These 6 Rose-Flavoured Foods Are The Perfect Way To Celebrate Your Love Of Millennial Pink

With the rising popularity of millennial pink, it seems rose-flavoured things have come into trend in the world of F&B. The humble ingredient has come a long way since our first taste of it in Bandung. Now, it’s found its way into mooncakes, crepes and even fried chicken!

Not only does it smell great, rose has many health benefits, including antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and moisturising properties.

If you’re a fan of the floral flavour, here’s a list of 6 foods and drinks that put rose front and centre!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know Cha Tra Mue has been making waves in Singapore with the launch of their rose tea, which comes in three flavours: Rose Milk Tea, Honey Rose Tea and Lychee Rose Tea.

Their cups are all very Instagram-worthy, and we think they deserve the title of “Bangkok’s prettiest tea”.

Of the three drinks, the hot favourite is the Rose Milk Tea ($4.50) – a cup of  fragrant Thai milk tea that has a faint taste of rose and a whiff of floral fragrance. For those who are slightly lactose-intolerant, try the Honey Rose Tea and Lychee Rose Tea. These refreshing drinks will keep you going for the rest of the day!

They gel seamlessly together into a pleasantly creamy treat with light floral notes. The taste is neither overpowering nor elusive – truly a rose creation that’s deserving of admiration.

The ornate pastry is served with a Rose macaron on top, which consists of two light and crisp cookie shells sandwiching a delicate rose buttercream filling. While great with the rest of the cake, you’ll love it on its own too!

These rose creations are not only easy on the eyes, they also play well with the taste buds.

The great thing about rose is that because it’s light, it doesn’t overpower the other flavours it’s brought together with. If you love your millennial pink and love a light, floral flavour to go with your food or drink, these are a must-try.

Casuarina Curry House pays tribute to local flavours with its Ondeh Ondeh prata ($4.90). While slightly pricey for prata, its unique flavour makes it worth every buck. 5. Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice (Jalan Besar)

[caption id="attachment_27571" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: Burpple User Jayson Yeoh[/caption]

Nothing is as delightful as a saucy, messy plate of curry rice when the city is fast asleep. This glorious plate of scissors-cut rice at Jalan Besar is liquid gold for late night party-goers. Slap a pork cutlet, braised cabbage, and a gooey fried egg onto your rice! As with any cai fun store, the price differs depending on what ingredients you pick, but the price hovers around $3.
If you have extra calories to spare, add the Ngoh Hiang to your rice – it has a nice crunch from the water chestnuts within the fried, crispy skin.

The best part of this hearty and economical meal is the mixture of 4 different types of sauces on the mountain of food – curry, braised gravy, chilli oil, and chilli sauce. A beautiful mess indeed.

Live Out Your Wizard Fantasies At Platform 1094 – Dine On Magical Food And Bewitching Drinks

Fancy yourself a bit of a wizard? At this cafe, you can pretend to be it for a day–or at least a couple of hours.

There’s a wizard themed cafe in town and here, you can leave the muggle life behind by donning the elaborate cloaks, witches’ hats, and accessories like wands and broomsticks that are provided free of charge.

[caption id="attachment_27385" align="alignnone" width="2880"] Pretend to be a wizard for a day at Platform 1094[/caption]

At this cafe reminiscent of The Three Broomsticks (the wizarding pub you may recognise from the Harry Potter books), a brick wall with a mystical-looking crest forms the perfect backdrop for all your photo-taking needs.

[caption id="attachment_27386" align="alignnone" width="2037"] The perfect backdrop (and props!) for all your photo-taking needs[/caption]

No mere muggle or wizard will be able to resist grabbing some nosh at this pretty place, and we quickly succumbed to their quirky menu that was filled with magical-sounding drinks, finger foods and desserts.

Where else can you find food that sounds like it came straight out of a spell book?

Drink, drank but not drunk: Mrs Lich’s Butterscotch Ale ($10)

[caption id="attachment_27716" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Image Credit: Spam fries[/caption]

When you’re wielding this wand of utter deliciousness, no Death Eater will dare get between you and your food. For an extra oomph to your Avada Kedavra, dip the hot and savoury spam sticks into the sweet Thai chilli dip. There’s no going back after that.

The Main Dish: Schnitzel Sous-vide Duck Breast ($19)

This dish consists of well-seasoned, meaty pieces of duck breast flavoured with herbs and spices. The duck is then battered and fried to a beautiful golden hue that almost outshines the Goblet of Fire.

As if we were under the spell of dark magic, we found the unpredictable mix of flavours and textures oddly bewitching.

Here at Platform 1094, wizards and muggles alike are bonded by food, laughter and cosy camaraderie. Whiz by on your broomstick (or drop by on your two feet) whenever you’re craving a little magic in your cafe-hopping spree!

These 10 Places Serve Waffles That Are Sweet, Savoury, And Batter Than The Rest

Waffles are such a versatile food. You can have them sweet or savoury, and you can have them any time of the day.

Although they can be found everywhere, not all waffles are created equal. The perfect waffle is fragrant, light, with just the right amount of crunch. From taro waffles to Korean fried chicken waffles, here is a list of the best waffles in Singapore. Try not to salivate while reading.

For those with a sweet tooth,

1. Hatter Street Bakehouse & Cafe

Hatter Street Bakehouse & Cafe is probably one of the more underrated cafes selling waffles in Singapore. Their waffles are baked to the perfect level of crispiness, while remaining moist within, and the texture of the waffle is consistent throughout.

[caption id="attachment_27452" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Pandan Ice Cream with Gula Melaka Sauce Whoa’ffles (Image Credit: Burpple User Doreen Tan)[/caption]

The Pandan Ice Cream with Gula Melaka Sauce Whoa’ffles ($9.50) was rich with local flavours. Instead of honey or chocolate sauce, Hatter Street drizzles Gula Melaka over the waffles. The Pandan Ice Cream was a nice accompaniment, with its light pandan fragrance. The waffle was perfect for soaking up the mixture of Gula Melaka and the melted scoop of creamy ice cream.

Chocolate Root Beer Float Waffle (Image Credit: Burpple User Cafehoppingkids .)[/caption]

The Chocolate Root Beer Float Waffle ($12) is an aesthetically pleasing dessert creation. The rectangular waffle comes with a chocolate chip cookie, and an ash grey charcoal vanilla soft serve to top it all off. The charcoal soft serve had a hint of root beer in every mouthful, which did not overwhelm the original vanilla taste.

[caption id="attachment_27180" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: Burpple User Jayson Yeoh [/caption]

Because Red Velvet is so 2015, The Cold Pantry has taken their waffles to the next level by introducing Pink Velvet Waffles with Baileys Coffee Ice Cream and Sea Salt Caramel drizzle ($13.50). The rose-infused waffle and slightly bitter Baileys Coffee Ice Cream combo is a sure-win on two fronts: your stomach and your Instagram feed.

Served with one scoop of gourmet ice cream, the Taro Waffles ($15.90) has a rich taro taste, with beautiful purple hues. The waffle screams “Taro Heaven” as there was taro infused within the batter, and a generous spread of yam paste all over the buttery waffles. While the ice cream is nothing too special, the waffles more than made up for it.

[caption id="attachment_27455" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Image Credit: Some recommended flavours are the old school Kaya Waffle ($1.70) and the cannot-go-wrong Peanut Butter Waffle ($1.80). Classic, tasty, and oh-so-nostalgic, these waffles are the perfect comfort food to take with you on the go.

6. Revelry

For those of you who prefer your waffles savoury instead of sweet, Revelry is the place for you. They serve ‘Burffles’, a cross between burgers and waffles. The Revelry Signature Burffle ($18) comes with juicy beef patties, lettuce, tomatoes and cheese sandwiched between crispy waffles. The waffle quarters are crisp and light, making the dish less heavy on the stomach.

The Waffles Royale ($17.50) is a spin on the classic all-day breakfast favourite, Eggs Royale, but with a waffle in place of the usual English muffin. The waffle has a light, fluffy texture and with its subtle flavour, pairs nicely with the runny poached eggs and creamy Hollandaise.

Alternatively, try the Ocean Catch ($7.90). The golden brown fish fillet is tender, with bonito flakes and mayonnaise scattered and splattered over it. Fish and Chips lovers should definitely give this a try as the Ocean Catch is a unique twist on savoury waffles.

This ‘EZ-Link System’ For Beer Lets You Drink To Your Heart’s Content And Pay By The Millilitre

If craft beers are your thing, you’ll love this down-to-earth establishment in eastern Singapore.

Tucked away in the coastal Changi Village is Little Island Brewing Co., a quaint little bar and bistro with much to say for itself.

[caption id="attachment_27257" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit: Be your own bartender with LIBC’s most unique feature–beer you tap yourself.

All you’ve got to do is grab a stored value card, pick your poison, and sample as much as you like! Prices are tagged to the volume of liquid goodness you dispense.

[caption id="attachment_27259" align="aligncenter" width="839"] Image Credit:
LIBC originals include the refreshing Pale Ale (Whiter Shade of Pale), Golden Ale (Sister Golden Ale), Red Ale (Ruby Tuesday), Singapore Pale Ale (Oh Yeah) and creamy Irish Dry Stout (Black Magic).

Behind the vats is Stephen Spinney, an award-winning British brew master with more than a dozen years of professional brewing experience.

[caption id="attachment_27258" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit:
His craft beers are nothing short of authentic and delicious. Brewed in small batches on site, they’re all unfiltered, unfined and unpasteurised.

What’s best, with affordability at the heart of the business, you’ll only pay about $2 to $3 for 100 millilitres of happy juice.

That’s prices starting at just $10 a pint!

Succulent Meats

As tempting as it is to fill up on beer, you’ll want to spare some room for the (often beer-infused) food.

The dishes served at LIBC are just as mouth-watering, and are matches made in heaven with the drinks.

[caption id="attachment_27260" align="aligncenter" width="2048"] Image Credit:
Their top-notch slow-cooked meats is the must-try here.

The signature beer belly pork is marinated in coffee, chilli and cumin, while the 15-hour smoked beef brisket comes with Memphis slaw, horseradish dressing and chimichurri sauce.

And bite on this: their hearty set lunches go for just $15, while dinner is only $16.

The Venue

Large tanks of beer equipment, concrete counters and communal wooden tables furnish the 10,000 square foot space.

The whole rustic atmosphere, especially the alfresco area, reminds us of an Australian beer garden.

With views through the trees and the sea just a stroll away, this is one place where your afternoon could easily leak into a chill evening session.

These 15 Hipster Cafes In Johor Bahru Are Worth Braving The Customs For

Love discovering new cafes?

So do we! Over the past couple of years, we’ve seen a surge of new cafes popping up all over Singapore, and it seems the cafe scene has grown across the border too. With plenty of hipster cafes with cool, unique decor and delicious brunch-fare in JB, there’s one more reason to cross the border.

If you live for decadent brunches, chill vibes and lazy, care-free afternoons, you’ll fall in love with these hipster cafes. Not only do they have their own distinct aesthetic, they also have signature foods (and drinks!) you won’t find in Singapore.

Here are 15 hipster cafes in JB we think are worth crossing the border for.

1. Bev C (Halal)

Housed along the street, along with a string of other hipster cafes is this nook that’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. With its entrance bedecked in rustic, earthy tones of wood and brick, it certainly has a homely quality to it.

Situated opposite Taman Sentosa, at B.LO.C, you can drown your crispy goreng pisang in cheese or dark chocolate; you can even dunk it into creamy ice cream! Better yet, coat it with crunchy golden cereal, drizzled with hot caramel sauce. The flavour combinations are limited only by your imagination.

Coffee with cute, stenciled animals and cakes with faces–these are some of the things you’ll find at this lovely cafe. It was an immense struggle deciding on the animals for our cakes and drinks. Not to mention, having to destroy these cute works of art killed us a little bit inside.

[caption id="attachment_25723" align="aligncenter" width="786"] Image Credit: @catherinechewkailay[/caption]

Sip on a cute kitty with this “Cat-puccino”, a brew with a nutty, chocolate-y aroma and a lingering sweetness. If you’re wondering, Miyakori’s coffee beans are imported from El Salvador, Sumatra, and Brazil.

[caption id="attachment_25722" align="aligncenter" width="797"] Image Credit: @whyohwhyareyouxy[/caption]

Old school meets cute-slash-psychedelic at this cafe. Retro school lockers, carpet grass and cloud motifs on the walls… We love the eclectic vibe of this coffee spot. At the entrance, look out for a large pink behemoth, the guardian of this 2-storey cafe.

Try their much raved about Cold Brew coffee, and sip on one of their lattes, which come with customisable latte art. Pick your design, or let the barista surprise you!

[caption id="attachment_25728" align="aligncenter" width="790"] Image Credit: @annyew[/caption]

Dig into their Monsta Espresso Chicken Chop that comes with a shot of Espresso, lending the sauce a unique kick of flavour. The Monsta Mamee Burger is also crunchy and addictive, but we advice eating it deconstructed, as it’ll fall apart after a bite.
