Aqua S

For all of you with a sweet tooth, your blood sugar levels are about to go through the roof.

Sydney’s famous turquoise Sea Salt Soft Serve (say it quickly 10 times) brand, Aqua S, will be opening their first outlet in Singapore soon!

[caption id="attachment_36393" align="aligncenter" width="1067"]Aqua S Image Credit: @aquas_au[/caption]

While many foods have claimed to be Instagrammable, this is by far the prettiest we’ve seen, judging from their Instagram posts.

But that’s not why we’re excited – they have some really interesting soft serve flavours!

Sydney Sea Salt Soft Serve

While Aqua S is known for their Sea Salt soft serve, they have over 100 flavours back home in Sydney.

Some of the interesting flavours include Egg Pudding, Tofu, Baileys, and Manuka Honey.

[caption id="attachment_36392" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Aqua S Image Credit: @aquas_au[/caption]

As you can see, each flavour comes in their own delightful hue, with their signature Sea Salt flavour in turquoise.

Every ice cream cone is black, which makes the colours of their soft serve look more vibrant by contrast.

You can also choose to mix 2 flavours in a swirl, because let’s be honest, with over 100 flavours, you want to try as many flavours as possible.

[caption id="attachment_36395" align="aligncenter" width="1002"]Aqua S Image Credit: @aquas_au[/caption]

After choosing the flavours for your soft serve, next comes the toppings.

Aqua S didn’t neglect this aspect because popcorn and an cotton candy are available as toppings and a freaking TOASTED MARSHMALLOW ON A STICK.

Takagi Ramen Now Offers Delivery For Under $10 A Bowl: But Is Dabao-ed Ramen Any Good?

Takagi Ramen

When you’ve worked for more than a year in Tai Seng, lunch options quickly run out and nothing seems more appealing for lunch than a nap.

But today, the office decided to order in. We were sick of fast food options so we decided to get ourselves some ramen.

Enter Takagi Ramen.

https://www.facebook.com/TakagiRamenShop/videos/10160524102020317/

They’ve recently started offering islandwide delivery for their ramen, which is great news because Tai Seng is a ghost town and the queues at Takagi Ramen outlets are always long.

[caption id="attachment_36349" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: Takagi Ramen[/caption]

I managed to find 6 other like-minded colleagues who thought ramen makes for great comfort food on a rainy day.

Send Nood(le)s

Unlike food delivery services, what you find on the menu at Takagi Ramen outlets, is what you’ll find on their delivery menu as well.

And the thing about Takagi Ramen is that it’s really affordable, with their base ramen all below $10. You can check out their full delivery menu here.

We ordered a Miso Ramen, a Mazemen, a Takagi Ramen, 2 Karaka Ramen, and 2 Black Tonkotsu Ramen. The total came up to $63.60 with a delivery fee of $20.

The delivery fee wasn’t explicitly stated on their delivery site, so it was a bit of a shock. They do have free delivery for orders above $100 though.

Good luck trying to scrounge up enough orders to hit $100 with such affordable prices.

Ramen Reviews

Our ramen arrived in neat little tubs that resembled upsized ice cream tubs. Also, Takagi Ramen switched to this current all-paper, 100% biodegradable packaging since last year so, kudos to them.

[caption id="attachment_36350" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

They may seem small but they’re really not. Here’s a hand for comparison.

[caption id="attachment_36353" align="aligncenter" width="955"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_36352" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

If you’re wondering why some orders have a ramen egg, it’s an add-on for $1.50 per egg.

Here’s a closer look at the different ramen.

[caption id="attachment_36355" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

What you’re looking at is the signature Takagi Ramen ($7.90), which is their most basic and standard ramen.

The tonkotsu broth here is surprisingly light, and not too rich, making it easier to finish. We’ve had broth that’s too rich and by the time we finish the noodles, more than half the soup remains. The noodles were clumped together even when it was placed into the broth.

We had to microwave the tub so the noodles would split. Thankfully, the taste remained the same.

This was by far the crowd favourite out of all the orders.

Verdict: 4/5

Up next is the Miso Ramen ($8.50).

[caption id="attachment_36356" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

The Miso Ramen didn’t fare as well as the Takagi Ramen. It’s pretty normal, with a light broth. If you prefer lighter broths for your ramen, then you might like this.

[video width="720" height="1384" mp4="https://cdn.discoversg.com/wp-content/2018/08/doc_2018-08-01_18-04-53.mp4"][/video]

But the miso flavour wasn’t very prominent and we would prefer it to be a little stronger.

Verdict: 2.5/5

For the spice lovers, there’s the Karaka Ramen ($8.50).

[caption id="attachment_36357" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

The Karaka Ramen is great because the spice doesn’t overpower the tonkotsu broth, so you can still the underlying broth.

[video width="720" height="1384" mp4="https://cdn.discoversg.com/wp-content/2018/08/doc_2018-08-01_18-05-11.mp4"][/video]

And it’s not too spicy either, so it’s great for those of you who like to add shichimi (chilli powder) to your ramen.

Verdict: 3/5

Next is the only dry ramen order we had – the Mazemen ($7.90).

[caption id="attachment_36359" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

The dry ramen is served with sweet corn, roasted nori strips, scallions, and sweet ginger-braised pulled pork.

While it sounds good, the flavours did not really translate properly, and the rest of ramen came across as a little bland. The only real flavour came from the ginger-braised pulled pork, and even that was relatively mild.

[video width="720" height="1384" mp4="https://cdn.discoversg.com/wp-content/2018/08/doc_2018-08-01_18-05-16.mp4"][/video]

If you’re looking for something extremely light on the palate, get this.

Verdict: 2.5/5

Now, for my order, the Black Tonkotsu Ramen ($8.90).

[caption id="attachment_36358" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

The Black Tonkotsu Ramen comes with slow-roasted black garlic-infused tonkotsu broth and comes with menma (bamboo shoots) and black fungus strips for added crunch.

I like ramen with black garlic oil and it’s my usual order at my go-to ramen restaurants. So I decided to give this one a try.

Right off the bat, the noodles were surprisingly springy even after I microwaved it. The black garlic-infused broth wasn’t too salty, which is good for me I guess, though I personally prefer stronger flavour.

I felt that there wasn’t enough black garlic oil, so an option to ask for more black garlic oil would be good.

The lean chashu was a little tough, which is to be expected since it’s been left out of the broth for quite a while.

It wasn’t as shiok as other Black Tonkotsu ramen I’ve had, but it still does the job. Plus it’s affordable, so that’s a plus point.

Verdict: 3/5

Overall Verdict

Takagi Ramen markets themselves as “Ramen For The Average Singaporean”, and they stay true to that motto.

[caption id="attachment_36360" align="aligncenter" width="1280"]Takagi Ramen Image Credit: DiscoverSG[/caption]

Their ramen, while it’s nothing to shout about, does its job and is incredibly affordable. Plus, now that they deliver islandwide, getting your hands on a comforting bowl of ramen is much easier than before.

But if you’re going for quality, you might fare better if you visit any of their outlets. After all, ramen was never meant to be a takeaway dish.

15 Best Stalls To Visit At Twilight: Flea & Feast – Indoor Bazaar With All-S’porean Food, Clothes And Crafts

Did you hear? The highly anticipated Twilight: Flea and Feast is back again for it’s third edition! If you missed out on #TWILIGHT18 earlier on in February, don’t fret. From 3 – 5 August, make your way down to the Suntec Convention & Exhibition Centre for a day of browsing through dozens of flea stalls, free movie screenings and of course, sinking your teeth in tasty eats!

This indoor bazaar houses over 100 stalls selling popular street food, clothes, accessories and handmade crafts. This time round, you guys are in for a real treat as you’ll find more than 50 F&B vendors – you probably won’t know where to start!

For the first time since its inception, all vendors showcased at the event will be local. Which is why this year’s edition of TWILIGHT will be themed “Proudly Local” so both vendors and visitors get to celebrate everything we love and remember about Singapore.

To help you out with your upcoming shopping and gastronomic adventure, we’ve listed out some of our favourite makan and shopping vendors that you HAVE to visit!

What To Makan

1. Saiko

Think of Saiko as the elevated version of your typical pasar malam takoyaki joint!

Serving up Japanese street food realness, Saiko serves takoyaki in sizeable portions with full bite-sized fillings. You can choose from 3 different fillings – octopus, chicken and braised mushrooms. You also have the option of mixing 2 different fillings in one serving.

[caption id="attachment_36276" align="aligncenter" width="3807"]Twilight Flea & Feast Image Credit: Discover SG[/caption]

Other selections include Classic, Dashi (takoyaki with dashi broth, bonito flakes and scallions) and Miso (takoyaki with miso butter and rice krispies). Top it all off with a perfectly cooked onsen egg for just an additional $2!

We promise you that the takoyaki from Saiko won’t disappoint!

2. Burgernomics

Burgernomics got everyone raving over them when they first opened at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre. They aim to differentiate themselves by keeping their burgers honest and simple, but with a distinctive Asian twist.

[caption id="attachment_36277" align="aligncenter" width="1240"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @burgernomics_sg[/caption]

This time round, you get to satisfy your burger cravings without having to travel all the way down to Pasir Ris!

We heard that their burgers are really popular at events so head down early to avoid the long queues.

3. Inariku

If you eat, sleep and breathe all things Japanese, then you’re going to love this one.

Trained at the Tokyo Sushi Academy to fortify her passion for Japanese cooking, you can expect her highly raved lobster inari which comes in small sets of 4, ramen, unagi bento and more!

[caption id="attachment_36278" align="aligncenter" width="1680"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @ria897[/caption]

We recommend getting her lobster inari which is a combination of lobster and squid salad which sits atop a bed of sushi rice. All these premium ingredients are nestled within some Inariage aka Aburaage (the sweet beancurd pouch) and finished off with some Japanese mayonnaise.

4. O’Braim

O’Braim entered the pasar malam circuit around 2016 selling goreng pisang (banana fritters) with a modern twist.

They sell banana fritters in different flavours, including chocolate and cheese with condensed milk, while using a goreng pisang recipe passed down from their grandmother.

[caption id="attachment_36279" align="aligncenter" width="1254"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @redroselips[/caption]

You’ll always find long queues at their stall which also means “confirm plus chop good”.

5. Ikan1986

A must have at every BBQ, their freshly grilled otah is one of the best we’ve had at any pop-up events!

Based on a traditional family recipe dating back to 1986, their staple menu item has fed scores of people ever since.

[caption id="attachment_36280" align="aligncenter" width="1886"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @ikan1986[/caption]

Made with fresh mackerel and a select number of equally fresh herbs and spices, their freshly grilled otah remains a delightful way to please the palate and tummy; either as an afternoon snack or part of a meal.

6. Egg Stop

Opening early August 2018 at Paya Lebar Square, you’ll get to try their sandwiches first at Twilight Flea & Feast.

Although we don’t know much about them yet, their sandwiches look like the perfect mid-afternoon snack.

[caption id="attachment_36281" align="aligncenter" width="1256"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @eggstopsg[/caption]

Just look at all that filling spilling out of their sandwich. We don’t know about you, but we’re definitely excited to try this one out!

7. Katoshka

Katoshka needs no introduction from us. They’re seen at almost every bazaar/pop-up events that they’re pretty much a household name by now.

They go by a very simple concept: good ol’ fries served in cups laden in different sauces, from special cheese, sour ranch, chilli beef and sambal cheese.

[caption id="attachment_36282" align="aligncenter" width="1254"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @thekatoshka[/caption]

If you love their fries as much as we do, then go get yourself a cup (or two) at Twilight!

8. Naughty Boyz

Known for their spicy mac and cheese, this is the perfect meal for sharing.

[caption id="attachment_36283" align="aligncenter" width="1786"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @naughtyboyz_[/caption]

Their mac and cheese is bound to be a gooey delight. I mean, who doesn’t like cheese?

9. BOO:EH

BOO:EH serves up inspired butterbeer like the ones you see in Harry Potter World. This homemade brew consists of 2 parts – soothing liquid gold and dreamy butterscotch foam.

[caption id="attachment_36284" align="aligncenter" width="1032"]twilight flea & feast Image Credit: @boo.eh[/caption]

The flavour is so rejuvenating and unique that it transports you to a magical world at the first sip.

8 Hawker Food Haunts That Are Tried, Tasted, And Recommended By True Blue S’poreans

Sometimes, with so many food options available in Singapore, I tend to forget what my favourite food is. It’s Mee Hoon Kueh.

Everyone has like, 3 favourites so it’s really hard to choose one. But here are some favourites that I’ve managed to source from my friends, with their favourite place to go for that particular dish.

Here we go.

Bak Chor Mee

1. Meng Kitchen

Meng Kitchen has been around since 1946, serving up bowls of fishball noodles and mushroom minced pork noodle (bak chor mee).

[caption id="attachment_36231" align="aligncenter" width="3968"]singapore food Image Credit: yumyumformytumtum[/caption]

They’re better known for their Bak Chor Mee. For just $4, you get a bowl of minced pork, meatball, springy mee pok coated with chilli, vinegar, and garnished with crispy pork lard.

[caption id="attachment_36230" align="aligncenter" width="645"]singapore food Image Credit: Burppler Casey Tan[/caption]

Meng Kitchen used to be 24 hours though now they close from 5am. It still remains a popular supper spot for many.

Meng Kitchen
Address: 246B Upper Thomson Road, Thomson Garden Estate, Singapore 574370
Opening Hours: Daily: 9am – 5am
Contact no.: 6455 4890

Fish Soup

2. Blanco Court Fish Soup

Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup is one of the old greats that used to reside in the now-demolished Blanco Court Food Centre.

The broth here is flavourful though some find the soup too salty.

The fried fish is crispy and chunky and the broth is served with plenty of deep fried egg batter.

[caption id="attachment_32157" align="aligncenter" width="640"]singapore food Image Credit: Burpple User Justin Teo[/caption]

They also use spinach in their soup (we LOVE spinach), which imparts a different texture and taste to the dish compared to the more bitter chye sim variants.

They’ve moved to a new standalone shophouse at Beach Road and they added other dishes such as Black Bean Fish Head with BittergourdPrawn Rolls and Chicken Wings besides their signature Fried Fish Soup.

Blanco Court Fried Fish Soup
Address: 325 Beach Road, Singapore, 199559
Opening Hours: Mon – Sat: 10am – 7.30pm
Contact no.: 9151 2401

3. Yong Lai Fa Ji Shu Shi

Yong Lai Fa Ji Shu Shi looks like a run-of-the-mill fish soup stall, but the queues are always long – a clear indicator of good food.

[caption id="attachment_36238" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]singapore food Image Credit: Philip Lim[/caption]

The fish is always freshly picked every morning by the stall owner, and each bowl of fish soup is cooked only upon order.

For $4, you get a no-frills bowl of fresh sliced fish soup with lettuce, seaweed and white tofu. Add on 50 cents for a bowl of rice to go with your soup for a more substantial meal.

[caption id="attachment_36240" align="aligncenter" width="720"]singapore food Image Credit: Philip Lim[/caption] [caption id="attachment_36241" align="aligncenter" width="2048"]singapore food Image Credit: Philip Lim[/caption]

Do expect a bit of a wait though.

Circuit Road Food Centre #01-66, 79A Circuit Road, Singapore 370079
Opening Hours: Fri – Wed: 12pm – 8pm, Thu: Closed

Ban Mian

4. Qiu Lian Ban Mee

Qiu Lian Ban Mian first started in Bishan and has since expanded, with multiple outlets all over the island.

They’re known for their Ban Mian ($4.50), I mean it’s in the name after all.

If you love your Ban Mian, this is one that you need try. There’s really nothing much to say about this except that it’s really good Ban Mian.

The ingredients are pretty standard – egg, minced pork, vegetables, and their handmade ban mian in the signature broth.

[caption id="attachment_36246" align="aligncenter" width="645"]singapore food Image Credit: Burppler Siming T[/caption]

You can find the full list of Qiu Lian Ban Mian below.

5. Yumen Hut

Yumen Hut is the only place I know of that sells halal Ban Mian and Mee Hoon Kueh.

[caption id="attachment_36247" align="aligncenter" width="960"]singapore food Image Credit: Susan Wong[/caption]

Instead of pork, they use chicken. Which seems odd, but it works, surprisingly.

[caption id="attachment_36248" align="aligncenter" width="720"]singapore food Image Credit: Yumen Hut[/caption]

Apart from their Ban Mian and Mee Hoon Kueh, other bestsellers include their unique noodles made with different vegetables – pumpkin noodles, spinach noodles, and carrot noodles.

Yumen Hut

Opening Hours: Daily: 10am – 10pm
Contact no.: 6581 5191

And Mee Hoon Kueh should ALWAYS be hand-pulled. There’s just something about the texture that makes it that much better than the flat, uniform slices favoured by generic Mee Hoon Kueh stalls these days.

If you’re not a fan of Mee Hoon Kueh, the stall also has Pork Porridge and Koka Noodles available.

Ci Yuan Community Club Hawker Centre Mee Hoon Kueh
Address: 51 Hougang Avenue 9, Ci Yuan Community Club Hawker Centre #01-08, Singapore 530917
Opening Hours: Daily: 7am – 11pm

Chicken Rice

7. Katong Shopping Centre Delicious Boneless Chicken Rice

Every time Katong Shopping Centre is mentioned, I hear about this chicken rice stall. And as someone who shuns chicken rice because bone-in chicken is too much of a hassle for my liking, boneless chicken rice is a God-send.

[caption id="attachment_34511" align="aligncenter" width="645"]singapore food Image Credit: Burppler Nobelle Liew[/caption]

And that’s not all, their boneless chicken rice comes with complimentary soup and free-flow achar. One thing to note is that the soup they serve is not your generic MSG water – they actually cook proper soups to go with their chicken rice.

After all, good chicken rice should not overlook any aspect of the meal.

8. Tong Fong Fatt Boneless Chicken Rice

Tong Fong Fatt Boneless Chicken Rice is probably the ONLY chicken rice brand that’s primarily non-halal, but has a halal outlet at Bedok.

Good guy Tong Fong Fatt.

For $4.50, you get a plate of traditional Hainanese boneless chicken rice. The chicken is generously doused in their soya sauce, so you can be guaranteed that it’s not bland.

The chilli sauce still has a spicy kick without being too overpowering. If you’re looking for another chicken rice spot to try, go for this.

Oyster Omelette

9. Hougang Fried Oyster

Oyster Omelette, or Orh Luah, is a dish that I usually avoid because I don’t understand what compels people to eat something as slimy as oysters.

Hougang Fried Oyster has been around for over 25 years, serving plate after plate of fried oyster omelette.

[caption id="attachment_36259" align="aligncenter" width="645"]singapore food Image Credit: Burppler Bryan Lee[/caption]

For $4, you get a crispy yet fluffy omelette cooked in lard with 4 oysters, fish sauce and sambal chilli.

There’s also a $5 option which gives you 6 oysters. The chilli here is homemade using fresh chilli, pork lard, and dried shrimp. Don’t underestimate this potent concoction because it packs a really strong punch.

Masala Thosai

10. Ananda Bhavan

Ananda Bhavan has the BEST Masala Thosai in Singapore”, said my overenthusiastic friend.

And for good reason too. It’s the most popular South Indian recipe and Ananda Bhavan does it well.

[caption id="attachment_36260" align="aligncenter" width="550"]singapore food Image Credit: TripAdvisor[/caption]

Simple plain thosai is served with a side of mashed potatoes. No frills and extremely comforting.

If you’re craving for a prata, I suggest you give Masala Thosai a try instead. It might (will) become your new favourite.

If You Love The Beef Cubes At The Geylang Bazaar – They’re Opening A Store In Tampines Soon!

Tampines residents sure are spoilt for choice, with so many new eateries opening in Century Square.

First there was Seoul in a Sandwich, then Two Hana, and now Beef Bro will also be opening an outlet there on 5 August 2018!

If you were at the Geylang Serai Bazaar this year, you’ll probably recognise Beef Bro.

They were the newcomers at the annual Geylang Serai bazaar this year and generated long queues.

Beef, Bro

Opened by Mediacorp actor Danial Ashriq, Beef Bro made their debut at the Geylang Serai Bazaar this year and drew crowds with up to an hour and a half of waiting time.

[caption id="attachment_36199" align="aligncenter" width="768"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption]

What they’re known for is, of course, beef. Specifically, flame-grilled beef cubes, like the ones you find in Taiwan.

[caption id="attachment_36201" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_36202" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption]

Each order of beef cubes is seared and cooked with a blow torch upon order and comes with a selection of toppings such as Mentaiko, Cheese, Garlic Chilli, Barbecue Sauce, and even their signature Sambal Belacan!

[caption id="attachment_36200" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption]

Using a blow torch to cook beef cubes is not a new concept to Singaporeans. There’s Huoyanshaiziniu that opened in 313 Somerset earlier in January this year, who brought the concept of blow-torched beef cubes from Taiwan to Singapore.

The difference here is that Beef Bro is Muslim-owned and they use 100% halal ingredients. They’re currently working towards the MUIS Halal certification so our Muslim friends can rest assured that what they’re eating is Halal.

Their first outlet at Century Square will serve up their signature blow torch beef cubes as well as an expanded menu with bento sets.

For those of you who don’t eat beef, they also have flame-grilled seafood options too!

[caption id="attachment_36203" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption] [caption id="attachment_36204" align="aligncenter" width="768"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption]

The popular Mentaiko Beef Cubes will go for $14.90, while the Chicken Cubes and Mentaiko Scallops go for $5.90 and $11.90 respectively.

Bento sets go for $8 to $13, with an option to add mozzarella cheese for an extra $2.

[caption id="attachment_36205" align="aligncenter" width="1080"]Beef Bro Image Credit: Beef Bro SG[/caption]

You’ll be able to choose your preferred doneness for the beef cubes. Though if you order it well done, then maybe you shouldn’t go for the beef. Just saying.

Beef Bro opens at Century Square on 5 August 2018 and the first 200 customers will get FREE beef cubes. Good things must share so don’t say we neh say.

We All Love Laksa, Curry And NESTUM, So Starbucks Turned Them Into Pies And Cakes

Starbucks

Starbucks has always been known as the boujee cousin of our local kopitiams.

However, people still flock to them for their beautiful, whipped cream-topped drinks, or a cold brew. Either way, Starbucks is no stranger to Singaporeans.

This National Day period, Starbucks pays tribute to the Lion City with a range of desserts with local flavours.

5 Stars For Starbucks

From savoury to sweets, Starbucks has got you covered with their local delights.

For something with a spicy kick, go for the “Mai Hum” Chicken Laksa Pie and the “Hiam Ah” Devil’s Curry Pie.

As its name suggests, the “Mai Hum” Chicken Laksa Pie does NOT come with clams. The “Hiam Ah” Devil’s Curry Pie consists of egg, chicken sausage, and potato cooked in curry.

[caption id="attachment_36190" align="aligncenter" width="1751"]Starbucks Image Credit: Starbucks Singapore[/caption] [caption id="attachment_36191" align="aligncenter" width="1568"]Starbucks Image Credit: Starbucks Singapore[/caption]

For the chocolate lovers, the “Orh Orh” KIT KAT® Chocolate Cake actually comes with a stick of KIT KAT® buried on top of each slice of cake.

[caption id="attachment_36192" align="aligncenter" width="1875"]Starbucks Image Credit: Starbucks Singapore[/caption]

Of course, KIT KAT® isn’t exactly a Singaporean flavour. But this next one definitely is.

This is the “Sedap Lah” Pandan Gula Melaka Cake. Gula melaka cream sandwiched between layers of pandan-infused sponge cake, and topped with coconut flakes.

[caption id="attachment_36193" align="aligncenter" width="1850"]Starbucks Image Credit: Starbucks Singapore[/caption]

The last one is my favourite – the “Tok Kong” NESTUM® Cake.

NESTUM® is such a nostalgic flavour. My mother used to make it for me for breakfast when I was younger. I loved it then, and I still love it now.

[caption id="attachment_36194" align="aligncenter" width="1870"]Starbucks Image Credit: Starbucks Singapore[/caption]

This “Tok Kong” NESTUM® Cake comes with creamy NESTUM® sandwiched between layers of almond sponge cake, and garnished generously with a speculoos crumble. Mmm…..

Seen anything that you’d like to try? You better hurry down to your nearest Starbucks to get it before it runs out!

Liang Sandwich Bar

Singaporeans are spoilt when it comes to the variety of food that’s available.

There’s at least one new franchise opening an outlet in Singapore every month. Recently, Isaac Toast opened in Plaza Singapura’s basement.

Now, Liang Sandwich Bar from China has opened its first outlet in Singapore at Vivocity!

Scallion Pancake Sandwiches

The sandwiches at Liang Sandwich Bar aren’t made with bread. What’s used instead, are scallion pancakes that come with fillings such as chicken, shredded lettuce, egg crepe, and sauce.

[caption id="attachment_36180" align="aligncenter" width="1440"]Liang Sandwich Bar Image Credit: Liang Sandwich Bar[/caption]

Endorsed by iconic Taiwanese singer-songwriter, Jay Chou, Liang Sandwich Bar has over 12,000 outlets across 300+ cities such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, United States of America, Canada, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and now Singapore!

If you’ve tried and love scallion pancakes, you’ll love this. Scallion pancakes are much more fragrant than toasts and already hold plenty of flavour on its own.

[caption id="attachment_36182" align="aligncenter" width="960"]Liang Sandwich Bar Image Credit: Liang Sandwich Bar HQ[/caption]

Throw in traditional sandwich ingredients and you have a Liang scallion pancake sandwich.

There are 9 different scallion pancake sandwiches on the menu for you choose from.

The Chicken Bolognese Sandwich ($5.50) and the Liang Chicken Sandwich ($5.90) are both recommended by Jay Chou.

The Liang Chicken Sandwich comes with savoury smoked chicken, shredded lettuce, egg crepe, and a sauce of your choice.

[caption id="attachment_36183" align="aligncenter" width="960"]Liang Sandwich Bar Image Credit: Eat n Hop Sabah[/caption] [caption id="attachment_36184" align="aligncenter" width="960"]Liang Sandwich Bar Image Credit: Eat n Hop Sabah[/caption]

You can also choose the type of sauce you’d like to have in your sandwich. The recommended sauce is definitely the Liang’s Sauce that’s made from a special secret recipe.

Recently, Food League SG’s Zermatt Neo paid them a visit and scarfed 10 of the scallion pancake sandwiches.

https://www.facebook.com/LiangsandwichSG/videos/1053621838150972/

If you’re looking to get your hands on one of Liang’s scallion pancake sandwiches, better expect to queue and wait for a bit because each one is prepared upon order.

Anybody hungry for a scallion pancake sandwich? Because WE ARE.

Whenever I’m having a bad day, one of the few things I find comfort in, is a hot bowl of ramen.

Singapore is no stranger to ramen establishments, with many dotting the island, serving up bowls of comforting noodle soup.

This weekend, Singapore’s largest and only ramen event, Ramen Revolution returns for its 2nd edition!

The Revolution Returns

This year’s Ramen Revolution will be bigger and better than last year’s, with an extensive event lineup spanning the weekend, taking place at Resorts World Sentosa, The Forum B1!

Some of the participating ramen stores include local favourites like Kanshoku Ramen, who will be presenting their best-selling Truffle Ramen, and Hokkaido Ramen Santouka with their event-exclusive Tantanmen – made with their signature shio base, sesame paste, and chilli oil for that spicy kick.

For those of you who are intrigued by eating competitions, we have good news.

There’s the Food Fight, a speed eating competition, organised by Singapore’s very own Food League SG. Participants will have to finish a bowl of ramen and 8 gyozas in the fastest time. The fastest 6 will qualify for the finals on Sunday.

Popeyes Goes Local With Their Limited Edition Fried Mantou Sliders With Chilli Soft Shell Crab

popeyes singapore

In another attempt to capitalise on Singapore’s upcoming birthday, another fast food chain has jumped on bandwagon.

Introducing Popeyes‘ new Chic & Crab Mantou!

[caption id="attachment_36139" align="aligncenter" width="726"]popeyes singapore Image Credit: Popeyes Singapore[/caption]

Fried Mantou Sliders With Chilli…Crab?

Available from now till 3 September 2018, the Chic & Crab Mantou will be available at all Popeyes outlets islandwide.

For just $9.90 for a set meal, you’ll get 2 fried mantou sliders with crisp, battered soft shell crab in one, and Popeyes’ signature fried chicken in the other, a side, and a regular drink.

[caption id="attachment_36141" align="aligncenter" width="1200"]popeyes singapore Image Credit: Popeyes Singapore[/caption]

Both mantou sliders are topped with Popeyes’ special chilli sauce for a spicy kick.

However it doesn’t seem to be chilli crab sauce, so we’re skeptical. Though to be fair, the fried mantou is a nice touch.

Props to Popeyes for coming up with a locally-inspired menu item that’s relatively safe. Actual chilli crab sauce would be good though.

Or maybe chicken tenders with chilli crab dipping sauce? Just a thought.

Will you be giving the Chic & Crab Mantou a try?
