapore.

Titled Art from the Streets, this ground-breaking exhibition will trace the 40 years of street art, from its beginnings to the urban art form that it is today.

This is the first time that the artworks will be showcased in SouthEast Asia.

Interestingly Provocative

The exhibition will feature a series of live paintings that are created on-site by some of the most iconic street artists as well as new and upcoming names such as Spain’s Felipe Pantone, Singapore’s Speak Cryptic and Yok & Sheryo.

[caption id="attachment_32191" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Image Credit: ArtScience Museum[/caption]

The new artworks are specially created for the exhibition, to showcase the diversity of the street art movement and how it is relevant to society in present times.

That’s not all, there will also be large-scale mural paintings, videos, prints, installations, archival material, drawings, and sketches from 50 of the biggest names in street art.

Visitors can expect to see works from the one and only Banksy, Shepard Fairey (aka Obey), JR, Invader, Swoon, Futura, Vhils, and Blek le Rat.

The ArtScience Museum will also be shining a spotlight on artworks from upcoming SouthEast Asian street artists.

8 Best Fish Soups In S’pore That Will Have You Savouring Every Last Drop

Everybody has their own go-to comfort food. But when it’s raining outside, there’s probably one dish that’s on everyone’s minds. Sliced Fish Soup.

This delightful warm bowl of clear umami broth paired with chunky slices of fresh fish and vegetables, is the ultimate comfort food for rainy days.

To save you the trouble of finding the best fish soup, we’ve compiled a list of the best in Singapore.

Food For The Soul

1. Jin Hua Fish Head Bee Hoon

This is our go-to place for a good, satisfying bowl of fish soup.

[caption id="attachment_32156" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: Burpple User Bryan Lee[/caption]

Go for the Fried Fish Soup ($4) if you’re feeling a little more indulgent with your diet. The fried fish slices are a good size and still retain their crispiness despite being soaked in the broth.

The Sliced Fish Soup ($4) is also a delight to eat, with the fresh springy slices of fish. We love that they choose to use chopped xiao bai cai (baby bok choy) in their soup, which makes the dish easier to eat. You just need a spoon!

As with most sliced fish soup stalls, you have the option of adding milk to your broth.

If you’re looking for a good place for sliced fish soup, this is it.

Jin Hua Fish Head Bee Hoon
Address: 1 Kadayanallur Street, #01-77 Maxwell Food Centre, Singapore, 069184
Opening Hours: Fri – Wed: 11am – 8.30pm, Thu: Closed

2. Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup

Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup is one of the old greats that used to reside in the now-demolished Blanco Court Food Centre.

The broth here is flavourful though some find the soup too salty.

The fried fish is crispy and chunky and the broth is served with plenty of deep fried egg batter.

[caption id="attachment_32157" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Justin Teo[/caption]

They also use spinach in their soup (we LOVE spinach), which imparts a different texture and taste to the dish compared to the more bitter chye sim variants.

They’ve moved to a new standalone shophouse at Beach Road and they added other dishes such as Black Bean Fish Head with Bittergourd, Prawn Rolls and Chicken Wings besides their signature Fried Fish Soup.

There’s a reason they’ve been a favourite among locals for so long.

So come on down to try it for yourself!

Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup
Address: 325 Beach Road, Singapore, 199559
Opening Hours: Mon – Sat: 10am – 7.30pm
Contact no.: 9151 2401

3. 127 Lorong 1 Fish Soup

Named after their address, 127 Lorong 1 Fish Soup serves up a mean sliced fish soup.

[caption id="attachment_32178" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Alex Chua[/caption]

The broth is is not too salty, yet comes with a tinge of tanginess which comes from the olive vegetables used in the soup.

If you’re not feeling sliced fish soup, you can order Saba Fish set. They sell steamed and fried dumplings and fried mackerel fillets, which are perfect sides to complement your fish soup.

127 Lorong 1 Fish Soup
Address: Blk 127 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #02-33, Singapore, 310127
Opening Hours: Tue – Sun: 7am – 8pm, Mon: Closed

4. Angel Horse Teochew Fish Soup

The name of this stall, Angel Horse Teochew Fish Soup, is a direct translation from their Chinese name. But that aside, the Sliced Fish Soup ($3 – $5) served here is pure comfort food.

[caption id="attachment_32180" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Julius Lim[/caption]

The broth here is star of the dish. In most cases, the fish would be in the spotlight. However, the broth in this dish is packed with flavour, which complements the fresh and tender fish slices.

They even add bitter gourd into the soup. Most places will have you paying extra or you have to order the sliced fish bitter gourd soup but not here. Here, it’s included!

They open at 11am daily, so come early or join the snaking queues.

If you’re looking for a humble bowl of sliced fish soup that hits all the right spots, this is it.

Angel Horse Teochew Fish Soup
Address: 270 Queen Street, #01-95 Albert Centre Market & Food Centre, Singapore, 180270
Opening Hours: Daily: 11am – 10pm

5. Piao Ji Fish Porridge

Unlike other fish stalls, Piao Ji Fish Porridge uses pomfret instead of the usual batang fish in their sliced fish soup. Pomfret has a smoother texture and has sweeter flesh than batang fish, which is also why the price here is higher.

You can also choose to add prawns to your soup, which amps up the umami in the broth.

[caption id="attachment_32181" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: Burpple User Tiara Lim[/caption]

As if the soup does not have enough flavour, the chef also adds bits of crispy lard to the soup.

Piao Ji is the stall to visit if you’re looking for a seriously indulgent bowl of sliced fish soup. Do come prepared to queue though.

Piao Ji Fish Porridge
Address: 7 Maxwell Road, #02-100/103 Amoy Street Food Centre, Singapore, 069111
Opening Hours: Fri – Wed: 10.30am – 3pm, Thu: Closed

6. First Street Teochew Fish Soup

First Street Teochew Fish Soup is one of our favourites.

You can choose from batang fish, pomfret or red grouper for your sliced fish soup. What’s more, you can choose to add minced meat and fish roe to the broth for extra flavour.

[caption id="attachment_32183" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Blueskies Cottonclouds[/caption]

If that does not sound good to you, we don’t know what does.

If you need your carbs to go with your protein-packed soup, you can choose from rice, bee hoon, or the rare mee sua.(Seriously, why is mee sua so hard to find?)

Honestly, we can’t wait to head back for our next bowl of fish soup.

First Street Teochew Fish Soup
Address: 1014 Upper Serangoon Road, Double One Kopitiam, Singapore, 534752
Opening Hours: Tue – Sun: 8am – 3pm, Mon: Closed
Contact no.: 8161 9552

7. Han Kee Fish Soup

Han Kee Fish Soup is the other well known fish soup stall in Amoy Street Food Centre. If you think that Han Kee is the backup stall that people go to because Piao Ji has a long queue, you are sorely mistaken.

Han Kee is known for their crystal clear yet flavourful broth. But the best thing about them is that they are very generous with their fish slices.

[caption id="attachment_32184" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Ying Ying[/caption]

However, the queue here is just as long as Piao Ji, so expect to wait for a bit.

While Piao Ji is known for their robust, meaty broth, Han Kee serves up a clear and refreshing alternative.

If you’re planning to go on a diet, this is a good place to start. You can thank us later.

Han Kee Fish Soup
Address: 7 Maxwell Road, #02-129 Amoy Street Food Centre, Singapore, 069111
Opening Hours: Mon – Fri: 10am – 3pm, Sat – Sun: Closed

8. Lu Jia Fish Soup

Lu Jia Fish Soup at Yishun seems to be serving many types of fish-related items.

We’re not complaining though. We love the variety of options. Right off the bat, you get to choose the type of rice you want, white rice or yam rice.

Then there’s Fried Fish Skin ($1) and Fried Beancurd Skin ($1) to choose as add-ons to the soup. That’s not all, they even have Salmon as an option for the sliced fish soup. And mee sua!

[caption id="attachment_32185" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Ellena Guan[/caption]

This stall has everything you didn’t know you wanted. Yam rice, Mee sua, Salmon, Fried Fish Skin and Fried Beancurd Skin.

If you’re bored of regular sliced fish soup, then you should give this one a try.

Lu Jia Fish Soup
Address: 1 Yishun Industrial Street 1, #01-12 A’Posh Bizhub Soon Hong Eating House, Singapore, 768160
Opening Hours: Mon – Sat: 11am – 8pm, Sun: Closed

Hokkaido Milk Cream Puffs Land In S’pore Next January – Get Ready For An Oozy, Creamy Mess

If you’re a fan of dessert pastries and you’ve exhausted all available options for a good cream puff or cheese tart, then we’ve got news for you.

Popular Taiwanese bakery, Kazo, is opening its first outlet at Chinatown Point on 5 January 2018!

Their parent company, Nichifu, is well known in Taiwan for their cream puffs, polo buns and cheese tarts.

To ensure that the quality of the pastries remain the same as Nichifu, the ingredients used by Kazo will be flown in from Taiwan regularly.

There’s Always Space For Dessert

Their signature Cream Puffs ($1.80 each) come in 2 flavours, Hokkaido Cream and Chocolate Cream.

[caption id="attachment_32161" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit: Kazo Singapore[/caption]

The most important thing about a cream puff is the pastry-cream ratio and Kazo seems to have found the perfect ratio.

Thank goodness, because nobody likes a puff with too much cream and too little dough. Have you tried eating a choux puff overloaded with cream? You need a STRAW.

Anyway, if you’re not feeling like cream puffs, how about trying Kazo’s Cheese Tarts ($3.20 each)? Yes, we know that there are already multiple cheese tart brands in Singapore but we love cheese tarts and new stuff, so we’ll still eat it anyway.

[caption id="attachment_32162" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Image Credit: Kazo Singapore[/caption]

If you thought Kazo stopped at cream puffs and cheese tarts, you thought wrong.

Named after the brand is the Kazu Kazu. A light and fluffy tube with a crunchy crust, filled with Hokkaido cream or Chocolate cream.

Reminds us of the Beard Papa Cookie Puff, but stretched out.

[caption id="attachment_32163" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit: Kazo Singapore[/caption]

For those of you who like the Walls ice cream sold by the uncles along the streets of Orchard Road, then you’ll want to try Kazo’s Danish Polo ($2.50 – $5.50).

[caption id="attachment_32164" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit: Kazo Singapore[/caption]

These delicious-looking buns of goodness come with a generous serving of Hokkaido Milk, Royal Chocolate or Matcha ice cream. Too bad they don’t have Raspberry Ripple.

If you’re looking for a drink to wash down all this pastry goodness, Kazo has a strong solution. Literally.

Meet these quirky bottles of organic soya bean drinks and matcha latte. They come in the shape of a perfect male physique. And they’re aptly named Kazo Man.

[caption id="attachment_32166" align="aligncenter" width="800"] Image Credit: Kazo Singapore[/caption]

They even have six packs! We’re referring to the physique. They don’t come in a pack of 6.

Guess who’s keeping the bottle?

[caption id="attachment_32167" align="aligncenter" width="252"] GIF Credit: giphy[/caption]

Jokes aside, Kazo seems to be a promising bakery and we cannot wait to be an auntie and queue up for these delectable desserts on 5 January 2018.

If you have a sweet tooth, go for the Turon (Banana Spring Roll) or the Leche Flan (Filipino Creme Caramel).

The price is cheap too, between $5 to $10 for a meal set. It’s no wonder the place is always crowded on weekends.

What’s a better indicator than satisfied repeat customers and large crowds?

[caption id="attachment_32143" align="aligncenter" width="720"] Image Credit: Iskina Cebu Singapore[/caption]

Filipino cuisine is our new favourite, with their oily, messy, unpretentious food.

Nothing says comfort food like sinful bowl of crispy pork, beef stew, garlic rice, and egg.

LAN gaming in Singapore is an unofficial rite of passage that most teens go through.

With games such as CounterStrike and Dota offering multiplayer options, LAN gaming shops were prevalent in the mid 2000s.

Even though LAN gaming is very popular, more people are getting their own gaming desktops set up at home which allows them to play in the comfort of their own homes.

Roji Chaseki is a new tea kiosk at Raffles XChange. This tea outlet serves up artisanal Japanese tea that’s brewed upon order so you know that each cup of tea is fresh.

Try the Purple Sweet Potato Iced Lattero ($6.40) if you’re feeling adventurous. The drink is not too sweet and has a distinct sweet potato flavour. You can choose to add on cheese foam for free for a new flavour combination.

The teas that they use as their base drinks are pretty unique too. From Ume Ume tea to Momotaro, Milky Popcorn and Melona Manpuku. These are all Roji’s own signature teas.

If you’re in the Raffles Place area, this is the tea shop to visit.

10. Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory

[caption id="attachment_32078" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Burpple User Natalie Wong[/caption]

Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory, Japan’s number one cheese cookie brand is here and they’ve opened their first outlet at Raffles City Shopping Centre!

At first glance, it looks like a shop that’s just selling cookies but you’d be glad to know that they sell soft serve ice cream too.

There are 2 flavours, Milk and Cheese. The Milk ice cream tastes pretty normal but the Cheese ice cream is a salty-sweet combination that’s surprisingly light and is the one that you should go for.

You can choose to have your soft serve in a waffle cheese cone, or opt for the Cow Cow Sundae ($8.50) which comes with a mixture of Milk and Cheese Ice cream, a Salt and Camembert cookie, and a slice of their signature Milk Cheesecake.

It sounds like a lot of dairy but it is not cloying and the different textures make this sundae an absolute delight to eat.

If you’re not feeling dessert, you can check out their selection of cheese cookies. Choose from Salt and Camembert, Honey and Gorgonzola, and Porcini and Gouda flavours.

The quality of the cookies are the same as the ones you buy in Japan. It’s no wonder that they are Japan’s number one cheese cookie confectionery.

There’s also the exclusive Don Don Donki bar. There are only 2 outlets in the world. One here in Singapore, and the other in Tachikawa, Tokyo.

The Ultimate Collector’s Guide To Toy Shopping In Singapore

As a kid, toys were the biggest “wants” in our lives and we would beg our parents to buy that car that “is different from the one I have at home” or the Barbie doll that “wears a different dress”. Most of us didn’t get that car or Barbie doll.

We’d go home feeling dejected and disappointed. But a good night’s sleep later, we’d move on with our lives, completely forgetting about the toy.

However, some of us never moved on. And that is how a market for hobby collectors came about. They are mainly older men and they’re surprisingly caught up on the latest and most anticipated toys in the market.

Prepare yourselves, we’ve gathered up the ultimate list of Singapore’s hobby stores.

Toys Aren’t Just For Kids

1. Dollz Inc
