Face Your Fears This Friday The 13th At Science Centre’s New Exhibition
Does the thought of drowning scare you?
What about being buried alive?
Face your fears at this brand new exhibition that explores the science behind fear.
Rationalise and conquer your fears at Phobia²: The Science of Fear from 13th April onwards.
Clowns, Coffins And Claustrophobia
Guests will embark on a journey about common fears and phobias as well as self-discovery. So if you’re planning on overcoming your fears, we suggest you bring a friend with you.
[caption id="attachment_33963" align="aligncenter" width="280"] GIF Credit: giphy.com[/caption]This exhibition is designed to stimulate guests with a low-level anxiety experience so you don’t have to worry about any clowns jumping on you or being trapped in a tiny box.
We went through it and survived to tell the tale. We promise you, it’s 100% safe.
Designed by Newman Entertainment International (NEI), the exhibition features all sorts of interactive galleries for guests to gain a better understanding about fear.
Here are the galleries we highly recommend!
Buried Alive
[caption id="attachment_33952" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Buried Alive Gallery[/caption]Have you ever had a dream where you’re being buried alive and you scream but no one ever hears you?
Taphophobia is the fear of being buried alive. So if you ever want to know how it feels like to be buried alive, all you have to do is slide under the coffin and see it for yourself.
We got to try it out ourselves, safe to say, we don’t ever want to face that situation ever again.
Sideshow Carnival
We all hate clowns. Nobody likes clowns.
Needless to say, this clown gallery scared the living daylights out of us.
[caption id="attachment_33959" align="aligncenter" width="480"] Sideshow Carnival Gallery[/caption]You can expect to enter a space which is decorated like a side-show carnival. This room contains various sculptures, a life sized comical clown and interactive displays.
This was hands down the freakiest gallery in the entire exhibition.
We could barely last more than 5 minutes in this room.
Claustrophobia
[caption id="attachment_33960" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Claustrophobia Gallery[/caption]Claustrophobia is the fear of enclosed spaces and boy oh boy, this particular one felt like there was no way out.
As you walk into this tunnel, it becomes smaller so you are required to stoop down and squeeze out into a small winding tunnel to exit.
The exit was so small that we had to get down on our hands and legs just to be able to get out.
Do remember that you can bypass this experience by taking a ‘Chicken Out’ door.
The Stage Is Yours
[caption id="attachment_33961" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] The Stage Is Yours Gallery[/caption]Have you ever given a speech in school or work that made your palms sweaty and your knees go weak?
Speaking in front of a crowd may come naturally for some but a nightmare for others.
The exhibit offers guests the opportunity to stand in front of a projection dome. You are to read out loud from a teleprompter to a projected audience who will then react in real-time to the comments made in the speech.
We couldn’t help but feel slightly insecure when the crowd started laughing mid-speech but don’t worry, they’ll give you a standing ovation at the end.
Give this one a try if you haven’t tried speaking in front of a crowd.
Sitting For An Exam
[caption id="attachment_33962" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Sitting For An Exam Gallery[/caption]Studying for an exam is pretty nerve wrecking, especially when your final grades depend on it.
Enter a room with study desks that contain TV panels built within the desk tops.
Through the TV panels, students will share their experiences on exam fears and provide tips on how to overcome them.
If you know someone who fears sitting for an exam, bring them here to learn tips and tricks on how to overcome their fears.
Phobia²: The Science of Fear is the perfect opportunity for you to conquer your fears. With over 14 galleries for you to choose from, this exhibition is truly educational and highly interactive.
Who knows, you might eventually face your fears this Friday the 13th.
Grab your friends, gather some courage and head on down to Science Centre for this exciting exhibition!
Phobia²: The Science of Fear
Price: Admission to the exhibition is free. Standard admission charges to the Science Centre applies.

Lok No Further, Here Are The Best Lok Lok Spots In Singapore So You Don’t Have To Travel To JB
I’ll always remember the first time I ate Lok Lok out of a converted van in JB. Although it was a tad unhygienic, it was a truly fun and unique dining experience.
Lok Lok is a dish consisting of various deep-fried foods such as meats and vegetables that are served on a skewer and traditionally dipped into thick satay sauce.
Lok Lok is EXTREMELY underrated in Singapore. If you haven’t tried it, honestly why?
So here it is. Here’s a list of Lok Lok spots you can enjoy in Singapore so you don’t have to travel all the way to JB.

There’re three soup bases for you to choose from (chicken/mala/satay) but we highly recommend the satay base. Each base pot will cost you $8.
Best part, each stick goes as low as $1 so you know you’ll be leaving this place with a food coma.

Their Cheesy BBQ Lok Lok ($38) comes in a set which includes 18 sticks of food of your choice. You can also order additional skewered ingredients if you’re still hungry!

There is a minimum order of 7 sticks, and ranges from $1.20 – $3.00 per stick. You can expect plenty of vegetable skewers and even udon wrapped in pork belly!
[caption id="attachment_33932" align="aligncenter" width="819"] Image Credit: Wang BBQ Lok Lok Facebook[/caption]Located in Chomp Chomp Food Centre, you can expect a 45 minute wait as the process to prepare these skewers involves coating the chosen skewers in their special homemade sauce and either grilling these skewers over a charcoal grill, or deep frying them.
However it’s truly worth the wait, so sit around, enjoy a drink or two while Wang BBQ & Grill prepares their special Lok Lok for you.

This Japanese-Inspired French Patisserie Serves Cakes That Are Too Pretty To Eat
If there’s one thing that I can eat for the rest of my life, it would be a good slice of cake.
Now I love cakes as much as, if not more than, the next person. I look forward to my birthday every year because I know I’ll get to indulge in a rich Belgium dark chocolate cake, finished with a silky chocolate glaze.
[caption id="attachment_33875" align="aligncenter" width="450"] GIF Credit: giphy.com[/caption]I thought no other cakes could ever win my heart. Until, I came across a beautiful, magnificent piece of cake.
After a bit more research, it led me to this really quaint and simple patisserie. Flor Patisserie, you’ve won my heart this time round.
Fantastic Cakes And Where To Eat Them

A Noob’s Guide To Buying An Engagement Ring Your Partner Will Love
Proposing to the love of your life can feel like an overwhelming task. You’ve got the girl, you’ve asked her father for her hand in marriage, now it’s time to pick the perfect diamond engagement ring.
What is considered “perfect”? Why do diamonds have different cuts? Princess or cushion shape? Do I spend $500 or $3000 on a ring?
[caption id="attachment_33860" align="aligncenter" width="500"] GIF Credit: giphy.com[/caption]Here’s a guide on how to pick out the perfect engagement ring for the person you’ll spend the rest of your life with.
Sound Steady
Find Your Stone
Here’s a simple tip on finding the perfect stone. Just remember the 4 C’s: Cut, Colour, Clarity, Carat.
1. Cut
Most people will confuse cut for the shape of the ring (emerald, cushion, princess etc). The cut refers to the diamond’s ability to reflect light. The cut of a diamond affects the diamond’s brilliance; this means if it is cut poorly, it will be less luminous.
2. Colour
The colour evaluation of most quality diamonds is based on the absence of colour. The colour scale begins with the letter D – colourless (most expensive) and continues, with increasing presence of colour, to the letter Z.
3. Clarity
Diamond clarity is graded using letter grades, which indicate how many visible flaws can be detected in a stone. The closer it is to being “pure”, the higher the value.
4. Carat
Diamond carat weight is the measurement of how much a diamond weighs. Diamond price increases with carat weight, because larger diamonds are more rare and more desirable.
It’s important to remember that the overall diamond’s value is determined by the 4Cs and not just the carat weight alone.
Find Your Shape
[caption id="attachment_33853" align="aligncenter" width="564"] Image Credit: pinterest.com[/caption]This is a useful guide on the different shapes to think of when picking out the engagement ring. You want to pick out a ring that fits her style and preferences.
If she has no preferences and you have no idea which shape to pick, then you can’t go wrong with the popular round shape or the traditional princess shape.
Or perhaps if you know she’s a huge Beyonce fan, Queen B received a gorgeous 18-carat emerald shape diamond engagement ring.
Needless to say, it was flawless.
[caption id="attachment_33854" align="aligncenter" width="480"] Image Credit: Image Credit: makehappymemories.com[/caption]The prong setting is perhaps the most classic and recognisable setting for most engagement rings.
Of the prong settings, the most common would be the solitaire setting which draws all attention to the stone with little to distract us like other stones or fancy metalwork.
How Much Should I Spend?
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to spend three months’ salary on your engagement ring. There’s nothing romantic about going into a major debt after buying your ring.
[caption id="attachment_33855" align="aligncenter" width="320"] GIF Credit: giphy.com[/caption]Establish a budget before you step into a jewellery store. This helps your jeweller narrow down rings that are within your price range.
The 4Cs will determine the damage done to your bank account. You can either end up with a $800 or $3000 ring. So budget accordingly and never feel obliged to pay for premium.
After all, love cannot buy right?
Where Do I Shop For Rings?
You can browse for ready-made options at a local jewellery store or chain retailer (Tiffany & Co., Lee Hwa, Harry Winston etc.)
You can also design a custom ring with a private jeweller or find the perfect ring online from reliable sources like Blue Nile.
As we all know, nothing beats heading down to the store and physically handling the ring so you know where your money goes to.
Here are several wallet-friendly jewellery stores to find the perfect ring.
1. ORRO
If you’re looking for a diamond ring that won’t cost you over $1000, then ORRO will be your best friend.
ORRO certified diamond simulants are often known as the “World’s Best Diamond Simulants”. A diamond simulant is a stone that looks similar to a real diamond and shares some of its characteristics.

3. The Royals Steakhouse
The Royals franchise started out as a dessert and cake shop along East Coast Road. As business grew, they continued to open restaurants all over the city.
The Royals Steakhouse started business in 2015, in a little shophouse unit along Jalan Pisang serving premium quality Halal steaks from Australia and New Zealand.
In fact, the steak here is so good that they separate the sauces from the meat so you can truly taste the original flavour of the steak.
The Tomahawk steak seems like something from The Flintstones, but this huge slab of steak is perfect for sharing with family.
Priced at $9.50 per 100g, the Tomahawk steak typically weighs between 1.3kg – 1.5kg. The price is such a steal however for a limited time only as it is an introductory offer for their Tomahawk.
[caption id="attachment_33831" align="aligncenter" width="960"] Image Credit: The Royals Steakhouse Facebook[/caption]Just look at the amount of meat!

As the Tomahawk is a special item on the menu, customers are advised to call up beforehand to enquire about stock availability and to make reservations.
Just in case you prefer something that isn’t too crazy, The Prime New Zealand Ribeye 200-220g ($28) is the perfect choice for you.
The ribeye is lightly dabbed with salt before grilling. The exterior is nicely charred while retaining a juicy red centre.
