Rationalise and conquer your fears at Phobia²: The Science of Fear from 13th April onwards.

Clowns, Coffins And Claustrophobia

Guests will embark on a journey about common fears and phobias as well as self-discovery. So if you’re planning on overcoming your fears, we suggest you bring a friend with you.

This exhibition is designed to stimulate guests with a low-level anxiety experience so you don’t have to worry about any clowns jumping on you or being trapped in a tiny box.

We went through it and survived to tell the tale. We promise you, it’s 100% safe.

Designed by Newman Entertainment International (NEI), the exhibition features all sorts of interactive galleries for guests to gain a better understanding about fear.

Buried Alive

Have you ever had a dream where you’re being buried alive and you scream but no one ever hears you?

Taphophobia is the fear of being buried alive. So if you ever want to know how it feels like to be buried alive, all you have to do is slide under the coffin and see it for yourself.

We got to try it out ourselves, safe to say, we don’t ever want to face that situation ever again.

Sideshow Carnival

We all hate clowns. Nobody likes clowns.

Needless to say, this clown gallery scared the living daylights out of us.

You can expect to enter a space which is decorated like a side-show carnival. This room contains various sculptures, a life sized comical clown and interactive displays.

This was hands down the freakiest gallery in the entire exhibition.

We could barely last more than 5 minutes in this room.

Claustrophobia

Claustrophobia is the fear of enclosed spaces and boy oh boy, this particular one felt like there was no way out.

As you walk into this tunnel, it becomes smaller so you are required to stoop down and squeeze out into a small winding tunnel to exit.

The exit was so small that we had to get down on our hands and legs just to be able to get out.

Do remember that you can bypass this experience by taking a ‘Chicken Out’ door.

The Stage Is Yours

Have you ever given a speech in school or work that made your palms sweaty and your knees go weak?

Speaking in front of a crowd may come naturally for some but a nightmare for others.

The exhibit offers guests the opportunity to stand in front of a projection dome. You are to read out loud from a teleprompter to a projected audience who will then react in real-time to the comments made in the speech.

We couldn’t help but feel slightly insecure when the crowd started laughing mid-speech but don’t worry, they’ll give you a standing ovation at the end.

Give this one a try if you haven’t tried speaking in front of a crowd.

Sitting For An Exam

Studying for an exam is pretty nerve wrecking, especially when your final grades depend on it.

Enter a room with study desks that contain TV panels built within the desk tops.

Through the TV panels, students will share their experiences on exam fears and provide tips on how to overcome them.

If you know someone who fears sitting for an exam, bring them here to learn tips and tricks on how to overcome their fears.

This Trippy Mirror Maze Will Have You Losing Yourself In Infinite Reflections And Endless Hallways

If you love a good maze, or have been told you look at your own reflection too much, you’ll love the newest setup at the Science Centre.

Professor Crackitt’s Light Fantastic! Mirror Maze has to be the most visually pleasing permanent exhibition yet.

But beware–it’s super trippy.

The psychedelic showcase features 105 mirror cells, and more than 17 interactive exhibits and experiments on light.

There’s also a whole bunch of fake exits and holograms to add to the thrill–or panic–depending on how brave you are.

The rooms house exhibits like crazy kaleidoscopes and a lightning entrapment apparatus.

The brains behind the maze is Adrian Fisher Design, the world’s leading creator of mazes and seven time Guinness World Record holder.

Attempting the maze could be a daunting feat for some, but if you feed off a sense of adventure, you’ll enjoy every bit of it.

The Backstory

There’s a story behind the maze too.

Professor Crackitt, an eccentric, fictional scientist has lost his pet parrot Wattnot in his vast laboratory (read: the mirror maze), and you’re supposed to help him find it.

So make sure you look out for this parrot, even as you tinkle with the whimsical experiments along the way.

3. Stargaze

If you’ve heard or even used the line, “I see stars in your eyes” then you’ll want to come here.

These sessions, called Night Sky Ramblings are free. The activity takes place every Friday from 7.45pm to 10pm. The Science Centre also offers free solar observations if that’s your kinda activity.

Depending on the month you go, you might be able to see Jupiter, Mars, Saturn and Venus.

So why not pop over on a Friday night and gaze at something besides your SO’s eyes for once?

5. Island hop

It’s like cafe-hopping, but with islands. And yes, in Singapore too!

Did you know that Singapore is actually part of an archipelago? Singapore is made up of 63 islands with both natural and artificial islands. Well-known islands include Sisters island, Kusu island and St Johns island.

Some of these islands are accessible by boat and will make for a nice relaxing day trip. However, pack your own food as most of them don’t have food places. An excuse to have a nice romantic picnic!

There are also lagoons around some of the islands where you and your date can take a dip and chill.

At this museum, you’ll be able to learn all about these ancient creatures and also, have a hand at feeding them.

Look out for rare creatures like the matamata (No, not the police!) and the snake headed turtle.

8. Cycling in Pulau Ubin

Nothing beats feeling the wind while cycling down a slope. There’s also no other feeling like hanging out with your love. Combine the two together and you have a nice cycling date in one of Singapore’s most popular islands.

You can even  try the coconuts from the famous Pulua Ubin ah ma. Or head down to the quarry – a piece of Singapore’s past and check out the scenery at the same time!

Take a break from hunting Pokémon and explore animals like boars and tide creatures at the nearby Chek Jawa.

9. Custom make your very own perfume

Wearing matching clothes isn’t the ‘hip’ thing anymore – smelling like each other is the new black!

At Je taime, you’ll be able to blend all kinds of fragrance ingredients to create your very own scent.

Both you and your partner will be required to take a personality quiz to determine the right kinds of scent for you. Or you could always go with your imagination and mix away!

Dubbed one of Singapore’s most well-kept secrets, the Thow Kwang Pottery Jungle is a place that combines heritage, history, discovery, and fun. It gives vibes of an old museum and you can actually buy proper pottery and art at a reasonable price!

There’s also the Dragon Kiln (a furnace/oven for burning pottery), one of the oldest surviving brick-built kilns in Singapore for wood firing. If you’d like to learn more about pottery, Thow Kwang also hosts a series of workshops that will give you your Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze “Ghost” pottery moment.

5. MegaZip Adventure Park

Up for an adventure with your buddies? Head down to Sentosa’s MegaZip Adventure Park to get your adrenaline going. Hang 450-metre high up and swing across a jungle, beach, and the sea at a speed of up to 60 kilometres!

Not a fan of swinging across Sentosa? Check out Climb Max, an obstacle course consisting of three levels of aerial ropes at 15 metres high. That sure sounds like the next Singapore Ninja Warrior course!
