Deliveroo’s New Food Market Features Self-Order Kiosks And Digital Cubbies For Fuss-Free Dining

We all know Deliveroo for delivering our favourite eats right to our doorstep, but they’ve since pushed the envelope to go from online to offline.

Within the last two years, the food delivery giant has launched two physical dining spaces in Singapore known as ‘Deliveroo Editions’, which double up as their delivery-only super kitchens.

Following the success of these two sites, Deliveroo has recently launched their biggest and most advanced Editions site in Singapore to date.

Called the deliveroo food market, this new space is just a stone’s throw away from the new Mediacorp headquarters, sitting on the first floor of ALICE @ MEDIAPOLIS. Its eye-catching teal interior makes the place hard to miss!

This new site is a significant ‘upgrade’ from their previous Editions sites, with the addition of a tech-enabled dining space that can accommodate up to 40 people.

7 Restaurants Housed Under One Roof

Deliveroo food market houses 7 restaurants and a total of 11 food concepts, which has been carefully curated based on user demand.

Some noteworthy restaurant partners include popular favourites like Korean fried chicken brand Bonchon, Vietnamese noodle bar NamNam, NamNam’s sister brand COMNAM, Omakase Burger, and Rasa Rasa.

You can also order from some of the virtual brands that are exclusive to Deliveroo such as EZO Hokkaido Eats by Omakase Burger, which serves quality Japanese dons (like their Signature Butadon).

For those who are health-conscious, there are plenty of wholesome options as well. VIOS by Blu Kouzina for one, offers bowls that are carefully packed for a balanced diet without compromising on taste. You can even pick your favourites with their Build Your Own Bowl option!

Its sister brand, Lucky Souvlaki by Blu Kouzina, specialises in traditional Greek street food that is made with quality ingredients like organic meat.

Japanese Curry Katsu Pork from EZO Hokkaido Eats, Kway Teow Goreng from Rasa Rasa, Pho Beef Steak Slices and Beef Balls from NamNam, and grain bowls from Chop Shop

Crispy Imperial Rolls from NamNam,  Nasi Goreng Kampung from Rasa Rasa, Signature Butadon from EZO Hokkaido Eats, Summer Chirashi Bento from The Flying Squirrel

On the other hand, Chop Shop by Pot Luck Club offers delicious grain bowl options like the Thai BBQ Chicken, and you can also get gourmet salads and sandwiches from Delismith by Pot Luck Club.

A Taste Of Dining In The Future

What’s unique about this food market is its fully-automated ordering system.

These Digital Cubbies act as ‘smart lockers’ for food collection

Designed to offer customers “a taste of dining in the future”, the entire ordering experience is automated and powered by eatsa, a San Francisco-based technology automation company.

The ordering process is seamless and very user-friendly. If you’re familiar with ordering food through Deliveroo’s app, this shouldn’t be a problem for you. In any case, there are instructions on the screen to guide you along through the whole ordering process. If you do encounter any issues, there are service staff around as well.

Instead of ordering over the counter or at tables like most dining establishments, you get to browse the menu and place your order at any of the five self-serve kiosks onsite. Once you’ve settled on your order, checking out is just as easy! You simply need to tap or swipe your card for payment.

Order and pay cashless at these kiosks.

Track your order on the digital status board

After placing your order, your name will appear on the digital status board. Once your food is ready, the number of an assigned digital cubby will appear alongside your name.

You can then head over to the designated cubby for food collection. Your name will also appear on the door of the cubby, which is a pretty nice touch as it makes the dining (or ordering) experience more personalised.

Tap twice on the ‘door’ to collect your food

Food is placed on a tray for easy collection

For those who prefer takeouts, there is a takeaway option as well, which you can select when you place your order at the kiosks.

An Alternative Dining Experience At One-North

Lunch can be a stressful experience for the working crowd, but the entire order-and-collect system makes it so much easier. It is perfect for those who want to avoid unnecessary fuss during their precious lunch break — simply tap to order, pay, and collect your meal.

The deliveroo food market is also a good alternative for group dining as the many restaurants housed under one roof offer a plethora of options for all. Unlike a food court, the laid-back ambience there makes you feel like you’re dining at a cafe instead.

Moreover, the space offers power points and wifi access, which makes it a great place for working professionals to dine and chill at.

The first ‘home’ for Nineteen95 Espresso Bar

For those who need their caffeine fix, the food market also houses Nineteen95 Espresso Bar—this is the first fixed location for the mobile coffee cart brand. Besides that, you can also get Magnum ice cream bars and pints of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream there.

The deliveroo food market is only open for dining during lunch from 11am to 2.30pm, and for dinner from 4.30pm to 9.30pm. Beyond these hours, you can still order from the restaurants via delivery until 10pm!

No Friends, No Problem – Deliveroo Removes Minimum Spending So You Can Order For One

If you’re like me and find that most of your income is going to food delivery services, then I’ve got great news.

As of today, Deliveroo has REMOVED minimum spending for orders in densely populated neighbourhoods such as Jurong, Woodlands, Sengkang, Punggol and Tampines!

This isn’t the full list, don’t worry. I’ll get to it below.

Say Goodbye To Minimum Spending

Previously, users will have to hit a minimum spending of $12 to be able to complete your order and have it delivered.

[caption id="attachment_35599" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]Deliveroo Singapore Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

But not anymore! Because let’s be honest, the function only ended up with more food wastage and excessive spending for no particular reason.

[caption id="attachment_36667" align="aligncenter" width="400"]Deliveroo Singapore GIF Credit: tenor[/caption]

Now, here’s the full list of neighbourhoods that will have $0 minimum spending implemented.

  • Admiralty
  • Ang Mo Kio
  • Bedok
  • Boon Lay
  • Bukit Batok
  • Bukit Panjang
  • Choa Chu Kang
  • Hougang
  • Jurong East
  • Jurong West
  • Loyang
  • Mandai
  • Pasir Ris
  • Punggol
  • Sengkang
  • Sembawang
  • Tampines
  • Woodlands
  • Yishun

Other than these heartlands, the $0 minimum spend will also be implemented in the Central Business District (CBD) but there’s a catch – it’s only applicable for orders BEFORE 6pm.

Anyway, this is great news for people like me who use the food delivery service a lot because having to constantly find people to pile on the orders to hit minimum spending is tedious.

With this change, there’s no better time to download and use Deliveroo!

Deliveroo Singapore Offers Halal-Only Delivery Bags To Cater To Their Muslim Customers

Deliveroo Singapore

If you frequently use food delivery services, you’d realise that the same bags are used for all orders, regardless of restaurants, Halal certification, or Vegetarian orders.

Also, what if the food spills out?

[caption id="attachment_35597" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Deliveroo Singapore Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

So in response to this potential concern and at the request of Muslim restaurants and customers, Deliveroo has decided to just straight up separate halal from non-halal food – by introducing Halal-only delivery bags!

Halal Food Meets Halal Bags

Singapore will be one of the first of the 12 countries that Deliveroo operates in, to receive halal-only delivery bags.

[caption id="attachment_35360" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Deliveroo Singapore Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

The halal bags are set to be distributed to 3,000 riders in various phases in the month of July.

If the public’s response is favourable, Deliveroo will increase the number of riders carrying halal bags to its remaining 6,000-strong fleet.

In conjunction with this launch, the Deliveroo app will be updated to indicate the Halal certification of a particular restaurant, and riders will be expected to use the Halal-only bags for those orders.

[caption id="attachment_35598" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Deliveroo Singapore Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

By the end of July, your food order might be delivered in Halal-only bags if you’re ordering from a Halal certified restaurant.

At least now, whenever I order for a party, my Muslim friends can eat in peace.

Food And Football Is A Clear Winning Combo – Here’s What Goes Down Before A Soccer Match Party

Deliveroo

Soccer season is finally upon us, and what better way to catch the game than with friends at a Soccer Match Party?

My family used to spend the entire afternoon cooking our signature “Game Wings” and stir-fried Bee Hoon so that my friends would all have something to eat while watching the game.

[caption id="attachment_35364" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

Now, thanks to the prominence and popularity of food delivery services, my family doesn’t have to spend an entire afternoon preparing food anymore.

Of course, good things have to be shared, so here’s how we do it.

1. Order in and Have Your Food Delivered to You

Personally, my family loves using Deliveroo.

[caption id="attachment_35360" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

They’re fast, efficient, and the best part is that they always have a promotion going on so you’re not spending any more than you should.

2. Pick a Cuisine and Restaurant

Okay, this is a first-world problem. We usually take quite a while to decide on which restaurant to order from because everyone wants different things.

It’s not our fault that Deliveroo has an extensive list of food vendors to choose from.

From 14 June to 15 July 2018, Deliveroo is offering promotions with tons of merchants and vendors because it’s Soccer season!

That’s not all, they will be extending their operation hours to 2am for certain areas and restaurants, which means Deliveroo riders will be available until 2am, though options will vary depending on the restaurants.

From $12 promotions to 1-for-1 deals, there’s plenty to choose from.

Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice is offering a $12 deal on their set meal for 2 pax which comes with 2 Steamed Chicken Rice, Oyster Sauce Vegetable, and mineral water.

[caption id="attachment_35363" align="aligncenter" width="645"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

Mex Out is also offering a 1-for-1 deal on their large burritos and you can choose from Chicken, Pork or Vegetable fillings! It’s easy to eat, so you can focus on the game.

[caption id="attachment_35361" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

Collin’s Grille comes through with a $12 platter that comes with chicken karaage, assorted sausages, French fries, sweet potato fries, BBQ sauce and mayonnaise for dipping.

[caption id="attachment_35362" align="aligncenter" width="1024"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

My favourite taco place, Vatos Urban Tacos, is having a Vatos Party Pack which allows you to make and customise your own tacos and burritos at home! If you’re a big eater, don’t worry, it comfortably feeds 5 to 7 people.

[caption id="attachment_35356" align="aligncenter" width="5146"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

There are many more promotions that you can find on Deliveroo’s website. Simply search for ‘Football Meal Deals’ for the list of promotions!

3. Don’t Forget the Booze

No soccer match party is complete without BEER.

While we’re not promoting excessive alcohol consumption, Deliveroo is also having the Deliveroo Beer Accumulator promotion, where they give out the same number of Brussels Beer Project beers as the number of goals scored from the group matches up to the semi-finals.

[caption id="attachment_35358" align="aligncenter" width="683"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

All you have to do is order from Deliveroo Editions Katong on finals day before 10pm and select the $0 free beer option from the menu.

Don’t worry, Deliveroo will announce the final number of beers given away on Facebook, before the final match.

4. Don’t Miss Out on Any Promotions

Beers aren’t the only thing that Deliveroo is giving away for free this Soccer season.

Stand a chance to win Deliveroo credits with every goal in the $2 Goal Giveaway!

[caption id="attachment_35357" align="aligncenter" width="255"]Deliveroo Image Credit: Deliveroo Singapore[/caption]

For orders made between 6pm to 10pm on the day of selected matches, Deliveroo will give away $2 credit with every goal. However, penalties don’t count. Check out the terms and conditions here.

To see which matches will score you Deliveroo credits, follow Deliveroo on Instagram and Facebook.

That’s not all, Citi Cash Back Cardholders will be glad to know that there is 20% cashback on all Deliveroo orders from 14 June to 13 August 2018.

The best part is that this 20% cashback is valid on top of promotions and discounts. For more information on this promotion, do check out the Citi Cashback terms and conditions here.

5. Dine, Score and Win with Deliveroo!

While you boys were making a din in the living room, your Deliveroo rider is probably outside waiting for you to open the door.

Food’s here! So dig in and have the best soccer match party this June and July with Deliveroo!

5 Ways To Enjoy Your Chicken Wing Without Getting Your Fingers Dirty

Chicken wings are the world’s favourite finger food. You can’t go wrong with chicken wings. Always a party favourite, they come in an ever-growing variety of flavours.

If you’re craving for some chicken wings, Deliveroo has got your back with Wing It Wednesday. Every Wednesday in January, chicken wings go for 50% off!

Discounts aside, there is one tiny downside to eating chicken wings though: You’re bound to get your fingers dirty.

Because we hate dealing with greasy fingers, we’ve come up with 5 ways to enjoy your wings without getting your fingers dirty.

1. Get Someone To Feed You

If you’re looking to keep your fingers clean while decimating your chicken wing, get someone to feed it to you. Like royalty.

[caption id="attachment_32723" align="aligncenter" width="480"] GIF Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

These Garang Chilli Wings ($7.50, U.P $14.99) from Garang Grill are a spicy affair.

For a non-spicy alternative, go for the mild and sweet Honey Butter Wings ($7.50, U.P $14.99). Sticky sweet caramelized honey butter coated wings sound really good right now and you won’t even get your fingers dirty!

2. Wear Disposable Plastic Gloves

If you’re unable to find someone to feed you chicken wings at a moment’s notice, then maybe try something a little more practical.

Wear disposable plastic gloves. Like the ones that they hand out to people at Long Beach Seafood Restaurant and Captain K.

[caption id="attachment_32724" align="aligncenter" width="480"] GIF Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

When armed with a plastic glove, the world becomes your plate. Take on Sarpino’s Chicken Wings ($4.45, U.P $8.90), armed with your trusty plastic glove.

Choose from BBQ, Sweet Chilli, or Cayenne Rub flavours. No sauce is going to stain your fingers. Not today.

3. Use A Fork And Knife

To keep your fingers looking and feeling pristine, how about reaching for the trusty fork and knife?

[caption id="attachment_32725" align="aligncenter" width="480"] GIF Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Perfect for digging into the Ganjang (Soya) Wings ($6.42, U.P $12.84), the bestseller at Chicken Up. Fresh deep fried chicken wings slathered with a special soya sauce blend.

But if you’re looking to kick things up a notch, go for the Yangnyum Wings ($6.42, U.P $12.84) or the Spicy Yangnyum Wings ($6.42, U.P $12.84). The chicken wings are coated in a sweet chilli sauce for a spicy kick.

Sounds like a pain to clean up afterwards – we’ll stick to our forks and knives.

4. Have Your Butler Remove The Bones For You

For the richer folks, have your butler remove the bones for you.

[caption id="attachment_32726" align="aligncenter" width="480"] GIF Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

It’s stress-free, and you don’t have to do any work. Just eat. Since you already have someone removing the bones for you, might as well keep eating.

Get the 12 Piece Wing Set ($8.23, U.P $16.45) from Wing Zone and the second set comes at 50% off! We recommend going for their signature Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings – zesty and peppery with hints of garlic and parmesan flavours.

So many chicken wings, and none of the work. Most importantly, clean fingers!

5. Eat Your Chicken Wing Next To Running Water

You must be truly desperate to come to this point.

If you’re deathly afraid of greasy fingers but still love your chicken wings, then we suggest eating your chicken wing next to running water.

Like so.

[caption id="attachment_32727" align="aligncenter" width="480"] GIF Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Since you’re already washing your hands while eating, how about some lemongrass from The Orange Lantern’s Fried Chicken Wings ($4.55, U.P $9.10) that are marinated with lemongrass before being deep-fried to perfection.

It might sound ludicrous and a complete waste of water, but if you’re that afraid of oil then this is one ridiculous way to (stressfully) enjoy your wing.

Let’s admit that at the end of the day, the best way to enjoy a chicken wing is to get your hands greasy, to extract every shiok bit of chicken from the bones.

[caption id="attachment_32728" align="aligncenter" width="480"] GIF Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Starting the year with weekly Chicken wing Nights sounds like a great family and friends bonding session. So don’t miss out on Deliveroo’s Wing It Wednesday promotion this January!

A Makcik Revamped Nasi Ayam With Lava Eggs And Sous-Vide Chicken – But Is It Worth $9.50?

Chicken rice might seem like a simple dish – easy to cook, but hard to perfect.

In Singapore, you’ll find that most stalls offer up Hainanese chicken rice, served up with sides like braised eggs, vegetables and tau kwa (braised tofu).

Makcik Chicken is here to change the chicken rice game, putting a modern twist on the classic Singaporean dish!

Legend has it that there is a makcik with chicken rice skills second to none

Mackcik Chicken is run by a couple who used to work at a media advertising agency, which would explain why their branding game is so on point.

Makcik Chicken maintains that a very camera-shy makcik wants everyone to try her secret recipe. We’re going to assume that makcik exists, so here goes nothing!

Our boxes of chicken rice arrived in simple brown cardboard boxes, no frills attached. But as soon as you open the box, you’ll be greeted by the comforting fragrance of chicken rice. Smells good? Check.

[caption id="attachment_29922" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Simple yet satisfying chicken[/caption]

In case you were wondering what’s so special about Makcik’s chicken; the chicken is cooked sous-vide style. For those who didn’t learn to cook from a French chef, that means your chicken was cooked in a vacuum bag to keep it from becoming overcooked. As promised, the chicken was juicy, tender and bursting with flavor with every mouthful.

If you don’t like spice, you probably won’t be impressed by the rice (although it does come in a huge portion). Once you add a lil red or green chili, it’s like the rice suddenly came alive in your mouth. The red chili is potent, with loads of garlic, whilst the green chili is slightly sourer because of the vinegar.

Tastes good? Check.

Makcik be working her magic with lava eggs and glittery drinks

The Hanjuku eggs (soft boiled eggs) was the ultimate deciding factor that made me decide that I liked Makcik’s chicken rice. Seriously, their Hanjuku eggs can even compete with the ones that are sold at 7-Eleven.

Grab a drink to accompany your meal while you’re at it. Makcik has stirred up three concoctions to choose from; a crazy good Bandung that even comes with rose petals, a Calamansi Fantasti that comes with a refreshing tinge of mint, and Cik Rose Syrup Limau, a combination of rose syrup, lime and pomegranate drink to satisfy your sweet tooth.

If you have $10 to spare, you might want to consider trying Makcik’s Jambu Jampi Juice, a rose apple drink that swirls with shiny, sparkly edible glitter. Plus points for presentation!

The only downside that we could really foresee is that there isn’t space for you to dine in when you visit their outlet; there’s only a bench outside right now.

Your best bet is to order Makcik Chicken through Deliveroo, Ubereats, or Honestbee so that you don’t need to hunt for a place to enjoy your meal before it becomes cold.

The only thing really stopping me from ordering from my dear Makcik everyday is the $9.50 price tag. While you might not be able to afford to have it everyday, it’s definitely worth trying. Or maybe every once in a while as a treat.
