CURATE: Asia’s 1st Showcase Restaurant For Michelin Star Cuisine In SG

Sentosa draws in throngs of visitors for its beaches, marine attractions, and of course, the popular Universal Studios theme park. But come April, you might have another reason to head to this popular island. CURATE promises to be Asia’s first Michelin Chef showcase restaurant where you can taste the finest culinary creations of visiting Michelin-starred chefs, right within the tropical paradise that is Resorts World Sentosa.

[caption id="attachment_4699" align="alignnone" width="700"] Image credit: rwsentosablog.com[/caption]

Not to be confused with your typical Michelin-starred restaurants (although those are worth visiting too of course!), CURATE is unique in that it allows customers to savour multiple Michelin-starred chefs’ creations through their Art at Curate series. Each series will see a different chef helming the kitchen at CURATE, with the restaurant being a stage for them to showcase their best works of culinary art.

And as with any fine-dining affair, you can expect the highest quality wines to go with your meal as well. In partnership with the influential wine authority, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, Art at Curate will have the expert wine reviewers from their team hand-pick the best wines to complement each meal.

CURATE’s debut showcase will feature La Calandre’s chef, Massimiliano Alajmo. Being the world’s youngest chef to be awarded the coveted three Michelin stars when he was just 28 years old, Alajmo has a knack for bringing out the truest flavours of the ingredients that he uses to create multi-sensorial dishes in his distinctive style. Along with his love for exquisite seasonal ingredients and flair molecular gastronomy, you’ll be in for a gourmet treat at the inaugural series of Art at Curate.

If you’re into gastronomic adventures, you’ll probably like this. And don’t be surprised to find yourself coming back for multiple return trips to taste the creations that other guest chefs have in store for you too.

Prices start from $220-280 for a four-course lunch, $290 for a champagne brunch, to $380-480 for an eight-course dinner. CURATE accepts advanced bookings only, book your tickets here

An Underground Bar Event With Complimentary Drinks? Basement Seah Damn Happening Sia!

It’s been a looong week and Friday can’t come soon enough. We understand the wait for the weekend can be painful. In fact, the day before TGIF is usually the worst. But instead of staying down, we’re going to get you pumped for TGIF with some after-work Thursday chill and booze. Nobody said you had to wait till the weekend to have fun, right?

[caption id="attachment_5373" align="alignnone" width="1202"] Check out the unique vintage décor![/caption]

Mr Punch Public House

Introducing Mr Punch Public House, a quirky yet cosy bar we recently stumbled across. Tucked away in the basement of the Museum of Toys is this unassuming gastropub, with its vintage décor and cosy ambience. It exuded the kind of odd familiarity that quickly put us at ease.

[caption id="attachment_5374" align="alignnone" width="1642"] If this isn’t cozy, we don’t know what is.[/caption]

Mr. Punch Public House is a concept inspired by the puppet show ‘Punch & Judy’ (the younglings will probably have no idea what this is) with the Public House being Mr. Punch’s last destination as a world-traveller. So this bar is akin to Mr. Punch’s treasure trove of memories; pretty interesting concept, we have to say.

Basement Seah

Every Thursday from 7pm to 11pm, the bar transforms into a cosy dinner spot that takes you back to the ‘60s. Known as Basement Seah, this retro themed night will have you immersed in both fun and nostalgia as the DJ puts a modern spin on some of the era’s most popular swing music. That’s right, a live DJ. Who knew you could enjoy great music, booze and feel cosy all at the same time?

[caption id="attachment_5418" align="alignnone" width="5184"] The Pimm’s Cup[/caption]

Drinks

Mr. Punch Public House offers an extensive drinks menu that includes the unique Cocktail World Tour, a curated series of international cocktails carefully thought out by its bartenders. From Malaysia’s Jungle Bird ($17) to the Russian Cocaine ($14), we’re pretty sure you’ll find a cocktail or two that suits you. If you’re more into wines, we bring good news. Simply RSVP at 8339 8966 with your email address and quote DISCOVER MR PUNCH to receive a complimentary glass of wine this Thursday, 14th April 2016!

[caption id="attachment_5376" align="alignnone" width="1369"] The Platter[/caption]

Food

Feeling peckish? There is a brand new sharing menu that offers an electic mix of cuisines. Start with the Platter ($35/three dishes) and choose from dishes such as freshly Grilled Tiger Prawns, deliciously marinated Marmite Glazed Squid Rings, and tender Slow-Cooked Pork Belly. Though not included, we thought the unique Potato Chip Chicken (potato chip breaded chicken) makes a great tapas.

[caption id="attachment_5377" align="alignnone" width="4000"] Bacon Wrapped Venison Loin[/caption]

Looking for something a little more filling? Give its signature Herb-Crusted Barramundi ($29) or its Bacon-Wrapped Venison Loin ($45) a try. Though slightly pricier, we’re confident that the dinning experience at Mr Punch will be value for money.

Whether you’re looking for a unique yet cosy bar to take your after work conversations to or a place for an evening of pre-TGIF fun, Basement Seah@Mr Punch Public House is definitely the place to be. 9 Quick Meals For The Busy Working Adult

When we’re caught up with the responsibilities at work, we tend to forget our hungry tummies. So consider taking some time off to prepare a quick meal that will surely leave you wanting for more. There’s no need to worry, you don’t have to be a master chef to whip these up. All you require is a simple kitchen and the willpower to try something new!

1. RedMart’s Thai Chicken Curry with Crunchy Vegetables and Fragrant Basmati

[caption id="attachment_5115" align="alignnone" width="700"] Image Credit: RedMart[/caption]

If you’re craving for something spicy, you’re in luck! You can easily create a hearty meal of Thai chicken curry mixed with French beans, baby corn and eggplants. All the ingredients you need can be conveniently ordered at local online grocery store RedMart as a set, so you’ll only need to put on your chef hat and start cooking!

[caption id="attachment_5116" align="alignnone" width="700"] Image Credit: RedMart[/caption]

Ingredients (provided by RedMart):
Red Curry Paste
Fish Sauce
Basmati Rice
Chicken Fillet
Coconut Cream
French Beans
Eggplant
Baby Corn
Coriander

Other Required Ingredients:
Salt
Cooking Oil

Directions:

  1. Bring the rice to a boil with double the amount of water (use a cup to measure) and a pinch of salt. Once boiling, stir a little, put a lid on, and turn the heat to low. Cook for 15 minutes and set aside when done.
  2. Wash and dry all veggies and get chopping. Cut the ends off the beans and halve them, halve the baby corns lengthwise and – after disposing of the cap – cut eggplant to large chunks.
  3. Rinse chicken with cold water and pat dry with paper towel. Cut them into chunks that are slightly larger than bite-sized.
  4. Put a big frying pan or a medium wok on the fire and add some cooking oil. Once hot, throw in the chicken and curry paste, and fry for 2 minutes on high heat.
  5. Pour in the coconut cream and all prepared veggies. Refill the entire coconut cream container with water, swish around and tip into the pan. Let the curry come to a gentle bubble, turn down the heat and keep it on a simmer for about 7 minutes, stirring it regularly.
  6. If the sauce gets too thick, add a little more water.
  7. While the curry is bubbling, wash and chop up the fresh coriander leaves (discard the stems).
  8. Towards the end, add the fish sauce to the pot and give it a final stir.
  9. The curry is done when the beans and eggplants are cooked but still have their crunchiness.
  10. Serve with hot basmati rice and sprinkle fresh coriander on top.

RedMart also offers other ready-to-cook recipes and ingredients for you to choose, so feel free to head down to their website and try out the different meals you can make!

2. Macaroni and Cheese

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
6 cups 2% milk
3/4 pound elbow macaroni
3 cups grated sharp white cheddar
1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Heat broiler. In a large straight-sided, oven-safe skillet, melt butter.
  2. Remove 1 tablespoon butter and combine with breadcrumbs and Parmesan.
  3. Add onion to skillet and cook until softened.
  4. Whisk in flour and cook, stirring, 1 minute.
  5. Very gradually whisk in milk and bring to a simmer.
  6. Add macaroni and cook, stirring constantly and scraping bottom of pan, until tender, about 6 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat, stir in remaining cheese and the mustard, and season with salt and pepper.
  8. Top with breadcrumb mixture and broil until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes.

10 Annoying Girlfriend Habits Every Attached Guy Can Relate To

What’s up, my fellow brethren! Whether you’ve been in a long-term relationship for some time or you’ve just started going out with that girl who you confessed your love to on Valentine’s day, you might have noticed some girlfriend ‘habits’. It makes you wonder if you are the only one dealing with these ‘habits’.

Fret not, we’ve got your back! Here’s a list of ‘habits’ we came up with, that hopefully describes your situation, so you know you are not alone!

1. The “Jealous Queen”

They are the ones who get jealous over every little thing, even if we’re just playing a game of Dota 2 with our buddies. You could join us sometime if you want to…

2. The “anything, but don’t want this or that” when deciding what to eat.

Too oily, too boring, too far, too spicy, too unhealthy. We’ve heard it all. Please decide already, we just want to go to a place and enjoy a nice dinner.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="609"] Credits: Giphy.com[/caption]

3. The “say one thing but mean another”

Let us know if that’s not what you meant, because that’s exactly what we’ll take it for. As much as we want to, we can’t read your mind.

[caption id="attachment_4514" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: trippapparel.com[/caption]

4. The “it’s your fault”

We know, we’ll probably never ever win a fight against you, because girl-logic always wins.

[caption id="attachment_4515" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: onsugar.com[/caption]

Sorry!

5. The “Trap layer”

Every time you ask questions like these, our heart skips a beat because that’s the point when an enjoyable night with you could transition into our worst nightmare.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: Buzzfeed[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4522" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Credits: memesvault[/caption]

6. The “Instagrammer”

It’s nice to have pictures to keep as memories, but sometimes it’s better to live in the moment! At other times, the food is getting cold and we want to eat it quickly.

[caption id="attachment_4516" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Credits: whichdn.com[/caption]

7. The “Overly-Attached”

We need our space, no exceptions!

[caption id="attachment_4518" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: madaboutmemes[/caption]

8. The “Stalker”

It’s a mystery why FBI hasn’t hired you because I would if I were them. To be fair, some guys are guilty of it and do it pretty well too.

[caption id="attachment_4519" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: 9gag[/caption]

9. The “overly-sensitive”

Please don’t over-think, we love you. We probably just fell asleep and didn’t read your messages. Not angry, not breaking up, just sleepy.

[caption id="attachment_4520" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: viralnova[/caption]

10. The “double standards”

Well, let’s face it, equality is probably never going to happen anyway.

[caption id="attachment_4521" align="aligncenter" width="700"] Credits: quickmeme[/caption]

With all that said, we still love y’all ladies.

Possessing these ‘habits’ do not spell the end of your relationship. Different guys and girls have different preferences and needs. As much as we like to complain, we probably still love our girl more than anything else.

I love cooking with eggs. They’re a great source of protein, they taste great by themselves, they complement other dishes and of course, they are affordable! Eggs may look easy to prepare but somehow I mess ’em up a lot. Scrambled eggs always turn into ‘sahara-dry eggs’.

If you’re not so skilful with eggs like me, here are 10 quick and easy ways to make delicious eggs that are beyond breakfast.

1. Hard Boiled Eggs

https://www.instagram.com/p/BDgj5pkB3lp/?tagged=hardboiledeggs

Have you had dry or a greenish tinge around your hard boiled eggs? Guess what, you’ve been preparing hard boiled eggs the wrong way! (yes, there’s a correct way to prepare these eggs) With the right method, you’ll be on your way to making great eggs for pastas, salads, and devised eggs!

To make perfect hard-boiled eggs:

  1. Place egg in a saucepan and cover it with water. (Add a pinch of salt to prevent the eggs from cracking)
  2. Heat the pan on high heat and until the water is full on boiling. (Do not over boil)
  3. Turn off the fire but keep the pan on the stove. Cover it with a lid and let it sit for 12 minutes.
  4. After 12 minutes, strain the heated water and run cold water over the eggs.

2. Shakshuka

Now here’s a magnificent recipe that will impress. Shakshuka is a Middle Eastern dish of eggs poached in sauces of tomatoes, peppers and onions. It is healthy, comforting and flavourful. Best made on a lazy weekend.

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=618QsMaVXp8[/embed]

Ingredients: (serves 4-6)

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cans (14 oz.- 400g each) diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoon (30g) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • chili flakes, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 6 eggs
  • fresh parsley/cilantro for garnish

Directions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a 12-inch frying pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook for about 5 minutes.Stir in garlic.
  3. Add red bell pepper and continue to cook it for about 5-7 minutes or until softened.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, diced tomatoes, all spices and sugar. Season it with salt and pepper. Let it simmer over medium heat for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Crack the eggs over the tomato mixture, one in the middle and 5 around the edges of the pan. Cover the pan and simmer for another 10-15 minutes or until eggs are cooked.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley or cilantro and serve it with crusty bread.

6. Eggs Benedict

If egg-splosive poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce makes you egg-cited, this classic Eggs Benny recipe is what you need.

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdMiUO7-2GM[/embed]

Ingredients:

  • 1 Egg yolk
  • 3/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 teaspoon cold water
  • 2 whole eggs
  • 4 slices of Capicola ham
  • 1 whole english muffin

Directions: Hollandaise sauce

  1. Use a double boiler (indirect heat) to cook egg yolk
  2. Fold in the melted butter gradually into the egg yolk
  3. Stir mixture until desired texture is achieved
  4. Add lemon juice and cayenne pepper. Season with a little bit of salt.

Directions: Eggs Ben

  1. On a sauté pan, toast the english muffin and Capicola ham to make it nice and crispy
  2. Poach the eggs (see above) season it with salt and pepper
  3. Ensemble your dish!

If ham is not your thing, you can substitute it with fried bacon or for a less guilty version, use smoked salmon instead.

7. Frittata

Frittata is an Italian egg based dish similar to a crustless quiche. Like omelettes, frittata can be filled with meat, cheese, vegetables but they are thicker in size and richer in flavour.

[embed]https://www.facebook.com/BuzzFeedFood/videos/1222256521120905/[/embed]

Ingredients:

  • 1 sweet potato, diced
  • 1 red onion, chopped
  • 6 eggs
  • 3 tablespoon sour cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated parmesan (a handful)

Directions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, mix eggs, sour cream, salt and pepper.
  2. Heat a frying pan with some butter and put in the sweet potato, red onion and salt. Cook it for 8-10 minutes.
  3. Pour in the eggs and add grated parmesan and bake it at 350 fahrenheit/ 180 degrees celsius for 12-15 minutes.

The magic about frittata is that you can be creative with the fillings (good way to hide vegetables that you don’t want to eat but have to eat), and it is suitable for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Here are some frittata ideas that you can look into:

8. Oven Baked Mini Omelette

Here is something easy to prepare and an egg-stremely delish! We absolutely love this recipe because you can make this and store in the freezer, and then reheat it for another day. Besides, this mini omelette also makes a great side dish for a home cook packed lunch.

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU4mRZBpjyM[/embed]

Ingredients:

  • 8 eggs
  • 1 brown onion, diced
  • Handful of shredded ham or bacon
  • 1/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1 cup of grated cheese
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Stir fry the ham/bacon and onion.
  2. Lightly grease the muffin pan.
  3. Divide ham and onion and mixture evenly into muffin pan. Sit that aside to let it cool.
  4. Add milk, oil and baking powder into eggs. Season mixture with some salt and pepper.
  5. Whisk egg mixture together.
  6. Top ham and onion mixture with some grated cheese.
  7. Pour in egg mixture into the muffin pan.
  8. Send it in to the pre-heated oven at 375 fahrenheit/ 190 celsius degrees , for about 20-25 minutes.

Like the frittata, you can play around with the ingredients and make it nutritious. On a different note, pop some wasabi into one of these and you’ll have a game of roulette for your friends.

9. Simple Egg-cellent Salad

Now that you’ve mastered the skill of hard boiled eggs (point 1), try this Sriracha instead of hot sauce when preparing the egg filling.

To be honest, I think I can nail all 10 ways to cook eggs and will definitely try making the Shakshuka this weekend. How about you? Drop us a comment and tell us which egg recipe you would like to try next. Egg-stra points for you if you can tell us an egg pun!

Known as “The Best Korean Fried Chicken in Singapore” (Straits Times’ famous food writer, Tan Hsueh Yun, picked it in a blind tasting), Chicken Up serves a wide variety of fried chicken with fancy names such as Spicy Up, Curry Up and Suicide Chicken, coated in a batter that gives some serious ccccrunch. They also double fry their chicken, making it less greasy and crunchier. If chicken and beer is your thing, their Chimac buffet* (featuring this wicked pair) is available daily from $35++ -$45++ (Additional $20 surchage on Friday).

*Chimac buffet is only available at Tanjong Pagar, Tampines, Parkway Parade and Buangkok

    6. Kko Kko Na Ra

Kko Kko may sound like a bird’s chirp, but at Kko Kko Na Ra, all you’ll hear is sizzle sizzle crunch crunch.

    [embed]https://www.instagram.com/p/5UR0N_yZJa/?taken-at=225249258[/embed]

Kko Kko Na Ra is one of the first restaurants to bring the KFC trend to the sunny shores of Singapore. For that, we bow down. What are we going to do without our beloved KFC? Offering 4 different flavours- original, soy garlic sauce, sweet & spicy, and hot & spicy, they aim to serve fried chicken with a twist of its own. We suggest going for the Chicken Combo set so you can try all four flavours. Reservations are advised for large groups or dinner time, as it requires quite a bit of patience to chuup a table during peak hours.
