Say Cheese! This Food Truck Stocked Full With Artisanal Cheese Will Make You Melt With Pleasure

Cheese. It makes (almost) everything taste at least 10 times better!  And who else makes better cheese than the Europeans? It comes as no surprise that the best cheeses in the world hail from Europe, where farmers and producers are constantly pushing the boundaries of dairy offerings.

If you’re a fan of European cheeses, you would know that it can be pretty difficult to get your hands on artisanal cheeses (they’re pretty pricey and only some supermarkets sell them). Fortunately for us cheese fans, a Cheese Truck is coming our way!

[caption id="attachment_16315" align="alignnone" width="1000"]untitled-design-31 Cheese Board[/caption]

Yes, you heard right. A CHEESE TRUCK. The Say Cheese Food Truck is bringing some delectable cheesy treats to you!

Making stops at various locations during lunch time the Say Cheese Food Truck will be serving up a selection of bite-sized cheese treats for 3 days in the month of October. Look out for their Mozzarella Mousse and the Bleu “Hollandaise” on Egg Croustade, which are pegged to be a must try for any cheese fanatic!

But don’t fret, cause you won’t be missing out! Some major retailers are joining in on the festivities and offering in-store promotions until April 2017!

10.Delicius Pasticceria

Chai Chee Folks – A Super Good Fish Head Steamboat Place Has Opened Near You!

For fish head steamboat lovers, Whampoa Keng is a familiar name, notably offering patrons wholesome fish and tasty broth.

Founded in 1990, Whampoa Keng has since opened its third outlet. Best of all? It’s located in the heartlands, in Chai Chee Neighbourhood!

Furthermore, this new location, situated in Bizhub 28, has two additional stalls – Whampoa Keng Economic Rice and Whampoa Keng Fish Soup Noodle. Perfect for those who prefer to have fish soup noodle or economic rice!

What is on the Menu at Whampoa Keng Fish Head Steamboat?

We headed down and had a taste of the oh-so-good food. Be warned, don’t read on an empty stomach!

1. Fish Head Steamboat

Served in a traditional pot with charcoal burning in the centre, Whampoa Keng makes their own soup stock, keeping the soup broth sweet and rich. Carnation milk is added to the broth to give it a slightly thicker texture.

[caption id="attachment_15490" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Fish Head Steamboat Whampoa Keng Credit: Rachel Lim[/caption]

Remarkably, 3 different types of fish are offered; Bardan Fish, Bucket Pomfret and Red Grouper.

Fresh fish is used everyday, with the meat marinated in their secret recipe before going into the steamboat, giving it a tender and firm bite.

No wonder, because this pot of goodness was polished off quickly!

2. Speciality Food Street Tofu (SGD $10-20)

[caption id="attachment_15494" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Credit: Rachel Credit: Rachel[/caption]

This egg tofu was smooth and silky. Generously doused in an abalone based sauce, it is the perfect companion to the Fish Head Steamboat

3. Signature Sweet & Sour Spare Ribs with Fried Cod Fish (SGD $15-25)

A unique dish found only in Whampoa Keng, the spare ribs are both sticky and sweet!

[caption id="attachment_15495" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Credit: Rachel Lim Credit: Rachel Lim[/caption]

Cod fish was shredded into thin strips and fried till crisp. The combination of fried cod fish and sweet sticky pork ribs was heavenly!

4. Salted Egg Yolk Prawns (SGD $20-$40)

[caption id="attachment_15496" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Credit: Rachel Lim Credit: Rachel Lim[/caption]

Another all time favourite – Salted Egg Yolk Prawns! Fresh, succulent and juicy prawns were cooked with the house made salted egg yolk sauce. Expect a spicy kick to the salted egg yolk goodness with the scattered chilli padi.

5. Signature Prawn Paste Chicken Wings (SGD $10-$20)

[caption id="attachment_15493" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Fish Head Steamboat Whampoa Keng Credit: Rachel Lim[/caption]

Whampoa Keng creates their own prawn paste and batters their chicken wings. This gives the juicy and delightful wings just the right amount of savoury prawn taste.

The perfect place for a gathering

This is the place for family dinners and gatherings with friends. Imagine everyone tucking into warm steamboat with the best side dishes!

Zika Has Been Lurking In SG For A Month Now, But There’s Actually Little To Worry About

With new cases of Zika continually popping up on our shores, do we have reason to panic?

Well, like the saying goes, Knowledge is power and Prevention is better than cure.

Instead of hiding at home and sealing your windows, you can arm yourself with these information and lower the risks of contracting the virus. Besides, our Zika timeline shows that there’s little to worry about.

Zika timeline in Singapore

Although the virus originated from Africa, it has found it’s way to our shores.

The first case of locally transmitted Zika Virus was jointly announced by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the National Environmental Agency (NEA) on August 27. That’s exactly one month ago.

[caption id="attachment_15071" align="aligncenter" width="768"]Zika timeline Zika timeline[/caption]

There are 387 confirmed cases as of September 23. 16 of which are pregnant women.

Zika clusters in Singapore

Currently, there are 9 known Zika clusters in Singapore.

Starting with Aljunied – which also houses the largest cluster (291 cases), onto more recently, Sengkang and Hougang.

If you want to know more, NEA regularly updates their website with detailed information on existing or new clusters.

The number of cases are on the decline

Although Zika sounds pretty scary, there is no reason to panic!

How Does Floating Freely Feel? We Tried It Out At Palm Ave Float Club!

When you think fitness, what comes to mind is usually a fast-paced, sweaty workout to burn off those calorie-laden junk we’ve been feeding our bodies.

While that’s not wrong, a cardio workout hardly constitutes the entire concept of fitness. Fitness is a connection between the mind and body – which makes meditation a huge part of fitness.

It is a common misconception that, when the body is at rest, it is completely unproductive.

Well, here to bust that myth is a studio home to floatation pods and calm, meditative spaces for you to free your mind.

Palm Ave Float Club

Zero clutter, and away from the bustle of the city life that we’re all too familiar with – walking into this space was a breath of fresh air.

[caption id="attachment_14712" align="aligncenter" width="1000"]Credit: Palm Ave Float Club Credit: Palm Ave Float Club[/caption]

The vibe was zen, calming the mind and easing the body in preparation of a new environment: the floatation pod.

[caption id="attachment_14714" align="aligncenter" width="1152"]Credit: Palm Ave Float Club Credit: Palm Ave Float Club[/caption]

At the reception area, I was greeted by Cherie, who checked me in and handed me a cup of tea. It was my first time in a floatation pod, so Cherie talked me through the whole process of floating, and the healing properties of salt water.

The Floatation Pod & its benefits

Floating is a form of meditation.

Like all meditative practices, floating helps to clear the mind, calm the soul, and reset our bodies.

[caption id="attachment_14715" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Credit: Palm Ave Float Club Credit: Palm Ave Float Club[/caption]

It is a mental detoxification, which is especially therapeutic in today’s digital age. We are not only glued to our digital devices like computers and handphones, we are also multi-tasking thanks to the functionalities of these devices.

Floating helps us to put aside such stressors and focus on the present.

[caption id="attachment_14709" align="aligncenter" width="800"]Credit: Palm Ave Float Club Credit: Palm Ave Float Club[/caption]

To reap the full benefits of floating, your mind should be free from distraction for the whole 60 or 90 minutes. When you find yourself drifting to other thoughts, bring your focus back to your breath, or the atmospheric music played in the pod.

Be aware of what you’re feeling in your body, so you’ll leave the pod noticing the difference.

Each pod is filled with 500kg of epsom salt dissolved in water, making floating effortless. So don’t be afraid to lie back and relax. In addition to healing in the form of meditation, the buoyancy of the salt water helps to heal muscle aches and ease tensions in the body as well.

I guess it’s true what they say, “The cure for anything is salt water”.

What to expect

After the introduction, it was time to leave my insecurities at the door, strip down, and trust in salt water.

13680399_848612541939584_7868921499639603571_o

Source

Yes, one is recommended to float nude to feel weightless – after all, you do have an entire room to yourself. If putting on a swimsuit makes you feel more comfortable – by all means!

Due to hygiene purposes, it is necessary to take a shower before stepping into the pod. Don’t worry, soap, shampoo, and towels are provided.

[caption id="attachment_14717" align="aligncenter" width="2000"]Credit: Palm Ave Float Club Credit: Palm Ave Float Club[/caption]

Next, I popped in earplugs (also provided), switched off the lights, and stepped into the pod.

The water was at a comfortable temperature and felt slightly alkaline from the salt content. I took no time at all to familiarise myself with my new surroundings.

There was a spray bottle and a small towel hooked over a rod on the left, just in case I somehow managed to get salt water in my eye (I didn’t).

There were also large rubber buttons in the pod for me to switch the colour changing lights off within the pod as soon as I was comfortable.

My experience

I shut the pod and laid down, arms and legs stretched out like a starfish (in yoga terms, savasana). The pod was spacious – my hands and feet did not touch the edge of the pod, and the roof of the pod did not feel close to my face at all. As soon as I closed my eyes, I completely forgot that I was in a pod.

Credit: Palm Ave Float Club

I’m pretty sensitive to motion when in the water, especially when I’m on a boat or on a paddleboard (I don’t get sick, but I do feel nauseous).

But while I was floating in the pod, I did not feel any motion.

That few minutes before I fell asleep, I actually heard white noise – a beat that sounded like it came from a turntable (apparently this is common). I then drifted into a deep sleep, dreamt, then woke up panicking because I forgot that I was in a floating pod – that was how comfortable I was!

The only thing I’d have done differently was to use the pool noodle provided to support my neck, because I felt slightly nauseous not from motion sickness, but from the weight of my head hanging down.

[caption id="attachment_14710" align="aligncenter" width="599"]Credit: Palm Ave Float Club Credit: Palm Ave Float Club[/caption]

Overall, the experience was extremely relaxing and rejuvenating – I’d definitely be back!

As a self-professed worrywart, and someone who is constantly juggling too many things at once, I did feel more calm and alert after my float.

If you’d like to carry  your meditation on after that 60 or 90-minute long float, feel free to stay as long as you like at Palm Ave’s chill out spaces, and take in the breathtaking view of Kallang.

6 DIE DIE Must Visit Stalls For Lovers Of Seafood White Bee Hoon!

The seafood white bee hoon buzz is one of the latest food craze in our sunny island.

This unassuming tze-char dish has been around for ages in Singapore, with no one paying so much attention to it until now.

With so many wannabes in the market riding on the wave of the craze, it’s rare to come by stalls that genuinely know their stuff.

Here are some of the places we recommend for a good plate of our favourite local seafood white bee hoon!

1. Woon Woon Pek Beehoon

This small hawker stall at Changi Village Hawker Centre brings in long lines of customers every week.

[caption id="attachment_14515" align="aligncenter" width="640"]Credit: cptslow yeo Credit: cptslow yeo[/caption]

Their speciality is the seafood that goes with its bee hoon. Choose from a top-up of fish, crab, prawn, crayfish or mussels. If you’re feeling hungry (or are in a group), you can try the seafood platter ($30 or $40).

2. East Seafood White Beehoon

Led by a chef with 30 years of culinary experience, East Seafood hawker chain prides itself on offering affordable seafood white bee hoon amidst rising seafood prices.

With three hawker branches located in Toa Payoh, Hougang (Ciyuan CC) and Ang Mo Kio, they also offer great seafood add-ons with their bee hoon (crayfish, lala and crabs).

4. White Restaurant The Original White Beehoon

When it comes to seafood white bee hoon, this famous restaurant chain in the north is the mother of them all.

White Restaurant The Original White Beehoon is one of the pioneers of the famous Sembawang White Bee Hoon. Their version is dressed in thick sauce and copious ingredients (eggs, sotong, chai sim, and prawns – yum!). Beware of the long queues on the weekends!

What is it about seafood white bee hoon that keeps drawing customers – new and old – week after week?

Could it the salty rice noodles that make up the core of the dish? Is it the prawns and sotong that accompanies it? Or could it be the fragrant, hot gravy that tops it all off?

It’s pointless to think too much into it – just join the queue this weekend and find out!
